Chapter 5:
A month and a half had passed since the babies had been brought home. A week after Teddy and I brought them home Teddy received a phone call that he’d have to go on the road for a month and a half. We’d practically spent every minute since he left on the phone with one another. It was either him constantly calling to check on the babies or me calling to check on him, see where he was, and see if he was nervous for the show.
Finally after what seemed like the longest wait ever Teddy was on his way back home. I couldn’t wait for him to get back either. The babies had grown so much in the past two months. Ansley had definitely plumped up while Cooper had a head full of hair.
“Okay, we’re going to get all dressed up for daddy. Hopefully neither of you will spit up on your pretty little outfits,” I smiled at the babies before stepping into their closet and finding them both something to wear.
Finally I came across their matching onesies that had the words “Daddy’s Little Rockstars” printed on them. Jamie had come across them one day last week, bought them, and brought them over to me. Since Teddy had been gone Jamie had been spending a lot of time with me...helping out a LOT. If it weren’t for her helping out I probably would’ve killed myself by now.
“Alright men...I think I hear daddy’s car dropping him off. Let’s go greet him at the door,” I said in a whisper as I carefully buttoned the last buttons on the boys’ outfits before picking them up out of the crib and starting for the front door.
I was shocked when I saw Chris walking towards the front door. My first reaction was “Oh crap”...but I had to remain calm. As he rang the doorbell I took deep breaths before opening it.
“Oh, hey Chris; what brings you by?” I questioned.
“Well, I was on my way to my place and figured I’d stop here. You’re uncle told me how to get here. There’s no need for you to be afraid about me being here. I just wanted to come see how the boys were doing,” he informed me.
“Come on in. The babies are doing fine. Ansley is getting fatter by the days, and Cooper seems to be getting more and more hair each day.”
“Dang, they are getting big. So, how’s the crib holding up? Do you like it?”
“The crib is perfect Chris. Thanks again. Ansley spends a lot of time in it. He’s our little sleeper. Cooper, on the other hand, is up almost all day. He’s always crying for something. Ansley just likes to chill. He’s such a laid back baby.”
“That’s good to hear. I’m glad things are working out. How’s Teddy?”
“He’s good, I guess. He’s been on tour for the past two months. It’s been absolute hell for me, but my best friend Jamie has been coming over and helping...so I’ve managed to make it out of these two months alive.”
“Oh, wow, I don’t know how you did it. I’d die if I were you.”
“Yeah, there were times when I thought I was going to die. Thankfully I’m still here. Now, tell me about your life. How’s the road treating you? Do you have any new people in your life that I should know about?”
“The road is great. You know me. I live for being on the road and performing for my fans. As for a new person in my life, there’s not one...hasn’t been one for quite some time now; I’m still looking for the right girl.”
“Aw, I’m sure she’ll come around eventually. Wait a minute!”
“What?”
“I have the most brilliant idea. Hold the babies really quick. I’ve got to make a phone call before I forget!” I said as I handed Chris the babies and dashed off to my bedroom.
*******************************************
“Hello,” Jamie answered.
“Jamie, get over here now. I need you to meet someone. His name is Chris...one of my ex-boyfriends. It’s PERFECTLY okay that you meet him. I don’t care. He’s a sweet guy. Come on...now!” I blurted out.
“Um, alright...give me a few minutes to throw on some decent clothes.”
I giggled as I hung up my phone and ran back into the living room where I found Chris singing to the babies. He must’ve heard me slide on the hardwood floor because he stopped singing whatever it was.
“Be careful,” he laughed as I sat back down on the couch, taking one of the babies from his arm. “I’m assuming you made that important phone call?”
“Yep, and your next date is on her way over here.”
“What? My date? Who?”
“It’s my best friend...Jamie. Chris, I’m telling you. This girl is so beautiful, sweet, and oh my gosh...she’s just amazing.”
“I’m not so sure I should trust my ex-girlfriend with setting me up on a date.”
“Chris, I promise! She’s not bad.”
Five minutes later a knock came at our front door. I yelled come in, so Jamie pushed the door open and made her way to the living room. I introduced her and Chris and from there things seemed to take off. The two seemed to get along great. Right before Chris had to leave he asked Jamie out. Thankfully Jamie said yes.
