haha. it will definitely be up tomorrow. i got home late and don't think i'll be able to write anymore due to the fact i'm really tired.

okay well tomorrow i cant get on, i will be traveling all day. sitting on the plane for over 5 hours is no fun. unless its with your friends or teddy. ahha. or another hott guy.... hmmm.... i need to find one to sit next to....

Chapter 9

Once again, it had been nearly two months since I had last seen Teddy. By now I was used to the fact that he would never be able to stay with me for a long period of time. This was just something that came along with dating someone of his status.

“Are you feeling okay?” Jamie asked as we sat in my living room watching some music videos.

“Yeah, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me,” I shrugged as I got up and headed towards the bathroom.

“Okay.”

“I’m just going to run to the bathroom and then go call Teddy.”

“I will still be sitting here watching TV.”

-Wherever You Are-

Nearly ten minutes had passed since I left the living room and went to the bathroom. I had yet to get a hold of Teddy, who I really needed to talk to.

“Hello,” Teddy finally answered on his cell phone.

“Guess what?” I somewhat excitedly said.

“Woah, you sound very happy. What’s going on?”

“Did you ever think that I could be acting happy on purpose?”

“This kind of happy doesn’t sound like something that could be acted out. Now seriously, tell me what is going on. It’s something I obviously need to know.”

“You remember the last time you were at my house…right?”

“Yeah, I remember. Why are you bringing that up now?”

“It’s not true. The thing we thought had happened, well…it didn’t happen. Last night before I went to sleep I was thinking about it and seemed to remember everything that happened. You woke me up in the middle of the night and said you were really hot, almost sweating. You said you were just going to sleep in your boxers.”

“Well, it’s a good thing you remembered that. I was starting to get a little bit worried. So…what are your plans for tonight?”

“My parents are taking my brother and me out to dinner tonight. It’s my birthday dinner. I wish you could be here.”

“Are you in a room all by yourself?”

“Yeah, I’m in the bathroom…why?”

“Open the door.”

“Okay,” I said confused as I opened the bathroom door.

“Surprise,” Teddy said as my cell phone slipped out of my hands. “Happy birthday,” he said as he gave me a hug.

“What are you doing here? I was not expecting to see you for another week or so.”

“If you don’t want me here then I could always leave. My parents are expecting me to be home right now.”

“No, you don’t have to leave. I was just surprised to see you here. I’m glad you are here. My birthday was going to be miserable without you.”

“I don’t think it would have been miserable. You would have had fun at the dinner with your parents and brother tonight, don’t you think?”

“Sure, it is going to be fun because I get to see what they are getting me…but, it would be more fun if you came with us.”

“Wouldn’t you rather go with just your parents and brother? It would seem a little weird if I just tagged along, don’t you think?”

“No, it wouldn’t be weird at all. Everyone considers you as part of the family anyways. Besides, I want to know what you got me for my birthday. Show me.”

“I left your present down at my house. If I go with you to dinner tonight, then I will give it to you then when everyone else is giving you their gifts.”

“Are you really going to make me wait that long?”

“It won’t be as long as you think it will be. Just take the day off. Today is your birthday, so you should just relax. Don’t do anything all day until you start to get ready for dinner.”

“Are you going to leave me at this house all by myself?”

“You still have Mason.”

“Actually, I don’t have Mason anymore.”

“What do you mean? What happened?”

“Well, we were going for one of our little walks and he managed to get off of his leash. He ran out into the road and got hit by a car.”

“Oh, I’m sorry to hear that. How come you didn’t call and tell me?”

“I was too depressed to call and let you know. You should have SEEN me. It was like a pool of tears around me. I felt so bad for the little guy. I’m going to miss him a lot.”

“You should have called and told me. I would’ve gotten you a new puppy.”

“When it happened, I wasn’t really sure if I wanted another one. He was such a good little puppy.”

“How about we just go hang out in the living room for a little while? I don’t want you to start crying.”

“Okay,” I sighed as I turned the bathroom light off.

“Are you three ready to go to the restaurant?” my mom asked as she walked into the living room where Teddy, my brother, and I sat on the couch watching television.

