Chapter 10
“I cannot believe you lied to him,” Jamie said as I sat on my bed watching her pace around. “What you are keeping from him isn’t something you should lie to him about.”
“I was scared to tell him the actual truth. We were just having so much fun yesterday,” I sighed as I shrugged my shoulders repeatedly.
“Kourtni, even your family knows about it. If you could tell them about it, how come you couldn’t tell Teddy?”
“It would crush him if I told him. You just don’t understand what it’s like to be dating someone like him. He isn’t your normal guy here.”
“What do you mean he isn’t your normal guy?” Teddy asked as he walked into my bedroom.
“You had better talk to him about it,” Jamie sighed as she walked out of my room and shut the door behind her.
-Wherever You Are-
“What were you and Jamie talking about? It seemed so interesting. It also seemed to involve me in it. What did I do now?” Teddy asked as he rested comfortably on my bed.
“I lied to you,” I managed to get out as I took a seat at my computer desk.
“What do you mean you lied to me?”
“Maybe this song will ring a bell on what I told a lie about,” I sighed as I started to play Eric Church’s song ‘Two Pink Lines’.
“You lied to me about what happened…didn’t you?”
“Yeah, I kind of did. I really didn’t want to tell you because I was scared of how you would react to it. I figured it would ruin your career as an artist.”
“It doesn’t matter about my career right now. I would prefer if my girlfriend wouldn’t lie to me about something as serious as this.”
“I know, and I am sorry for keeping it from you. Jamie’s the one who convinced me into telling you.”
“Do your parents know?”
“My family knows, and so does yours.”
“How could you tell my family but not tell me? Could you please explain that to me? I do not quite understand you here.”
“I’m not the one who told your family. My mom told your family about it. I was going to tell you and let you be the one to tell your family, but my mom thought different.”
“Obviously…”
“What is wrong with you? You should be happy knowing that you are going to have a little you running around in the world.”
“I didn’t want a little me running around this early. I’m still a teenager,” Teddy said as he got up and walked towards my bedroom door. “I don’t know if I will be back,” he sighed as he walked out of my room.
-Wherever You Are-
“Great going Jamie,” I sighed as I stormed into the living room. “I told him and we all know what happened next. He said he didn’t know if he was going to come back. It’s almost as if he basically broke up with me because of this. He doesn’t realize this isn’t all my fault.”
“I’m sure that isn’t the case,” Jamie shrugged as she acted like it was no big deal.
“Jamie, what am I going to do without him? I do not think I will be able to do anything without him. Do you think he is going to break things off with me?”
“Don’t start asking me all these questions because right now I cannot help you out with any of them. You will just have to wait and see what happens next,” Jamie shrugged as she got off of the couch. “For now, I need to be going. Hunter and I have plans for the afternoon…as you may know. You were supposed to go with us. Are you still coming?”
“Yeah, I’m still coming. I do not know if I can speak the same for Teddy, but I will still come. This is probably going to be one of the last times I’m able to do something fun with you guys.”
-Wherever You Are-
Jamie, Hunter, and I sat in line at the putt-putt place. We were waiting to get to the front so we could pay for our clubs and our game.
“Do we know if Teddy is coming?” Hunter asked as we moved one step closer to the front of the line.
“He isn’t coming,” I simply said as I grabbed some money from inside of my wallet.
“Don’t worry about paying. I’ve got it covered,” Hunter said as he placed forty dollars on the counter.
-Wherever You Are-
“It looks like this is going to be the last hole of the game,” Hunter said as we approached the last hole on the course. “Kourtni, you’re up first again.”
I placed my ball on the green and got in position to hit it in the hole. The whole game I had failed to get a hole in one. This was the last hole, and I was determined to get a hole in one.
“Hole in one,” a voice called out right as my ball went into the hole.
Realizing it wasn’t Jamie or Hunter who had said it, I turned around to see who it was. Teddy was standing behind Jamie and Hunter. What was he doing here?
“Hi,” Teddy said as he walked up to me and stuck his hands into the pockets of his blue jeans.
I didn’t say anything. What was I supposed to say to him?
“Can we go out to the parking lot and talk?” Teddy asked.
“Sure,” I sighed as I handed my golf club off to Jamie.
-Wherever You Are-
“We need to talk,” Teddy sighed as he leaned up against his car.
“Yeah…we do,” I replied as I felt a breeze starting to blow.
“I am really sorry about the way I acted earlier. You were right about me overreacting about it.”
“See? This is the one reason why I wanted to wait and tell you. I really didn’t want to be having this kind of talk with you.”
“I understand why you didn’t want to tell me. After the way I reacted, I probably wouldn’t have wanted to tell me either.”
“It’s okay. There is no need for you to really apologize. I probably would have freaked out if I were you. This kind of news is quite shocking to find out.”
“Well, I am glad you forgave me for that…but I’m not so sure if you are going to forgive me what I am going to say next.”
“Spit it out,” I sighed as I crossed my arms.
“I have got to go back out on the road again to promote the second single and the video for the second single. After that, I don’t know what my plans are going to be.”
“How long are you going to be out doing promotion?”
“I’m going to be out for at least three months.”
“How many shows are they planning on making you do?”
“I don’t know how many. I mean, it’s not like I am doing a show every day…but I cannot make these little surprise trips to come back and see you. They won’t allow me to do that anymore, unless it’s an emergency.”
“That is going to be a big change. It will take me a while to get used to that, I think. What about doctor’s appointments? Will you be able to go to any of those with me?”
“I highly doubt I will be able to go to any these first couple of months. There probably isn’t any possible way they can fit it into my schedule.”
“Guess this means we had better go on and get our goodbyes over with,” I sighed as I hugged Teddy. “I will see you whenever.”
“I love you,” Teddy said as he held my hand.
“I will love you wherever you are…even if you aren’t with me,” I sighed as Teddy let go of my hand and unlocked his car.
This desert wind is burning my face again.
God I’m missing you.
Been running blind under an open sky,
With regrets I was sorting through.
But lesson learned, baby
I made the turn.
Wherever you are,
No matter how far,
Girl I’m gonna find my way to you.
Through rivers of rain,
Over mountains of pain,
Do whatever on earth I gotta do.
I’ll follow the dreams.
I’ll follow my heart.
Girl, I’ve gotta be wherever you are.
So many miles to where we said goodbye,
To the street of shattered dreams.
I’m praying you didn’t start a life
With someone who’s not me.
And if you’re just gone,
Girl I’ll be moving on.
Wherever you are,
No matter how far,
Girl I’m gonna find my way to you.
Through rivers of rain,
Over mountains of pain,
Do whatever on earth I gotta do.
I’ll follow the dreams.
I’ll follow my heart.
Girl, I’ve gotta be wherever you are.
Let the sunrise find me searching.
Let the west wind carry my plea.
Give this changed man one more last chance.
Open your arms to me.
Wherever you are.
Through rivers of rain,
Over mountains of pain,
Do what ever on earth I gotta do.
I’ll follow the dream.
I’ll follow my heart.
Girl I’ve gotta be
Wherever you are,
Wherever you are,
Wherever you are.