“Kourtni, I never thought I’d be dating one of your ex-boyfriends. This is so crazy!” Jamie exclaimed. “He seems like a nice guy...definitely different from what you had told me before.”
“Yeah, he has changed an awful lot. I’m glad he’s changed. Now if he could just get a good girl in his life. That’ll probably make him even better,” I smiled as I heard the front door open.
“Guess who’s home?” Teddy called out as a smile crossed my face. “Hey Jamie,” he smiled as he walked into the living room.
“Teddy!” I exclaimed as I gave Teddy a kiss on his cheek.
“Gosh, it’s so good to finally be home.”
“Here...look at the boys,” I said as I grabbed Teddy’s hand and led him in front of the couch. “See, haven’t they grown?”
“Danggg...Cooper has a ton of hair now. At least we know it’ll be a while before he goes bald. As for Ansley, I can see he’s gained some weight. What have the doctors said?”
“They said Ansley is doing good, and Cooper is alright, but he needs to gain a little more weight. He suggested feeding Cooper a little more.”
“That’s good to hear, and mmm...it’s good to see you,” he said wrapping his arms around my waist. “You look amazing. It looks like someone has been working hard to get rid of that baby fat.”
“Babyyyyy...not in front of the company,” I giggled as Teddy kissed me on my cheek.
“If the two of you want a night alone I’ll take the babies. My mom is in for the week. She can help me...that is if you send me their formula and what not,” Jamie spoke up.
Teddy looked at me and an evil smile crossed his face. You could tell what he wanted to do. I obviously wanted to do the same thing. I don’t know how I’m going to repay Jamie for helping me so much.
“Do you mind?” I asked, feeling a little bad on the inside.
“No, I don’t mind at all. I’d love to keep the babies for a night. They’re so sweet and precious. I love them like they were my own kids!”
“Then it’s settled. We’ll even pay you,” Teddy said.
“Don’t worry about it.”
“I’ll get a bag packed. Ted, want to help me?” I asked, looking back at Teddy.
“Sure...I guess,” Teddy shrugged as he followed me into the babies’ room.
*******************************************
With Teddy’s assistance, if you’d even call it that, I was able to get the babies’ bags packed quickly. We hurried back into the living room, each holding two bags, and sat them on the floor, next to our couch. You could tell the two of us were ready to have some alone time.
“Did you walk over here?” I asked Jamie.
“No, I drove...but don’t ask why. I just live like right across the street and two houses down,” Jamie shrugged with a few laughs.
“Ted, why don’t you put the bags in Jamie’s car. I will get their car seat holders out of our car and get them all set up in Jamie’s car.”
“Sounds like you two are in a hurry.”
“Jamie, it’s been months. We’re DYING,” Teddy said before grabbing the bags and heading for the front door.
“I’m sorry James. I’m not meaning to rush you on out of here. It’s just...Teddy and I haven’t had any alone time in months. I’m not saying we’re going to you know what, but still. We need our alone time.”
“Oh, it’s not a big deal to me. I was just kidding around with Teddy. I knew the poor guy was dying. After all you’ve told me he is a declared addict.”
“Yeah...he is,” I giggled. “And it’s all because of me.”
“Gosh, you two are the cutest things ever!” Jamie said as she looked at the twins.
“Aw, for a minute I thought you were talking about me and Teddy...but thanks.”
“Well, you and Ted are cute too...but you already knew that.”
Before I forgot I excused myself and stepped outside to load the babies’ car seat bases into Jamie’s car. Teddy was just shutting her trunk when he spotted me outside. He walked over and helped me get the bases out and put them in the backseat of Jamie’s car. Just as we were finishing up Jamie was walking outside with one baby on each arm.
“I thought I’d speed things up. The two of you deserve some alone time,” she smiled.
“Jamie, thanks again. You don’t know how much this means to the two of us. If you have any problems just call me and let me know. Oh! The instructions for their bottles are taped to the side of the formula containers.”
“I’ll definitely give you a call, but I think I’ll be okay.”
“Let me help you get them in,” Teddy said as he took Ansley’s car seat and walked to the passenger side of Jamie’s car and got him all strapped in.
When both twins were safe and secure in their seats, Jamie came and hugged me goodbye. Teddy and I thanked her once more before she got in her car and backed out of our driveway.
“You, my dear, are mine all mine,” Teddy snickered as he picked me up and carried me back into our house.

