Chapter 6
Teddy and I stepped out on the back porch and found that Kaylie and Jesse were nowhere to be seen. I glanced down at the chairs they were sitting in and noticed that Kaylie’s jacket was still on the chair.
“They aren’t in the chairs…but Kaylie’s jacket is right there,” I said as I pointed to her jacket.
“Look down at the pool,” Teddy said as he looked out over the porch at the pool. “I think we have a soon-to-be new couple on our hands. What do you think?”
“There is no making out in my pool,” I said as I started down the steps but stopped to turn back around to tell Teddy something. “Correction…there’s no making out unless it’s you and me. Now, I’m going to stop this madness.”
“Stop it right there,” Teddy laughed as he walked after me.
“That is so disgusting though Teddy. I don’t want to be watching it all night. Besides, I know Kaylie. She’ll be blabbing about how good of a kisser he is and everything. I just don’t want to put up with it.”
“Don’t you think Kaylie feels the same way when I kiss you in front of her?”
“Ted, you never kiss me in front of her! Heck…you hardly ever kiss me anymore. I’m starting to wonder about you,” I sighed as I started down the stairs once again.
-Just So You Know- -Teddy’s POV-
After Kourtni managed to get Jesse and Kaylie out of the pool, she came back up on the porch and went straight inside. She wouldn’t speak to me. I knew she was upset, but I decided to let her have her peace for a little while. Besides, I was still trying to figure out what she meant when she said she is starting to wonder about me.
“Man…I like her,” Jesse said as we sat in Kourtni’s entertainment/game room and played video games.
“Dude…you just got out of a long relationship and you’re already putting the moves on some other girl. That isn’t right,” I sighed as I shook my head.
“How would you know about relationships? It doesn’t look like yours and Kourtni’s is going to well either.”
“I don’t want to talk about her right now.”
“You can talk to me about it…if you’re having any problems, that is. Are you two on the verge of breaking up or something?”
“Yes…no…I don’t really know where we stand right now. Right before she went down to get you two out of the pool she said she had begun to wonder about me. I am still trying to figure out what she meant by that. Do you know what she meant by that?”
“Maybe she thinks you are hiding something from her. I don’t know.”
“But, I’m not hiding anything from her…I don’t think.”
“I don’t know then. Why don’t you ask her what she meant by that?”
“I figured it would be best if I left her alone since she seems ticked off at me.”
“The best thing to do is go and ask her yourself, especially if it’s bothering you. You don’t want to go the rest of your life without knowing what she meant…especially if it’s something that could break the two of you up. Come on…let’s go check on the girls and see how those brownies are coming.”
“Alright,” I sighed as I stood up and smoothed out the small wrinkles in my jeans.
-Just So You Know-
After what seemed like hours, Jesse and Teddy decided to make their presence known again. They walked into the kitchen and both leaned up against the counters. Seconds after they had entered the room, Jesse proceeded to clear his throat and then punch Teddy in his shoulder.
“Dude!” Teddy said as he stood up straight. “What was that for?”
“Dude…I thought there was something you needed to be doing. That’s what it was for,” Jesse replied.
“Sometimes I wish you weren’t here,” Teddy sighed as he shook his head and continued to look down at the floor. “Kourtni, can we go outside and talk?”
“Sure,” I replied as I put down the plate of brownies and followed Teddy out to the back porch.
-Just So You Know-
“So…what do we need to talk about?” I asked as I carefully bent down and sat in one of the lounge chairs.
“I just have a few questions about things that Jesse brought to my attention,” Teddy replied.
“Okay…ask away.”
“What did you mean earlier when you said you had started to wonder about me? Have I done something wrong that I don’t know about? Please tell me if that’s the case.”
“I’m just wondering about you. Lately you just haven’t been letting me know that you love me or whatever. You hardly ever give me a little kiss on the cheek anymore. I’m starting to wonder if maybe you’re losing interest in me or worst case seeing someone else. I mean, I’m sorry that I’m not what I used to be. That’s what happens when…well, you know. You’re the one who got us into this situation.”
“Hey…you cannot put all of the blame on me! Besides, you know I would never cheat on you. I wouldn’t cheat on anyone. If I was losing interest in you then I would just dump you, not go out and cheat on you. That’s wrong.”
“I just want to know if you still love me or not. I am beginning to believe that you don’t anymore. Please don’t put me through this right now.”
“I do love you!”
