So shopping alone isn't the most fun thing in the world, but when you finally have your own apartment, there's really no one to go with you.
I sighed as I stared at a bag of grapes, wondering if I should actually buy them or not, and my phone began to ring.
"Hello?"
"Hey! It's Alyssa!" She said cheerfully and I rolled my eyes. "So I was thinking that maybe we could hang out tonight."
I smirked as I placed the bag of grapes in my cart and kept walking. "Sorry, I'm busy."
"Doing what? Babysitting?"
"Yeah, actually, I promised my best friend I'd babysit her daughter while her and her husband went out to eat. They promised to repay me with tickets to John Mayer."
"Oh, I love him!" She squealed.
"Sorry, you can't go, I already promised someone else."
"Oh." I winced at her tone, realizing I had been a total biotch.
"I really am sorry." I tried to make up for my attitude. "Maybe we can do something some other time?"
She was silent for a minute. "Um.. yeah. Sure... Ok."
I hung up with her and finished buying a few more items before heading home, where Tallie and her gang were waiting for me.
"Sorry guys," I grinned as I grabbed my bags from my car. "There was a huge line at the grocery store."
They laughed at me. "No, no. It's cool," Jerome said as he followed me inside with Lorelei. He handed me an envelope with two tickets inside. "Promise me a shirt... Autograph, bottle of sweat, anything."
I laughed at him. He was just as obsessed with him as I was. "I'll see what I can do."
He nodded and gave me a quick hug. "Thanks so much for this."
"You know, I really like having two super-rich best friends." I joked. "How do you do it?"
"I'm a manager for my Dad's company," He said rolling his eyes. "And well, the pay isn't too bad. I just have to deal with business owner who don't know how to manage their own money."
I laughed at him as he stepped outside the door and waved once more to Lorelei and I before finally leaving.
"So what would you like to do, sweet cheeks?" I asked her and she gave me a long, drawn out yawn. "So Mommy and Daddy won't let you nap during the day, eh? Well guess what! With me, you may sleep all you want, because I love to sleep!"
She cooed at me before sticking her finger clumsily into her mouth to suck on it. "Nitey nite, Lolo."
I called her Lolo because, let's face it, it was way easier to say than Lorelei.
----------
Watching TV with a four six-month-old was rather fun, seeing as how she didn't know what they were saying, which meant I could watch anything I wanted, until she started crying.
But crying would be an understatement. She was full on screaming at the tops of her lungs, and nothing I did helped. She wasn't hungry, she didn't need changing... She just laid there with her arms and legs flailing around like mad.
Just when I thought she might settle down, there was a knock on my door, and she became even more upset.
I threw it open as I held her in my arms in an attempt to make her settle down. "Can I help you?" I snapped at whoever was at the door; I didn't even pay attention to who it was before I opened the door.
"Bailey?" I heard a quiet voice say, and I looked up in shock. "You live here?"
I nodded as Lorelei continued to fuss. I was on the verge of tears, and I knew Ted could see that.
"Here," he said as he took her from me. "Let me try."
He laid her down on the couch... Lovely old couches I had found in Gran's attic. They had been covered in plastic and after putting a couple slip covers over them, they were practically brand new.
He wrapped her up tighter in her blanket, which she had managed to come loose from and then held her closer to him. I was surprised that she actually settled down after that.
"Th.. Thanks," I whispered. "So you live here too?"
He shook his head as he handed her back to me. "No, uh.. Bonnie does. Sometimes I stay over. I have to be at work really early in the morning, so the baby was kind of..."
"Disturbing your beauty rest?" I smirked and he nodded. "You know... I'm surprised you even talked to me, let alone help me."
His eyes held a cold feeling that I couldn't shake, no matter how many times I tried to remember the warmth they once held.
"Well, ya know, I wanted to get some sleep." His answer was short and sweet.
"Yeah." I said awkwardly as I sat down. "So um... I was wondering..."
"I don't have anything to say, Bailey," he said. "I'll see you around."
"Teddy!" I called after him, confidently. But my confidence was shattered when he shut the door behind him and didn't turn around.
I was so stuck in this rut of the past and my thinking that he actually still had feelings for me, and it was all happening so fast. I know that if he was truly happy I couldn't ask him to just turn around and run back to me with open arms, (not that there had ever really been something major there to begin with), but he could at least let me talk.
----------
I showed up at his house, completely unannounced, which I new probably wouldn't go over so well. I could tell that he was laughing with someone on the other side of that door, because as soon as he saw me, his smile faded.
"You don't have to talk, ok?" I asked. "I just want to tell you something. It's been so hard for me to get over this fear I have of being rejected, and I'm afraid that if I were to share my feelings, I would be laughed at and mocked."
I sighed as he stood there and looked at me like I was supposed to get to the point really fast. "So why didn't you stay until I woke up in Colorado? Willa told me you were there and she said you were there to surprise me, so it just doesn't make sense that you didn't stay."
"No what doesn't make sense is why you never bothered to call me and invite me out there like you did Tallie and Jerome. What makes no sense is that you actually left. You left, Bailey. It's obvious you have no reason to be here. I'll always be second to you."
I shook my head and looked at him confused. "I... I no. You're not second to me, Ted. I mean, not that that matters now. In fact, I have tickets to a concert, and I was kind of hoping you'd go with me."
"Who is it?"
"John Mayer." I told him and he smiled as I held the tickets for him to see.
"Ok. I'll go." He finally agreed.
"Thanks." I smiled. "It's tomorrow night at seven. I'll pick you up?"
He nodded. "Works for me. You might want to get out of here, though, Bonnie's on her way over. She gets jealous pretty easy."
I rolled my eyes. "Of course she does. I'll see you later."
"Bye Bai."
How could it be that everything was solved so quick? I mean, I'm sure there was some sort of emotional bruise still lying there waiting to be poked once again, but everything had been solved so fast. His tone was still short, and I knew there was still some things that needed to be resolved, but I was actually feeling like it would work out.
Oh man! What was I going to wear?
