Chapter 10: “Christmas time is so special when you’re kissing me under the mistletoe; exchanging love and gifts, sitting in front of the tree, me holding you, and you holding me.” - *NSYNC ‘In Love on Christmas’.
Christmas was finally here, and I couldn’t have been more excited. Teddy and I had purchased our tree the day after Thanksgiving, and managed to finish decorating it two days after Thanksgiving. I was quite impressed with our decorating skills. It was perfect for our first Christmas tree together.
Speaking of Christmas, I’d been busy running around and shopping for Teddy. I’d looked both in the malls and online to find the PERFECT Christmas gift, and I’m sure Teddy had been doing the same for me. One day he came home from shopping with a bag, and before I could even say hello to him (or greet him with a kiss), he scurried off to one of our guest bedrooms and hid whatever it was in the bag.
Each of us knew where we were hiding one another’s gifts. I’m not sure how this happened, but neither of us had yet to go in and peek at our gifts. Maybe we’d finally gotten out of that stage...nah, I doubt that.
****
Christmas Eve was always one of the busiest days of the year, at least for me it was. This year it wasn’t anything different. It was probably a little busier this year due to the fact Teddy and I were having his family Christmas at our place. His parents, sister, and his aunts, uncles, and cousins were coming over for the night. We were all going to exchange a few gifts. Well, they were going to exchange gifts. I wasn’t really expecting anything from anyone.
“Hey Ted, can you put the rolls in the oven please? I’m finishing up this potato casserole,” I called out, looking back at Teddy.
“Yeah, babe,” he answered cheerfully as I heard him slide the rolls into the oven. “So, what else can I help you with hun?”
“Um, I think I’ve pretty much gotten everything since you’ve already cut the ham and turkey. The beans and stuff are done. All we have left are the rolls and this casserole.”
“What about desserts?”
“Oh, the cakes are in the fridge in the garage. I totally forgot about those! Would you mind getting them while I put this in the oven?”
“No problem,” Teddy smiled as he shuffled out to our garage, only to return seconds later with two cakes in his hand...one red velvet and one chocolate cake. “Did you make these by yourself or did you buy them?”
“I made them both. The chocolate one came from a box, but the red velvet cake is homemade. There’s no other way to make a red velvet cake. The box kind isn’t NEAR as good as the real thing,” I informed Teddy as he leaned over the counter, kissing my cheek softly.
“After tonight you need to take a break for a good week. I’ll cook, clean, do the laundry, and do the rest of the household chores.”
“That won’t be necessary.”
“Kourt, come on...you need a break. For the past week you’ve been preparing for tonight. You’ve worked long and hard to make this the best Christmas ever. My family’s going to love this. Afterwards the least I can do is some of the housework.”
“Well, if you insist, then we’ll do that...or we’ll give it a shot. You haven’t cooked for me that much, and you aren’t the cleanest person...”
“Sh, let’s not start complaining,” Teddy laughed as the doorbell rang. “Ooh, I think that’s my mom, dad, and sister. My aunts, uncles, and cousins will be another little while. I’ll go let them in.”
****
Dinner went well. Everyone was carrying on a full conversation, and Teddy’s family seem to enjoy the meal...especially the desserts. The cakes were the big hit of the night. They even topped the gift exchange, at least for the adults. The children preferred the gift exchange.
“Kourtni, would you mind if I spoke to you in private for a minute?” Teddy’s mom asked me as everyone else was gathering up their things before heading out.
“Sure,” I answered her with a smile as we walked a few steps until we were back in the kitchen.
“I just wanted to thank you for everything tonight. Teddy told me everything you’ve been doing to prepare for tonight, and I just appreciate every bit of effort you’ve put into this. The rest of the family that made it enjoyed it too. They said this was one of the best Christmases we’ve had in a while. Everyone can’t wait until you’re officially a part of the family.”
“Aw, really? You have no idea how much that means to me, to hear you say that. I’ve been working SO hard this week. All I wanted to do was make this a Christmas ya’ll would remember. I just wanted to make a good first impression on the family that I just met,” I shrugged.
“Well, they all loved you,” Teddy’s mom smiled.
“They’re all really nice as well; I love them too,” I smiled back.
“That’s all I needed to say. I guess we better be going now. You and Ted can come over in the morning for Santa’s gifts if you want. We’ll wait for you.”
“We’d love to. Just call us when ya’ll are up and ready. We’ll come right over after we get the call.”