“Then how come I don’t feel like you love me? How come I feel like you and the rest of the world hates me?”
“I don’t know!”
“I’m just going to go back inside before we start fighting or before I start to cry,” I said as I attempted to stand up. “Um…could you help me, please? I seem to be having a little bit of trouble.”
“Sure. Just give me your hand,” Teddy said as he extended his hand out towards me.
“Thanks.”
“No problem,” Teddy said as he bent over and kissed my stomach. “I love you little guy…and your mommy too.”
-Just So You Know-
“It’s nice to see the two of you again,” Jesse said with a mouth full of brownies.
“Jesse…that’s gross. Chew up your food before you decide to say something. Didn’t your mom teach you ANY manners when you were growing up?” I said as I picked out a brownie and put it on a paper towel.
“Teddy…your cell phone rang a minute ago. I didn’t answer it because I didn’t know if I should or not. You may want to go see who it was and if they left a message,” Kaylie said.
“Okay…thanks,” Teddy said as he headed towards the kitchen.
-Just So You Know- -Teddy’s POV-
I looked at my missed calls and mom was the last person that had called my phone. She normally left messages, but I didn’t feel like calling my voicemail. Instead I just pressed the speed dial button that would call straight to her cell phone.
“Hello,” my mom answered after the second or third ring.
“Mom…it’s Teddy. What did you want? I didn’t listen to your message either,” I replied quickly before my mom could get another word in.
“I was just wanting to know where you were and who you were around.”
“I’m at Kourtni’s house with Kourtni, her best friend, and Jesse. Why? Do I need to come home for something?”
“No, you don’t need to come home for anything. I just needed to inform you that we will be leaving early in the morning for Los Angeles. You have to go out there and do some kind of interview with Ryan Seacrest or something.”
“Is that all that I have to do?”
“Not exactly.”
“Well, aren’t you going to tell me what else I have to do?”
“You have to do some shows in California, Washington, Nevada, Texas, Oklahoma, and some other states.”
“How long am I going to be gone?”
“You are going to be gone for a good month and a half, maybe even longer. Management is trying to get you some more radio interviews and small venue shows.”
“MOM! There is no way I can leave Kourtni for more than a month. You know I have no luck whatsoever! If I leave now, she’ll probably end up having the baby like tomorrow! I cannot risk that mom. Can’t you tell them to cancel all of the shows?”
“I don’t think I can do that Teddy. It’s too late now. You have got to go out and do these shows. It’s your JOB. This is what you are paid to do.”
“But mom, I don’t want to leave Kourtni! I don’t.”
“I know you don’t want to leave sweetie, but you have to. Right now it is the only way you can provide for the baby.”
“Can you please call them and cancel the shows? You have been able to do it before. Why can’t you do it now?”
“Would you rather go out and do these shows now or leave right after the baby is born? It is your pick.”
“Thanks for making me feel bad mom. You do a good job of that,” I sighed as I quickly hung up my phone as Kourtni was walking in the room.
-Just So You Know-
Mine and Teddy’s ‘dinner’ with Kaylie and Jesse had finally come to an end. Jesse ended up going to stay the night at Kaylie’s place. Teddy and I knew that was going to happen from the beginning. Meanwhile, I was trying to figure out who Teddy was talking to earlier when I walked into the kitchen as he quickly hung up his phone.
“So…who were you talking to earlier?” I asked as we sat on the living room couch, waiting for my mom to get back from work.
“My mom,” Teddy replied as the front door opened. “It sounds like your mom is home. I had better be going now.”
“Woah, why are you in such a quick hurry to get home? Is there something going on that I don’t know about?”
“I’m leaving tomorrow to start yet another string of tour dates. I figure the sooner I get home the sooner I get to see you again.”
“Okay. You had better be getting home then. I guess I will talk to you whenever you decide to call or email me,” I said as I gave Teddy a goodbye kiss.
“You act like we’re never going to get to see each other again.”
“I just didn’t want you to leave…not this soon.”
“I didn’t plan on leaving this soon, but I have too. I promise I won’t be gone for as long as you think I will be gone for. If I have ANY free time you know I will fly back down here and visit you.”
“I know you will,” I nodded as the tears began to slowly roll down the side of my face.
“Please…don’t cry.”
“I can’t help it.”
“I love you,” Teddy sighed as he opened the front door and headed down the steps.
“Bye,” I cried as Teddy got into his car, cranked it up, and slowly began to back out of my driveway.