Chapter 6:
Jamie hadn’t even been gone five minutes, and Teddy was already halfway undressed. I, on the other hand, was still fully clothed.
“Teddy, I don’t want to do it...not now. I don’t like the feeling of being rushed into having sex,” I told him as he climbed on top of me and kissed my lips ever so softly. “Ted, I’m serious.”
“Then what the hell are we going to do? Without the babies there isn’t a f***ing thing to do!” he screamed.
“JOHN THEODORE!”
“WHAT?”
“Don’t you EVER talk to me like that again!” I screamed back at Teddy as I pushed him off of me and hopped out of our bed, running to who knows where.
“Get your ass back in here!”
“What the hell has gotten into you? You’re acting like a total jackass right now. I want NOTHING to do with you. Get the f*** out of my house,” I continued screaming as I turned around and slapped Teddy right across his face.
“That’s it. I’m gone.”
“Fine!”
*************************
A week had passed since my fight with Teddy. I hadn’t seen or spoken to him. He wouldn’t answer my phone calls or respond to my text messages. I was so worried I called Jamie AND Chris and asked them to come stay with me, mainly so they could watch the babies while I bawled my eyes out on the bathroom floor.
Then a mysterious number showed up on my cell phone.
“Hello,” I answered.
“Is this Kourtni Geiger?” an older woman asked on the other end of the line.
“Yes ma’am, this is Kourtni.”
“I am calling to inform you that your husband, Teddy, has been admitted to the local hospital here in Nashville.”
“What happened?” I asked my voice extremely shaky.
“From what the police told me, he and another man got into an altercation in a bar downtown.”
“Is he alright?”
“The doctor is checking him right now. From looking at him he looks pretty beat up and bruised, but I do not know the extent of his injuries.”
“Oh my gosh...I...I’ll be right down. What room?”
“He’s in room 247.”
“247...got it, thanks.”
I hung up my phone, got up off the floor, and ran into the living room. I was so nervous that I couldn’t cry! Jamie noticed my shaking and she came over and hugged me.
“Kourt, what’s wrong?” she asked.
“Teddy...he’s in the hospital,” I responded.
“Wh-...what happened?”
“The nurse said something about a fight at a bar? I don’t know. She didn’t say much.”
“Oh gosh...I’m sorry to hear about this.”
“I’m going to kill him!”
“Now Kourtni,” Chris started.
“I’m not literally going to kill him, not yet at least. I’ll wait until he’s all healed up.”
“Are you going to go down to the hospital?”
“You can bet your bottom dollar! Can you and Jamie stay here and watch the babies? I’m too angry to take them. I don’t have time to get bags packed either.”
“We don’t mind at all. You just get down to that hospital and check on your husband.”
*************************
When I arrived at the hospital, I didn’t even bother stopping at the desk to let the nurses know I was coming in to visit Teddy. I marched right down to his room, 247, and flung the door open. I found the doctor standing there, clipboard in hand, telling Teddy the extent of his injuries. Teddy noticed I had stormed into the room, and he looked over at me.
“Are you his wife?” the doctor asked, turning to face me.
“Yes,” I quickly responded as I stood with my arms crossed.
“Teddy will be allowed to go home as soon as the nurses come in and unhook all of the tubes and what not. Watch his lip since it’s busted. If you notice any of the stitches coming out you should go to the emergency room and get them fixed. Other than that there’s nothing to watch for.”
“Thanks,” I told the doctor, forcing a smile on my face.
I decided to wait until the doctor was out of the room before I moved closer to Teddy’s bed. More importantly I was waiting until he was out of the room before I started cussing Teddy out. I still couldn’t BELIEVE he had done this.
“I know you’re not happy with me,” Teddy sighed. “You don’t have to say anything. Just, please, give me a ride home.”
“Oh, so you want to come home now?” I scoffed.
“Please, I’m not in the mood for this right now. I have a splitting headache, and I feel like crap. Okay?”
“None of this would’ve happened if you weren’t STUPID! You know what happens when you drink Teddy! You become aggressive. You get into fights!”
“I was pissed off Kourtni. I hadn’t talked to you in weeks. I was starting to believe you were going to leave me.”
“Leave you? The thought NEVER crossed my mind, until now. If you keep doing stupid crap like this then maybe I will leave you...if that’s what you want.”
