Chapter 8
The next couple of days came and went. There had been no sign of Teddy ever since he brought me home the night we sat and watched movies at his house. I was starting to wonder if he had left town and forgotten to mention it to me.
“Jamie…I’m starting to worry,” I said to Jamie as we walked along the sidewalk with our dogs on their leashes.
“He was just probably in such a rush that he forgot to call you. These things happen to people every now and then,” Jamie shrugged as we passed by Teddy’s house for the second time.
“I guess so. Do you think I should try calling him when we get back to your house?”
“You could always try. He may not answer, but I guess it is worth a try.”
-Wherever You Are-
I picked up my cell phone and began to dial Teddy’s number.
“Hello,” Teddy answered.
“Where have you been?” I asked as I paced around Jamie’s bedroom.
“We had to fly back to New York. It’s a family emergency. I really was going to call you, but I was just too caught up in what’s happening up here.”
“Oh, okay…well, I am sorry about whatever happened in your family. I had better let you go then. You can just call me whenever you have some free time. I just wanted to call and make sure you were okay since I hadn’t heard from you in a while.”
“I’m sorry about not calling you. These past couple of days have just been really crazy for me. I hope you understand.”
“I completely understand. It’s okay. I just wanted to make sure you were still alive and everything. It just worried me to know it had been days since I’d talked to you.”
“I’m glad you understand. Well, I need to be going now. I guess I will talk to you later. Bye.”
“Alright, I’ll talk to you later…bye,” I said as I started to close my phone. “Wait…Teddy, are you still there?”
“Yeah, I am still here.”
“I love you.”
“Woah, I wasn’t expecting to hear that for a while.”
“I wasn’t planning on saying it for a while, but it just felt right to say it then.”
“It was good to hear it though. I needed to hear that. You don’t know how long I have been waiting on you to say that.”
“Well?”
“Well…what?”
“Don’t you have something to say to me?”
“Oh right, I think I have something to say to you.”
“Go ahead and say it, please. I’m listening.”
“I guess I love you too.”
“You guess?”
“I’m just kidding,” Teddy laughed. “I love you too.”
“You had me a little worried there for a minute.”
“Now you know good and well that I love you too. If I didn’t then I probably wouldn’t have asked you back out for the second time.”
“I know. Well, you had better get off this thing. Just please call me whenever you get free time and fill me in on whenever you are going to be back,” I sighed as I sat down at Jamie’s computer desk.
“I will. Bye,” Teddy sighed as he hung up his phone.
-Wherever You Are-
“I am guessing you got up with him,” Jamie said as I walked back into the living room. “So…what did he say? Is he out of town or what?”
“He had to leave town because of a family emergency,” I replied as I sat down on the couch next to Jamie.
“You don’t seem too terribly happy. Did he break up with you? If he broke up with you again then I’m going to wring his little neck! I can’t deal with you having a broken heart again.”
“No, he didn’t break up with me. I did tell him that I loved him though.”
“Did he say it back to you?”
“Of course he said it back to me. If he didn’t love me then he probably would not have asked me back out the second time around…that’s exactly what he said to me.”
“Well, does he know when he is coming back into town?”
“He didn’t mention anything about coming back. All I know is that he is going to call me whenever he finds something out.”
“Okay.”
-Wherever You Are-
“Are you going with Hunter and me to the party tonight?” Jamie asked as we sat in her living room watching MTV.
“I wasn’t really planning on going. Do you want me to go or something?” I asked as I flipped open my cell phone so I could send Teddy a text message.
“It would be nice if you went. It is your ex’s birthday party. He would be surprised to see you there. Don’t you think so?”
“That’s the problem…it’s my ex’s party. It just wouldn’t feel right if I went…especially since Teddy is out of town.”
“I’m sure Teddy wouldn’t care if you went. It’s not like you and Graham are going to hit it off again. Just go and have a good time.”
“Jamie…you don’t know Graham. He knows I’m going out with Teddy, and the minute he sees me at this party he is going to try and break the two of us up. I’m not going to let that happen.”
“I may not know Graham as well as you do, but I’m sure he would try breaking you and Teddy up. He doesn’t seem like the type of person.”
