Chapter 7:
“She is the kind of girl that you bring home to mother. She is one of a kind. Man, she is like no other, and I’m so thankful she’s in my life. I don’t want her to ever leave my side.” - Michael Warren “Love Has Found a Way”
Time for me to meet Teddy’s family, mainly his parents, had rolled around. The ride from the show’s venue to his parents’ house was awful, for me at least. I couldn’t stop shaking.
“Are you okay babe?” Teddy asked, wrapping his arm around the back of my neck.
“I’m nervous. I just want your mom and dad to like me,” I sighed. “Do you think my outfit’s too revealing? Do you think it’s too much? Should I change? What about my shoes?”
“Your outfit is just fine, don’t worry about changing a thing. As for being nervous...just be yourself. I’m tired of bringing girls home only to have them act around my parents, show a side of them I’ve never seen before. Just be real.”
“This is my first time meeting a guy’s parents.”
“But didn’t you meet Zach’s?”
“Way before we started dating.”
“Oh, well, I’m sure you’ll do just great with my parents. I know they’re going to like you.”
“I wish I could be as confident as you,” I whispered as the car we were riding in pulled into the driveway of a beautiful, suburban, two story brick home. “We’re here, already? Oh geez...” I worriedly said.
“Stop freaking out Kourt; I promise you’re going to do fine!”
The driver put the car in park, got out, and opened the door for Teddy. Once his feet were firmly planted on the ground, Teddy turned back to the car to help me out. By the time I turned around to grab my purse and shut the door, Teddy’s family had ventured outside, standing on the front steps.
“Teddy!” his little sister screamed in excitement as she ran towards him at full speed, almost knocking him down in an attempted hug.
“Hey sis; it’s good to see you,” Teddy smiled as he hugged his sister, kissing her cheek softly. “Mom, dad!” he said, turning his sights to his parents.
“Teddy, sweetie!” his mom almost cried, throwing her arms around her son’s neck.
No one had acknowledged me yet, and that was only making me more nervous. What if they took one look at me and said I wasn’t right for Teddy?
“It’s nice to have you back at home,” Teddy’s dad said, shaking hands with his son.
“Mom, dad, sis, I’d like you to meet my girlfriend...Kourtni,” he finally introduced me, a small weight lifted off my shoulders. “Kourt, this is my mom, dad, and little sister.”
“Aw, it’s so nice to finally meet you!” his mom said, greeting me with a warm hug. “We’ve heard so much about you!”
“It’s nice to meet all of you too,” I responded, my voice extremely shaky. “Sorry, I’m just a little nervous.”
“No need to be nervous dear; just be yourself,” Teddy’s dad told me.
“You’re pretty,” his sister said, taking hold of my hand.
“Okay, I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but can we please get inside and eat? It’s been a long time since I’ve had a home cooked meal.”
Everyone smiled, and Teddy’s wishes were granted. Everyone went inside and took their designated seats at the kitchen table, me in between Teddy and his mom. Talk about awkward.
***
Turns out meeting Teddy’s family wasn’t as bad as I thought it was. They were very nice, and it seemed as if they liked me. Everyone made me feel like I was part of the family, something I’d always wanted...ever since Teddy and I had first started going out.
Now it was nearing time to go to bed. Teddy’s mom had showed me where I’d be sleeping, and I started getting into my pajamas. Just as I was brushing my teeth, Teddy snuck into the bathroom with me, a huge smile on his face.
“So, you did great tonight. I just talked to both mom and dad. They both REALLY like you. Hell, mom loves you. She said it herself...you’re the one for me,” Teddy confessed, his arms wrapping around my waist, just as I was about to spit my toothpaste in the sink and get some water to rinse my mouth out with.
“Sorry about that,” I giggled as I took a towel and wiped the corners of my mouth. “I’m glad they liked me,” I smiled, turning around to face Teddy.
“There’s something else...”
“Uh oh, good or bad?”
“I would say it’s more like excellent...”
“Okay, tell me! Tell me! TELL ME!” I giggled and screamed.
“I told them about us wanting to get a house together, and they approved! They even said they’d help us out financially if we found one close enough to them.”
“No way? Really! That’s...wow, I don’t know what to say.”
“Tell me you love me.”
“Why don’t I show you?” I snickered, leaning in towards Teddy’s lips, stopping when they were finally pressed together.
“I love you too,” Teddy pulled away from the kiss, just long enough to say that.
“So, when can we go house hunting?”
“I was thinking about going to mom and dad’s realtor in the morning, seeing if she had anything for us to look at tomorrow. Does that work for you?”
“Tomorrow morning works just fine for me,” I smiled. “Hey, what if we find a house tomorrow?”
“Then we’ll go on and make an offer. We don’t want to waste any time, do we?”
