Chapter 4:
The day for me and my babies to go home had finally arrived. For the past three days I’d been in the hospital with my babies and Teddy. Teddy’s parents had made it several hours after the babies were born, and my Popie stopped by for a few hours. Other than that the past three days had been really quiet.
“Ansley, Coop, we’re going home,” I said excitedly as the nurses pushed me and the babies outside the hospital to mine and Teddy’s car that Teddy was just parking.
“There’s my boys,” Teddy said as he sat their car seats in front of me and helped me put them into their appropriate seats.
Before I knew it I was being helped into the car before Teddy put the babies in. Moving around was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be. Even when I moved an inch pain shot all over my body, causing me to pause whatever I was doing and take deep breaths.
“And we’re off,” Teddy said as he pulled out of the hospital parking lot. “I cannot believe we are taking our little men home. This is crazy.”
“I know. It’s really crazy, but it’s about time. We’ve waited a long time for these two,” I said as I looked at Cooper and Ansley and smiled a big smile.
“Life with these two is going to be interesting. I’m already ready for them to grow up. I wonder if either of them will be into sports. I wonder what kind of girls they will date.”
“They better not date skanky girls.”
“Baby, I think we’ll raise them well enough that they’ll know to steer clear of the skanky girls,” Teddy laughed as the car came to a stop at a red light.
-A Little Bit Longer-
When Teddy pulled up in our driveway, I noticed there were balloons tied to our mailbox. There were signs that said ‘Congratulations’ lining the walkway to the front door. And on the front door there were two big bows, each resembling one of the twins’ births.
“Aw. This is precious! We need to take pictures of all of these decorations. Let’s make sure we get one of us and the boys in front of the door,” I told Teddy as he put the car in park and slowly turned it off.
“I don’t know how we can get that accomplished, but we’ll do our best,” Teddy laughed as he climbed out of the front seat and opened the back door and started to unfasten Ansley’s car seat. “I’m going to go put Ansley by the front door and then come back to get Cooper.”
“You’re not leaving my baby up there by himself! You’re strong. Carry both of them at the same time.”
“Correction...our baby.”
“I’m not getting in an argument with you right now, okay? Just do what I told you to do, got it?”
“I feel like I’m back to the beginning of your pregnancy with you being this bossy,” he scoffed as he slammed the door and made his way to the other door.
Did he really just slam the door in my face? Right now he was being really selfish, and I didn’t appreciate it. Before he opened the door I unfastened Cooper and removed him from the car seat and began to climb out the door that Teddy had just slammed in my face.
“Screw the pictures,” I scoffed as I walked in our house and slammed the front door. “Coop, as much as I love your daddy he can be the biggest ass sometimes.”
Cooper was sleeping at the moment so he probably didn’t hear a thing I said. I was shocked my slamming the door hadn’t woken the poor little guy up.
“What the hell?” Teddy scoffed as he flung the front door open and dropped Ansley’s car seat inside before slamming the door shut.
“TEDDY!” I screamed. “Hold on Coop. We’re going to go put you in your crib,” I said as I quickly walked to the babies’ room and put Cooper in the crib.
When I turned around Teddy was walking into the room with Ansley in his arms. He placed Ansley in the crib next to Cooper. Then he turned his focus to me.
“What the hell was that? You just threw our baby’s car seat on the ground! Teddy, you could’ve hurt him!” I screamed as I pushed Teddy out of my way and attempted to storm out of the room, only to be stopped by Teddy grabbing my arm, spinning me around, and pinning me up against the walls of our hallway.
“You need to calm down. You’re freaking out over nothing!” he yelled at me.
“Get out of my way,” I said as I punched Teddy in his stomach and ran for our bedroom.
-A Little Bit Longer-
“James, it’s supposed to be a happy day, but today has been really sucky. I haven’t spoken to Teddy in three hours. He’s been gone. I don’t know where he’s gone to either. The only people I have to talk to are the babies, and they don’t care about my problems. All they care about is latching onto my boob and getting fed,” I cried into the phone as my best friend, Jamie, got to listen to my venting.