“You know I don’t want you to leave me. We made a promise to stay together until the end of time. I can’t live without you.”
Our conversation was interrupted by a nurse coming into the room. She walked over to the bedside and began unhooking all sorts of tubes and IVs that were in Teddy’s arm.
“crap,” he said when she snatched the last one out.
“Mr. Geiger, you’re free to go. Take care of yourself,” she said with a smile as she turned back around and headed out of Teddy’s hospital room.
“I don’t know what I’m going to do with you,” I told him as we walked out of the hospital room.
*************************
We arrived back at our house, and I gave Teddy time to explain what had happened to Jamie and Chris. Then I instructed him to go to our room, which he did without hesitation. He knew I was pissed and the slightest thing could make me even more pissed at him.
“What do you want me to do? I’m in the room,” Teddy sighed.
“Just get in bed,” I sighed as I threw my purse and keys on the ground before turning to head towards the kitchen to get Teddy a bag of ice. But I didn’t get very far. Teddy grabbed my arm, and I turned around to face him. “Yeah?”
“I’m sorry...really...I am,” he sighed, looking down at the ground. “The guy insulted me when he said my music sucked. I couldn’t think of anything else.”
“Just forget about it...okay? Lay down and get some rest. I’ll be back with ice for you lip,” I told Teddy as I brushed the hair out of his face.
*************************
“Here’s your ice,” I said upon entering the room, only to find Teddy sitting on our bed with his guitar in hand. “Ted, music’s only going to give you a bigger headache.”
“I couldn’t help it. I’ve been working on this song, and I finally figured out what to write...what lyrics to add,” he told me as I placed the bag of ice on our bedside table.
“Want to play it for me?”
“If you want to hear it; I figured you’d be too pissed at me to want to listen to anything I said.”
“I’d listen to your songs any day.”
“I’m going to play the whole thing, if that’s okay. It means a lot to me.”
“Yeah, go ahead,” I said with a small smile as I sat on our bed in front of Teddy.
The lids of our eyes blinded To the stars outside Staring at the clocks upon the wall She thinks about the bitter words We said tonight Wishing I would be the one to call And
Tell her I’m wrong Tell her it all Tell her I feel just how she feels And tell her to me she’s everything
I’ve let you down Words won’t fix this now But I’ll make it up to you another way I’m sorry I want you to know I won’t let go If the world turns, I know we’ll find a way I’m sorry
Driving the street That leads back to your place I’m praying if I knock you’ll let me in Lights are off, you could be gone Maybe it’s too late I’m contemplating words I want to say
Tell her I’m wrong Tell her it all Tell her I feel just how she feels And tell her to me she’s everything
Teddy took a break from singing and looked up at me. I looked deep in his eyes and could see he was on the verge of tears. Before the tears left the brim of his eye, he got back to playing and singing the new song.
I’ve let you down Words won’t fix this now But I’ll make it up to you another way I’m sorry I want you to know I won’t let go If the world turns, I know we’ll find a way
Tell her I’m wrong Tell her it all Tell her I feel just how she feels Tell her to me she’s everything
I’ve let you down Words won’t fix this now But I’ll make it up to you another way I’m sorry I want you to know I won’t let go If the world turns, I know we’ll find a way I’m sorry
I’ve let you down Words won’t fix this now But I’ll make it up to you another way I’m sorry I want you to know I won’t let go If the world turns, I know we’ll find a way I’m sorry
When he finished playing, we both looked up at the same time. Both of us had tears in our eyes. He reached out to wipe my tears away, and I did the same.
“I’m really sorry for the many f***ed up things I’ve done over the past couple of months and years. I’ve just recently been forced to grow up so fast. To be honest, when we first got married, I was a little scared. I thought maybe we were making a mistake, but it didn’t take me long to realize I was wrong. We weren’t making a mistake. This is right. This is how it’s supposed to be,” Teddy whispered in the midst of tears.
“I love you,” I whispered as I took my hand and tucked some of Teddy’s hair behind his ears. “You, and the babies, mean the world to me. I’d never leave you.”
“Can I kiss you?”
“Baby,” I chuckled, “you don’t have to ask.”
“Just checking,” he said, trying to smile, as he leaned towards me and kissed my cheek lightly. “I’m sorry. I’m in too much pain to kiss you on your lips.”
“It’s okay,” I smiled.