“No...of course not.”
We were silent for a few minutes, exchanging kisses here and there, looking into each other’s eyes and smiling.
“Oh my gosh, I just realized tonight’s going to be the first night we’ve slept in separate rooms. It’s going to be so weird not waking up next to you,” I said as I hopped on Teddy’s back while he carried me out into the guest bedroom that I was sleeping in.
“You can sleep in my room. Mom and dad don’t care. They just figured you’d like a little place to yourself.”
“You sure they won’t mind?”
“Not at all,” Teddy said, shaking his head ‘no’ as he carefully sat me down on the bed.
“I don’t really want to move all of my stuff down to your room. Why don’t you just sleep in here?”
“But then I’d have to move all of my stuff in...”
“Teddyyyyyyyyyyy!” I whined.
“You and that whining; you’ve finally figured out my weakness.”
“Your weakness is my crying?”
“Well, let’s see...I always give into your whining.”
“So you’re going to move your stuff?”
“Yeah,” he answered with a sigh.
“Wait, wait! I’ve got an idea!” I exclaimed, clapping my hands like London Tipton does when she says ‘Yay me’.
“What?” Teddy asked with a laugh.
“Why don’t you just leave your things in your room? You can just get up in the morning and go get your clothes out of your room before you take a shower.”
“Hm, I like that,” he smiled, kissing my cheek softly.
“Ted, I really can’t wait for us to get our house. I’m ready for us to grow together, get used to living together. Hell, skip all of that. I’m ready for us to get married and start a family together. I want you and no one else to be the father of my kids.”
“And I want you and no one else to be the mother of my kids. Trust me, all of that will be here before you know it. Your dreams will come true before you know it.”
“My dreams came true the first night I met you.”
And that was that. That one sentence started a series of kisses between Teddy and me. After probably twenty minutes or so, we finally gave it a rest and climbed into bed. You can believe me when I say it didn’t take us long at all to fall asleep.
I sure hoped Teddy was right. I hoped we would get married and start a family soon. All I ever wanted to do was grow up, get married, and start a family with the one I loved. Now that I’d found the one I loved, I only had two more steps to go...get married and start the family.
Life couldn’t get much better than this.

You know, you've got a point there. They really haven't had much drama in their 'relationship'.
I think it's about time some drama is worked into this thing...

Chapter 8:
“We can’t just repeat the same old story like we always do.” Eric Dill ‘Little White Lies’.
A good two months had passed since Teddy had first taken me to meet his parents. Since then we’d found a house in Rochester, not far from his parents’ house, and I’d managed to get a job at the local mall. Unfortunately the job at the mall didn’t quite work out, considering I’m the President’s daughter and everyone who didn’t like my dad verbally attacked me.
“Jamie, I’m going to need for you to come and visit,” I said into my cell phone as I talked to my best friend for the first time in a couple of weeks. “Did I tell you that Ted and I got a house?”
“Nah uh, you did? No way!” she exclaimed.
“Yep, we did...it isn’t too far from his parents’ house though. His parents are helping us out financially too, since we were able to find a place so close by.”
“Aw, that’s so cool! I’m happy for you two. But I have to ask, what’s the status on your relationship?”
“We’re still...dating. I mean, we’ve talked about getting engaged and married and all of that, but we’re still just...dating,” I sighed as I sunk into our living room couch.
“So, do you two sleep in the same bed?”
“JAMIE!” I giggled. “Of course we do.”
“Have you told your parents about this?”
“Jamie, you know the rules. I’m not supposed to speak to them or go back to the White House unless Teddy and I break up, and honestly...that’s not happening, ever.”
“Well, you never know...”
“I’m pretty sure...but anyway, what about you coming to visit? When can you come?”
“Your birthday’s this weekend, right?” Jamie asked as a knock came at our front door.
“Um, yeah...hang on. Someone’s at our door. I’m sure it’s that stupid package Ted’s been waiting on. Can I call you back later?” I asked.
“Sure...bye!” she said, hanging up on me.
I opened the door, expecting to see a man in typical UPS uniform, but instead I saw my best friend...Jamie, and some guy she was with...a guy that looked very familiar.
“JAMIE!” I screamed as I hugged my best friend’s neck. “Have you and Ted been secretly planning this?”
“Yep, ever since he found out about ya’ll getting the house,” she chuckled. “Kourt, this is Davi-...”
“Um, James, I think I know who he is,” I smiled.
“Oh, I forget...your favorite Idol contestant ever, right?”
“It’s nice to meet you,” I smiled, extending my hand towards David. “How odd is it that you’re dating a rockstar? We always joked about it before.”
“Come on, you’re dating one too.”
“A washed up rockstar.”
“Kourtni! Teddy’s not a washed up rockstar.”