“We’ll make sure you get that phone call.”
“Well, well...I’m glad to see you two are getting along very well,” Teddy snickered as sauntered into the kitchen, wrapping his arms around my waist.
“Not in front of your mom!” I scoffed, looking up at Teddy.
“We’ll leave you two alone,” his mom chuckled as we waved goodbye to the family, watching them get in their cars and drive off on their separate ways.
“So, we’re going to your parents’ house in the morning...after they call us,” I informed Teddy.
“Are we just going to have our Christmas over their?”
“NO! Of course not! Our first Christmas together is going to be just the two of us. We’ll go over to your parents’, watch your sister open her Santa gifts, open gifts from your parents, and then we’ll come back over here and have our...Christmas,” I snickered while giving Teddy a quick kiss on the lips. “Oh, by the way, you’re household chores and duties start tonight. First thing you need to do is tend to those dishes. Love you,” I giggled as I walked off to mine and Teddy’s bedroom.
****
Approximately an hour and a half later I found myself finally getting out of my bubble bath, just as Teddy was walking into the room after doing his evening chores, and the poor boy looked exhausted. Part of me felt bad, but the other part just laughed at him. He was so not used to doing all of the ‘dirty’ work.
“Hey baby, how’d it go?” I asked him.
“What the hell does it look like? I’m exhausted. Mopping the floors is quite the task,” he sighed, throwing himself onto our plush bed.
“Babe, you didn’t have to mop the floor! Aw, now I feel bad. I didn’t specify your list of chores. I’m sorry baby,” I sighed quietly as I joined Teddy on our bed.
“Well, at least our floor is clean for now. It won’t need to be mopped for another good two weeks. I spent the last forty-five minutes mopping it.”
“Aw, you poor thing! I think you deserve a special treat...” I said as I straddled Teddy’s waist, hoping to make him a little excited.
“Not-...not tonight,” he sighed as I rolled off of him and watched as he balled up under the covers, closing his eyes and drifting off into a deep sleep. “Sorry; I still love you.”
“I love you too,” I whispered as I kissed Teddy’s cheek, watching him crack a smile. “Night.”
“Sweet Christmas dreams.”
****
A few short hours later I was woken up by mine and Teddy’s house phone ringing loudly. When I sat up in bed I saw Teddy slapping at his alarm clock. Seeing that made me laugh, the poor boy was clueless. He had no idea it was the phone ringing.
“Babe, it’s the phone,” I giggled in a whisper as I reached for the phone that just so happened to be on my side of the bed.
“Good; I’m going back to sleep,” he scoffed, pulling the covers up over his head, as I answered the phone.
“Okay, we’ll be over in a few minutes,” I told Teddy’s mom before saying goodbye and rolling on top of Teddy. “Hey gorgeous, we’ve got to go to your parents’...remember?”
“Da.mn.”
“I know, I know you wanted to sleep...but the sooner we get there the sooner we leave, and the sooner we’ll get to open our Christmas gifts from one another!”
“Yeah, yeah...don’t remind me,” Teddy sighed as he threw back the covers, crawling out of bed as he slowly drug himself to our bathroom. “Be out in a minute. I’m going to need something to wake me up.”
****
Approximately two hours were spent with me and Teddy at his parents’ house, opening gifts with them and his little sister. After that we returned to our humble abode, where we sat now, preparing to open our gifts from one another.
“Hm, what to open first? What should I open first?” I asked myself aloud while pacing around our living room. “Which do you think babe?”
“I don’t know. All of them are pretty much the same,” Teddy shrugged, showing no enthusiasm whatsoever.
“Okay, let’s go with...this one!” I exclaimed, picking up the biggest box up under our tree. “Ooh, I wonder what this one is,” I giggled as I sat back on the couch, ripping the wrapping paper and tape off of the box...seconds later revealing a white box with ‘Vera Bradley’ on top; Vera Bradley being two of my favorite words from a girls’ shopping guide. “Uh oh, I think I’m going to like this!” I smiled big as I pulled out a large duffel bag in my VB pattern, Raspberry Fizz. “Babyyyyyyy, I love it! I’ve always wanted the large duffel!”
“I’m glad you love it,” he smiled, kissing my forehead, before going over and grabbing the smallest box (of his) from under the tree. “You went with the biggest, so I’m going to go with the smallest.”
“Haha, you’re going to love this!” I laughed as Teddy tore off the wrapping paper, revealing a small black box.