“I don’t know about these two, but I am ready. I’ve been ready for the past thirty minutes,” my older brother complained as he stood up and began to brush off his khaki pants.

“Oh…stop your complaining,” I said as I stood up and lightly punched my brother in his stomach.

“Can we just please go on and get this over with? I really don’t even want to go,” my brother sighed as we walked out the front door of our house.

“Stop your whining Malcolm,” my mom said as she shut the door behind her. “This is your sister’s birthday. Don’t ruin it for her.”

“My dinner was amazing,” I said with a smile as I placed my napkin back down on the table. “I hope everyone else enjoyed their dinners as well.”

“Now we can start giving you some of your gifts while we wait on dessert,” my grandfather said as he placed a small box on the table. “This is from me and your Nana. We hope you enjoy it.”

I hurried to open this present. My Popie, as I often referred to him, always gave me great birthday presents. Over the years he had spoiled me with a lot of excellent presents that I ALWAYS enjoyed, but I really didn’t know what he could be giving me now. It was my seventeenth birthday, nothing too exciting.

As I removed the top off of the small box, I saw some keys just laying there in the box. Keys? This present definitely wasn’t what I expected, or was it?

“Um…I am a little bit confused,” I said as I took the keys out of the box.

“Outside there is a white 2003 Volkswagen Jetta waiting for you. It has a big pink bow on top,” my Nana told me.

“WHAT?” I almost yelled as the waitress walked back up to our table. “I’ve just got to go see,” I said as I got up and ran for the front door.

“This car is absolutely amazing,” I said as I sat in the driver’s seat of my new car. “I definitely wasn’t expecting it.”

“I think now would be the perfect time to give you my gift,” Teddy said as he opened the door to my mom’s car. “Hang on a minute,” Teddy said as he reached around for something in the backseat.

“Okay,” I replied as I continued to admire my car.

Seconds later I felt a box being placed on my lap. I turned around to find a pretty big box on my lap. It had holes all in it. This was a very weirdly wrapped present.

“Happy birthday,” Teddy said as he took the top off of the box.

“It’s a new puppy,” I said as I took the small, white, little Maltese out of the pink box. “And it even has a cute little blue bow in its hair. By the way, what is it?”

“I don’t think I would put a blue bow in a girl’s hair,” Teddy laughed as he placed the box back inside my mom’s car.

“I don’t know what to name her. He is too cute, but why’d you get me a puppy if you just found out about Mason today?”

“Your mom had called my mom and told her about Mason. My mom ended up telling me a little while after your mom called.”

“Well, thanks a lot.”

“So, do you have any ideas for a name?”

“What about Jake?”

“He is your puppy. You can name him whatever you want.”

“I think I’m going to name him Deson.”

-Wherever You Are-

“So…thanks again for letting me come with you and your family tonight,” Teddy said as we walked up to the front door of my house. “It was a lot of fun getting to meet your grandparents.”

“I am just glad you actually wanted to come. You are the one who made the night very memorable,” I replied with a smile as I stood on the porch looking down at Deson.

“What are your plans for tomorrow? Are you doing anything special?”

“I was just going to go shopping with some of my birthday money tomorrow. Did you want to go and do something? If you were, I don’t mind going with you.”

“No, I was just curious.”

“Hey, I have an idea. How about we get together with Jamie and Hunter for a game of putt-putt golf? It could be fun. What do you say?”

“I say you have a date, and I can already promise you that you are going to get your butt kicked.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure of that. You will be AMAZED by my wonderful skills at putt-putt. If there were a champion of putt-putt, it would be me. That’s just how good I am.”

“We will just have to see about that tomorrow.”

“Oh, believe me. We WILL see about it tomorrow. Good night,” I replied with a smile as I picked Deson up and followed by kissing Teddy on the cheek.

“Sleep tight,” Teddy said with a laugh.

“Don’t let the bed bugs bite,” I laughed back. “Go home and get you some good rest. You are starting to look a little tired. I’m not digging the circles around your eyes dude.”

“I will go home and get my ‘beauty’ sleep if you insist,” Teddy laughed as he walked off towards his car.