“Come on. How many people know who he is, honestly? Most people have heard of David since he just really burst onto the scene. Even when Ted first burst on the scene he wasn’t THAT popular.”
“Is someone bitter?”
“No, I’m not bitter. Why would I be bitter?”
“I’m just checking...”
Before she could finish her sentence Teddy was parking his car and walking up the driveway, a big smile on his face.
“So, you like your surprise?” he smiled.
“Of course!” I smiled back as I hugged him tightly.
“How about I get some dinner started?”
“Wow, he can cook?” Jamie giggled.
“Trust me, I’m just as shocked,” I snickered as I followed Teddy into the kitchen, helping him get out everything he needed to make whatever it is he was planning on making.
***
Teddy ended up fixing some awesome kind of chicken and pasta dish. Everyone really enjoyed it and complimented him on it...especially me.
Being the nice houseguests that they were, Jamie and David offered to do the dishes. Teddy then took the time to pull me aside because he said we needed to talk. Was this the moment he was FINALLY going to propose? I definitely had my fingers crossed...
“So, what’s up babe?” I asked as I sat down, Indian-style, on our bed.
“Look, there’s something I need an honest answer to,” Ted said sternly.
“Okay, shoot!”
“Did you really call me a washed up rockstar?”
“Well, yeah...I mean...
“That hurts my feelings Kourt. So what if I’m not as famous as David, or Bon Jovi, or someone else. I do what I do because I love it; it’s not all about the fame...or even the money.”
“Ted, I didn’t mean it...”
“NO! You meant it or else you wouldn’t have said anything! Don’t even try playing that crap with me. The fact of the matter is that YOU said it, and it hurt my feelings...a lot.”
“Would you give me a d**n minute to explain myself?”
“No, I f.ucking WON’T! You don’t need to explain yourself. I understand it all. If you really want a famous rockstar, go have sex with David for all I care.”
“TEDDY!”
“Happy f.ucking birthday,” he scoffed as he tossed a box onto our bed before turning around and storming out of our bedroom.
As soon as he walked out of the room, I picked the box up and opened it. There inside was a diamond engagement ring...the one thing I’d been waiting for, even though we’d only known each other for like four months.
***
For the next two hours everyone was silent. I hadn’t spoken to Jamie since my fight with Teddy, only because I knew she was the one who told him...obviously. Of course I hadn’t spoken to Teddy either. He was outside with his guitar, playing some music to get himself in a better mood.
After enough time to myself, I finally decided to get up and talk to Teddy. By now I was in my pajamas...sleeping pants and a hoodie, making sure I had the ring box in tow.
“Hey,” I whispered as I opened our front door and found Teddy sitting on the top step, back pressed against the house, strumming along on his guitar. Like I expected he didn’t say anything. “I deserve that,” I sighed as I sat down next to him. “Please don’t get up and go back inside. I really think we need to talk.”
“I don’t have anything to say,” he finally said.
“Alright...then I guess I should talk,” I shrugged. “Look, I want you to have this back,” I said as I took out the ring box and put it next to Teddy. “I don’t deserve this, especially after what I did earlier. Ted, I honestly didn’t mean anything I said. It was said out of frustration. Jamie’s ALWAYS trying to outdo me. She always tries being better than me...ever since we first met. The last thing I expected her to do was show up with last year’s American Idol.”
“But the fact of the matter is you said it, Kourtni, and it hurt...”
“I know it hurt, and I can’t tell you how sorry I am...”
“Look, I know you’re sorry. You don’t have to tell me again. I’m still upset about it though. Saying sorry doesn’t take away the fact that you said it.”
“I know,” I whispered.
“You can keep this,” Teddy said, looking down at the ring box. “It’s a birthday gift from me to you.”
“I’m not sure if I can accept it after what I said.”
“Take it.”
“No.”
“Kourtni...”
“Teddy.”
“You’re taking the ring and that’s that,” Teddy said as he put down his guitar long enough to slide the ring on my finger. “People think I’m crazy for proposing to a girl that I met four months ago, and so what, but I’m in love and nothing’s going to change that...nor is anyone going to stop me. I want you and no one else. You’re the one I’ve waited my whole life for,” he whispers. “So, will you marry me?”
“I’d be dumb as a brick if I told you no,” I smiled as I leaned forward to kiss his cheek.
“Just a suggestion, maybe we should wait a good year before we actually tie the knot...that way you’ll have plenty of time to plan the wedding.”
“I have an even better idea.”
“Oh yeah? What’s that?”
“Let’s get married on your birthday...next year...your twenty-second birthday.”
“If you say so...”
“I’m demanding it,” I smiled as I snuggled up next to Teddy.
“It’s getting late. Why don’t we take this inside and get some shut eye?”
“I was hoping you’d say that.”