“He doesn’t seem like that to you only because you aren’t the one who went out with him,” I sighed as I got off of the couch and left the room.
-Wherever You Are-
Hours had passed, and I had decided to go with Jamie and Hunter to Graham’s birthday party. Thankfully Graham hadn’t come over to talk to me yet, and I hoped he just stayed where he was.
“Hey Kourtni…how have you been?” Graham said as he snuck up behind me and put his arm over my shoulders. “I haven’t seen you in a long time.”
“I was hoping it would stay that way,” I sighed as I pushed Graham’s arm off of my shoulder.
“Oh come on Kourtni, you know you have missed me a little bit.”
“I haven’t missed you at all.”
“Come on Kourtni…follow me,” Graham said as he took my hand.
As I was being drug off to somewhere I didn’t want to go, I turned back to Jamie and told her to immediately call Teddy to let him know how big of a jerk my ex was being.
-Wherever You Are-
“Get your hands off of me!” I somewhat yelled as Graham pushed me back into a wall.
“Come on Kourtni. Don’t act like this towards me. I know you still love me,” Graham said as he kissed my cheek.
“Woah…you took it too far,” I heard a voice say.
Looking up, I spotted Teddy in the middle of the doorway. How in the world did he get here so soon? He must have had an emergency flight back home after I talked to him on my cell phone at Jamie’s.
“Take your hands off of her before I have to take your hands off of her,” Teddy said as he pushed Graham to the side. “Are you okay?” he asked as he wrapped his arms around me.
“No…you take your hands off of her,” Graham yelled as he fired back and pushed Teddy onto the ground. “She is mine, and you had just better get used to it.”
“You have your facts completely wrong,” I said as I quickly stood in front of Graham before he got the chance to punch Teddy again. “Do not EVER put your hands on him again,” I said as I slapped Graham, grabbed Teddy’s hand, and walked out of the room.
-Wherever You Are-
“What are you doing back so soon?” I asked Teddy as we sat out by my pool. “I wasn’t expecting to see you for another few days or so.”
“We came back early. It looks as if this wasn’t so much of a family emergency,” Teddy shrugged his shoulders as I handed him a pack of ice.
“Put this on your elbow. It should help.”
“Thanks,” Teddy replied with a smile as he put the ice on his elbow.
-Wherever You Are-
“What all happened at the party tonight?” Teddy asked as we walked up the stairs to my bedroom.
“Everything was going great until Graham came up and started talking to me. I knew I shouldn’t have gone to that party. Jamie talked me into going so that she and Hunter wouldn’t be by themselves,” I shrugged.
“I am sorry that you had to go through with that. It must have been odd for you to experience.”
“I’m sorry I had to deal with him too. It was a mistake for me to let Jamie talk me into going to that party. I had a feeling something like that was going to happen, but I still went anyways. I couldn’t afford to loose another best friend.”
“Well, you don’t have to deal with him any longer. After tonight, I don’t think he will ever mess with you again.”
“I hope I don’t have to deal with him any longer. Maybe he’ll just go off to his college in Mississippi and just leave me alone. I could go YEARS without seeing him again.”
“Maybe he will go off to college and just forget about you. I know you would like it if he did.”
-Wherever You Are-
“Teddy…wake up,” I said as I began to shake Teddy. “You have to be getting home.”
“What am I still doing here? What happened?” Teddy asked as he sat up shaking his head. “You weren’t wearing that earlier.”
“And you weren’t in your boxers earlier.”
“Are you saying that…”
“Maybe…I don’t know.”
“Um…can I just call you later tomorrow?” Teddy asked as he put his t-shirt and jeans back on.
“Sure,” I sighed as I sat back in my bed snuggled up under the covers.
What had happened? Did the unthinkable happen? It couldn’t have happened because Teddy and I had never talked about it. For now I just needed to get some more rest, and I’d try to figure out what happened tomorrow.
The next couple of days came and went. There had been no sign of Teddy ever since he brought me home the night we sat and watched movies at his house. I was starting to wonder if he had left town and forgotten to mention it to me.
