Chapter 33
The week that Teddy was gone was almost over, and I had only talked to him once since he left. I was pretty proud of myself that I didn’t call him every second of every single day… even if that’s what I really wanted to do. I knew he was spending time with his family and I didn’t want to take away from that. Plus I didn’t want him to feel burdened by me… so I figured it was best to let him have his fun.
You really don’t realize how much you miss someone until you actually have to spend time apart. I was always used to him being right next door if I really needed him, but now he was thousands of miles away and I had to admit that I really missed him.
To keep myself busy when I was bored, I had been playing around with the tune Teddy had me play for our song that day before he left… geez that seems like it happened so long ago. I had figured out enough of it that the song was about three minutes long now. I had added a few of my own quirks to it, but it was still basically the same as when Teddy played it.
I was stuck on lyrics though… but that’s what Teddy was amazing at. I knew he had something in his head, but when he said he was thinking about numbers, I was thoroughly confused. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what he shows me when he gets back… which is officially two days from now.
I’d been spending a lot of time with Zealand, because we hadn’t gotten to have much girl time in awhile. She was always doing something with Michael and I was usually doing something with Teddy. We always said we’d never let guys stop us from spending time together, but we were starting to let that happen, and we were determined to put a stop to it as soon as possible.
We had gone to see a couple movies and we had gone shopping a couple times. We had also decided we were both going to try something new this week… something we’d never done before. I decided to put a couple streaks of red color in my hair, because I’d always wanted to, but never had the guts to do it. Zealand decided to get her ears pierced, because she didn’t have them done and we both figured it was about time she did it.
We were sitting in my room hanging out today. We had been having so much fun this week and I didn’t want it to end. I was also starting to worry about what Teddy would think of what I’d done while he was gone… since I hadn’t told him about it yet.
“Z, I don’t know what Teddy’s gonna think about my hair. I’m a little nervous to see his reaction.”
“Oh come on Jess, it’s not like you’ll have it forever… and I think it’s totally cute. It’s not like you changed your hair color to bleach blonde or something, which would not look good on you, I must say.”
“But I don’t want him to not like it and then go back to not wanting to be seen with me or something.”
“You are seriously too paranoid sometimes… just let things happen. Teddy’s changed… I thought you of all people would realize that. He loves it when people see you two together. And let’s get one thing straight… he may be your boyfriend, but he doesn’t have a say in everything you do. Now if you were married… then it might be a different story,” she added with a laugh.
“And that’s not happening… for a long time,” I said, laughing as well.
“Plus I know he’s gonna love it,” she said, winking.
“Alright… if you think he’ll like it then I’m gonna trust you… but if he doesn’t, you’re in trouble.”
“Me? You’re the one that decided to do it… with no persuading from me whatsoever.”
“Oh really… none at all? I’m pretty sure you were physically pushing me into the salon,” I smiled.
“None at all… that’s my story and I’m sticking to it,” she laughed.
“So not to get all serious and sentimental, but I’m really glad we’ve been able to hang out this past week… I’ve missed hanging out, just the two of us.”
“Yeah, it definitely doesn’t stop here though… boyfriends or not… we’re hanging out all the time. Plus… school’s gonna be starting soon and we’ll see each other every day again.”
“True… how much time do we have left before school starts anyway? Like two weeks or something?”
“I think it’s about two weeks, yeah… gosh these past months have just flown by haven’t they?”
“They have gone by quite fast… wait, that means you and Michael have been together for like, two months now right?”
“Yep, two months… and it doesn’t seem like that long at all. He’s so adorable, but I’m sure you don’t wanna hear me gush about him… because then I’d have to hear about your ‘adorable boyfriend,’ as well,” she said, making quote signs in the air with her fingers.
“Okay, don’t ever do that again,” I laughed. “And of course you’d have to hear about him.”
“Yeah, I realized how weird I just looked about a second too late,” she laughed.
Just then, her phone rang.
“Oh, it’s Michael… I need to take this. Maybe you should give Ted a call then too,” she said cheerfully.
“I think I’ll just let him be… I don’t want to bother him.”
“I’m sure he’d want to hear from you,” she said as she answered her phone. “Hey babe, what’s up?” she asked, mouthing ‘call him’ to me while Michael was talking.
“Fine,” I said as I went to pick up my phone and call Teddy.
“Ayerplane,” he said when he answered.
“Oh Tedster, how is life in the land of vacation?” I asked, grinning.
“You just think you’re so clever aren’t you?” he asked. “I know you’re sitting there smiling like you just made the joke of the century.”
“So what if I am? I like to feel clever every once in awhile.”
“Okay, I’ll give you that… so did you need something?”
“Yeah, you… I needed to talk to you, I mean.”
“Yeah, I’m sure that’s what you meant. I know I’ve been missing being able to hold your hand… and the hugs… and of course the kisses.”
“Whatever, you didn’t miss me that much… you’ve been having too much fun, right? Because you promised you’d have fun.”
“Oh I’ve been having a blast… plane rides are excellent for not only sleeping, but also writing.”
“Speaking of… I’ve been working on our song… I thought you’d be impressed. Although, I’m sure you’ve been working on it too… always working,” I laughed.
“Yeah I have been working on it… I think I have most of the lyrics done… but I can’t wait to hear what you’ve come up with… let’s just hope they mesh well.”
I sighed, “Yeah I do too… otherwise it’s gonna sound horrible.”
“What’s wrong love?” he asked sweetly. “You just sighed and now you sound really depressed.”
“I just really miss you, that’s all. But you’ll be home soon and it’ll all be awesome once again.”
“Yep… and then school starts up again and we’ll be together there too… well, for the most part… unless we don’t have any classes together, which would be bad because we’ve always had them together, so I don’t see why they’d stop…”
“Teddy… even though I’m positive your rambling is more adorable than mine, I really should let you go and get back to your family fun.”
“Yeah, I should probably get back to them… but you keep smiling because I’ll see you in two days and then we’ll finish our song… sound like a plan?”
“Absolutely… have fun these last couple of days… and don’t get into too much trouble,” I added with a smile.
“Yeah, I’ll work on that,” he said, and I could tell he was grinning as well.
“Later Tedster,” I said, making an incredibly fake kissing sound into the phone.
He started laughing, “Right back at ya, Ayerplane.”
“I’ll see ya in a few days.”
“Alright, bye,” he said as we both hung up.
Zealand was still talking to Michael, and would be for the next five minutes. I busied myself by picking up my guitar and strumming a few notes of the song Ted and I had been working on. It seemed like lately that was just about the only thing I could think about… and Zealand could tell too. She started to wrap things up with Michael while I started humming along to the notes I was playing. I really hope the song turns out great.
When she got off the phone, Zealand and I started talking about the song and what kind of lyrics Teddy might have come up with.
“Well I can’t wait to hear it when it’s finished. Promise Michael and I get to be the first to hear you two sing it together?”
“Who said we’re both singing it? I was thinking it would just be Teddy.”
“Right… whatever, you know he’s gonna want you to sing with him.”
“Maybe… but until he asks, I’m assuming it’s all his.”
“Or maybe… you could suggest it to him…” she added with a smirk.
Maybe that wasn’t such a bad idea…
