Chapter 12
Everyone knew about my "secret admirer" by the next day. My friends would not stop teasing me about it.
"So did you get any love letters today?" Holly asked batting her eyes.
"Oh shush" I said pushing her away.
We were out shopping for dresses to wear to a party Lisa was throwing. Just as we were rounding the corner I bumped into someone. As soon as I looked up I wished I was invisible.
"Hey Brandon!" Holly smirked. Running into the guy I had blown off a while ago was akward to say the least. Holly nudged my arm. "Hi" I said weakly.
"What are you two doing here?" "Just shopping" I replied. Well what the heck does anyone come to the mall to do I thought. Before i could say another word Holly chimed in again.
"Lisa is having a party tomorrow night and we are looking for dresses." She was quiet for a moment. Then she did exactly what I was hoping she wouldn't.
"You should come too, it's at seven." I flashed her the evil eye. "Sounds great!" he said over excitedly. He gave me one more smile before turning to leave.
I pinched Holly's arm as we walked into another store. "OOwww!" she yelped. "What was that for?" "You know exactly what that was for! I cannot believe you invited him" I said annoyed.
"What is the big deal? He's a nice guy and a good friend."
"I know that, but it is so weird since we went out before and I ended up dumping him."
She rolled he eyes. "Don't sweat it. You won't even have to talk to him."
"Whatever, lets just find some dresses."
The next evening while I was getting ready for the party my phone rang.
"Hey Ted."
"Hey! I'm assuming you are going to Lisa's party tonight?" Whenever I heard his voice I got butterflies inside.
"Yeah, will you be there?"
"Yep, me and Casey should be on our way in about an hour."
"See you then" I said smiling.
Now I went back to the mirror to do a double check. My dark brown hair fell into waves beneath me shoulders and my brown eyes sparkled with the little bit of glitter I had applied. I turned this way and that way in the mirror making sure everything was in place and headed out the door.
As I pulled up to Lisa's house I could already hear music blasting. I stepped out in my knee-length, red thingytail dress and velvet peep-toe heels. I slowly opened the door and was almost deafened by all the noise.
"You're here!" Lisa shouted while giving me a hug.
"There are drinks and appetizers in the kitchen" she said pointing.
Once again on my way to the kitchen I ran into someone. I was never usually this clumsy. But this time when I looked up I was relieved to see Teddy looking down smiling at me.
"Hi" we both said at the same time.
"How has the party been so far?" I asked.
"Ummm..pretty okay. A lot of dancing mostly. And we both know I don't dance." he replied laughing. Oh I did miss that laugh of his.
"Yeah, I'm not much into it either. That is why I'm headed straight for the food." We walked toward the tray of appetizers together.
"I forgot to mention how lovely you look." "Oh this old dress? It is just something I had lying around."
"Not the dress, YOU." I started to blush so I turned my head pretending to look for a fork on the counter.
"Where is Casey?" I asked once I found composure.
"Oh, she's in the bathroom." He sounded disappointed.
Before I could ask anything more a hand grabbed my shoulder. I turned around quickly to see Brandon standing behind me.
"Hey Nat" he said with a huge smile. "Hi my name is Brandon" he said extending his hand to Ted. "Teddy" he replied.
"I was wondering if I could talk to you for a bit."
"Well I was sort of in the middle of a conversation right here" I remarked rudely.
"That is all right, I should look for Casey anyway" Teddy said uneasy.
"I'll talk to you later then" I saighed as I walked off with Brandon.
He led me out to the back patio.
"Well what did you want to talk about?"
"I wanted to talk about us." I gave him a very confused look. "Us?"
"Yeah, I was thinking you could give me another try."
"I would really just prefer us to stay friends." He kept pleading with me to go out with him, but I kept refusing. I was getting really upset and started to walk away. As I did he grabbed me and kissed me.
"Get off of me!" I screamed right before slapping him. I stormed back into the house and right out the front door. I couldn't be in the same house as him anymore.
The next day Lisa called me very early.
"Nat!"
"Lisa? Is something wrong?" Her voice sounded urgent.
"Did you go all the way with Brandon last night?" My jaw just about hit the floor.
"WHAT?!" "Yeah he is telling everyone you did."
"Oh my gosh! That little snake! That is not at all what happened!"
I began telling her the TRUE story. "I didn't think you would do anything like that. I just thought you should know."
After hanging up with her I sat on the edge of my bed sobbing. Now everyone was going to think I was easy. But I truly wasn't worried about everyone. I was only concerned with what Teddy was going to think.