“I wonder what this could be,” he said as he took off the top to reveal the contents of the box. “Oh my word, this is by far the funniest gift I’ve ever gotten!” he exclaimed, waving the ‘V-Card’ I’d made him in the air.
“Just a few months longer and you’ll be able to cash that in,” I snickered. “Make sure you keep it in your wallet...just in case one of us forgets or something.”
“Do I look like the kind of guy that’s going to forget THAT?”
“Well, no, but just in case...”
“I’ll be safe,” Teddy laughed.
We spent the next couple of minutes laughing and opening the rest of our gifts. Teddy was happy with what I’d gotten him, and I was EXTREMELY happy with what he’d gotten me. He’d done a da.mn good job at picking out my Christmas gifts.
Even though I wasn’t at home with my parents and family, I still managed to have one kick ass Christmas...one I’d never forget, ever!

How she meets up with her parents is interesting. I will tell you that they don't show up unannounced, unfortunately. But...the way she reconnects with them is much better than that, I think.

Chapter 11: “Every moment spent with you is a moment I treasure. I don’t wanna close my eyes, don’t wanna fall asleep, ‘cause I’d miss you baby, and I don’t wanna miss a thing.” - Aerosmith ‘I Don’t Want to Miss a Thing’.
New Years was right around the corner, and of course Teddy and I were planning something for the big night. We were actually going to drive up to NYC the night before New Years and get situated in our hotel and await the big ball drop in Times Square.
In the mean time, we sat at our house, packing, and getting ready for our big trip. Teddy was out with the band, playing a local show, and I was at our house watching the news. Apparently my dad, the President, was about to make some big Presidential address.
“Good evening my fellow Americans,” he began. “I would like to start off my address by issuing a public apology to my young teenage daughter, Kourtni. As some of you may have heard the two of us had an altercation of sorts, and she was asked - by me- to leave the White House. It’s been several months since her mother or myself have spoken to our daughter, and we’re using this address to issue out an apology. Not only that, but my wife and I are also encouraging any parent that is in a situation like ours to reach out like we are doing. Kourtni, sweetheart, if you’re watching this I just want you to know mom and dad miss you. We still love you and hope to see you soon.”
Just as I was about to flip the channel the door opened and in walked Teddy. While looking back to greet him with a smile, I hit the power button on the remote. I’d had enough of seeing my dad. Honestly, seeing him made me want to burst into tears.
“Hey babe, how’s it going?” Teddy asked, shutting the door and putting down his guitar case. “Did I just catch you watching a Presidential address by your dad on TV?”
“Yes, but to be honest I wasn’t planning on watching it. Heck, I didn’t even KNOW there was a Presidential address scheduled for tonight. I was just flipping through, came across it, and decided to watch part of it,” I shrugged.
“I think that’s a good thing. You haven’t even seen your dad in months.”
“Seeing him on TV isn’t the same as seeing him in person Ted.”
“I know it isn’t, but you STILL saw him...and to be honest, when was the last time you even saw a picture of your dad?”
“Let’s not talk about that, okay?”
“Would you mind telling me what his address was about? As a citizen of these fine United States of America, I have a right to know.”
“If you insist on knowing, he was issuing a public apology to me. He said that he and mom still love me a lot, and he’s been wondering how I’ve been...blah, blah.”
“I think you should go see them for New Years.”
“NO! I’m not giving up OUR New Years plans to go see them!”
“Kourt, we’ll have other opportunities to go to the City for the big ball drop.”
“But I want to go this year! We’ve already booked a hotel and everything. Plus, I am NOT going to Washington by myself. It’s not happening.”
“Obviously your parents don’t approve of me, so there’s no sense in me going with you.”
“That was then, this is now. You should come along because I mean, after all, we are getting married. My parents have a right to actually sit down and talk with their future son-in-law.”
“So, you’re going?”
“I guess you’ve talked me into it,” I shrugged.
“Good!”
“So, you’re going with me?” I said with a smirk.
“Why not?” Teddy shrugged as I jumped up into his arms. “Gosh, I’ve missed that.”
“But you’ve only been gone for like five hours.”
“I know. That’s the bad part,” he laughed.
“If we’re like this now, I’m going to hate seeing what it’s like when we’re married,” I giggled as Teddy carried me down the hall and to our bedroom, eventually stopping when we arrived at the bathroom. “Um, baby, what are we doing here?”