Jamie laughed. “Have you tried calling him?” she asked.
“Yes. I’ve done everything. I’ve called, texted...he won’t answer me. I’m the one making an effort to talk to him when I shouldn’t be. He’s the jerk who started all of this!”
“I don’t know what to tell you Kourt. Maybe he’ll show up later on.”
“He better show up. I can’t do this on my own.”
“I’ll pray he shows up.”
“Thanks James.”
“I’ve got to go and get to work. Let me know if he shows up.”
“Okay...love you,” I said with a smile.
“Love you too Kourt.”
The moment I placed my phone on my bedside dresser a knock came at my door. I hopped off the bed, picked the twins up and made my way to the door. I struggled to open the door so I told whoever it was to just come on in. I was shocked when Teddy walked through the door.
“Why’d you knock? You live here,” I questioned.
“I lost my key,” he said with a shrug of his shoulders.
“Where have you been? I’ve tried calling and texting you.”
“I went for a walk...a long walk in the park. I thought about everything that has happened so far today. The old me would have run out and bought you something nice to try and make up for what I’d done, but I decided coming back and talking to you would be more valuable. So, can you put the babies down and let us talk?”
“I’m going to need your help. Can you grab one of them?”
“Sure,” Teddy said as he grabbed Ansley and started for the boys’ room.
“Ted, you had me freaking out. I was bawling. For a little while I thought you had left me.”
“I’m not that idiotic,” he laughed.
After putting the twins down in their crib, we made our way back to our bedroom. Teddy was first to sit on our bed and pat the space next to him. I sat next to him and he put his arms around my waist.
“I’m sorry about earlier. I was just overly emotional. Having children is new to me. It’s changed both of us so much. I didn’t mean to drop Ansley’s car seat, and I’m sorry for slamming the car door in your face. You don’t have to apologize, but I won’t hate you if you do,” Teddy told me.
“I’m going to apologize because I feel the need to. I slammed the front door of the house in your face, kind of. Trust me I did that out of anger. You had worked me up, so I just did it,” I said as Teddy kissed me on my cheek. “On a brighter note, I cannot believe we’re parents!”
“I cannot believe we’re parents either! But I’m glad I’m here with you. Kourt, you are going to be the best mother imaginable. I’m thankful you are the mother to my boys. I appreciate every single thing you do, whether I tell you I appreciate it or not.”
“Aw, Ted, it means so much to hear you say that. I’m lucky my boys have a daddy like you. You’re going to be the goofy and fun dad...a dad that I wish I had.”
“Sometimes I feel like I’m your goofy and fun dad,” he laughed.
“You are so bad!” I said as I playfully punched him in his chest.
“Ouch, baby, that hurts.”
“If you’re lucky that won’t be the only thing that hurts you tonight.”
“Kourtni!”
“I’m KIDDING! There’s no way in hell we’ll be able to do anything tonight. We’ll be up and down with the boys all night,” I told Teddy as I heard one of the boys crying.
“Speaking of the boys,” Teddy sighed.
“They probably need a diaper change. I fed both of them about an hour and a half ago.”
“Yep, sounds like it’s about time for that diaper change,” he chuckled as we both hopped of the bed and started for the boys’ room.
I was glad Teddy came back and decided we needed to talk. Talking with him about our problems earlier in the day had made me feel a lot better. It made me feel like we were back to square one, leaving the hospital as proud parents. And as I looked at Teddy while he changed Ansley and Cooper’s diapers I couldn’t help but smile. He was the perfect father. I couldn’t ask for a better dad for our two little boys.

He's cute...and has a girlfriend. But like, in class, he sits a few rows in front of me, and today he looked back at me a few times. He SO recognized me at the game. Haha.