“Let’s take a bubble bath together.”
“But, we aren’t supposed to...”
“We have bathing suits.”
“Good thinking. I’ll grab mine, change in here, and you can change outside in our room. Is that cool?” I asked as I walked over to our closet and grabbed one of my favorite bikinis from our swimsuit drawer.
“Cool by me,” Teddy shrugged as he shut the closet door and proceeded to change into his swimming trunks.
*****
Before Teddy came into the bathroom, I hopped up on the counter. I sat up straight and crossed my legs, trying to look all prim and proper...and sexy, of course.
Teddy opened the door and immediately began whistling at me. It made me laugh so much...so much that my stomach started hurting, and I had to make myself stop long enough to catch a breath.
“You were too busy looking hot and sexy to start the bath water?” Teddy questioned, standing directly in front of me.
“Sh.t! I’m sorry,” I sighed, just noticing that I had forgotten to start the water. “I feel bad now.”
“It’s not a big deal sweetie pie,” he smiled as he sauntered over to the tub and began turning both the hot and cold knobs. After doing this he turned back and saw I had tears welling up in my eyes. “Baby, don’t cry! It’s not that big of a deal. I was just joking with you. I’m sorry if you took it the wrong way,” he sighed, leaning up against my legs, pressing a kiss to my lips. “I love you.”
“I’m sorry Ted. This whole thing with my dad making that announcement just has me really emotional. I can’t get that off of my brain. And you know me, I’m overly emotional. For those who don’t know me they’d swear I was pregnant,” I cried again as Teddy wiped the remainder of my tears away.
“Come on beautiful, let’s enjoy this bubble bath. I think it’s ready,” Teddy smiled, extending his hand as he helped me down off the counter.
When I was fully submerged in the water and bubbles, I just sat back, eyes closed, and rested my head for a minute. I didn’t move until I felt Teddy slowly submerge himself in all of the bubbles too. Then I looked at him and smiled, even though I was still pretty upset.
I had to do something to get me out of this funk. I didn’t want to be upset for the rest of the night. Teddy and I both had been waiting all day to see each other, and I didn’t want to ruin it by being overly emotional about seeing my dad on TV. And just when I was about to give up on trying to get out of my upset mood a sudden idea hit me. I was going to spice things up a little.
“Hey, what are you doing?” Teddy asked upon noticing my sudden movement.
“Oh, I’m just retying the strings on my top. I think they’re a little too loose,” I answered as I slid the top over my head, tossing it onto the bathroom floor.
“Woahhh, did that really just happen? Did you really just take your top off?”
“I can take the bottoms off if you want...”
“Oh, so kinky...”
“So sexy,” I said with a smirk as I crawled towards Teddy, my chest still fully hidden under the huge amounts of bubbles, finally resting when I had positioned myself in his lap. “Admit it, you like this...me, topless, sitting on you like this.”
“Heck yes I like this.”
“Good,” I giggled, kissing the end of Teddy’s nose. “Now, could you help me out in rinsing these bubbles off?”
“Uhm, I...um...”
“I meant off my back. I’ll handle the front, unless you insist on handling the front,” I smirked.
“I mean, I, uhhh...you can take care of the front.”
“You sure?”
“Yeah, I’m sure...very sure. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to help you out with the front, but don’t you think it’d be a little...weird?”
“Hm, possibly...”
“We only have a few more months of waiting, and then I’ll be helping you every night,” Teddy chuckled, leaning forward and kissing my cheek, whilst taking a wet rag and running it down my back.
“So babe, do you really want to go with me to Washington? You don’t have to go, but I’d like for you to go.”
“I don’t want you to go all by yourself. That and I think I should probably do like you said and sit down with your parents some, give them the chance to get to know me before our wedding.”
“Are you sure? I don’t want you to go unless you want to. I don’t want you to think I’m forcing you into going.”
“No, I need to go. After all, they are fixing to be my second mom and dad. Plus, I have a few questions to ask your dad about his economic recovery plan.”
“You can’t be serious?”
“I’m only joking babe.”
“Good; let’s keep it that way.”
*****
A bubble bath with Teddy was just what I needed. Although it didn’t relieve all of my stress, it relieved a good bit of it, and I was happy with that. Soon after we got out of the tub and got into our PJ’s, I began packing my bag for Washington. Finally, around two in the morning, I finished packing...only to find a sleeping Teddy curled up in our bed.
So much for a goodnight kiss...
