Chapter 5
As I opened the door, I saw a big vase of roses covering up a face. It was obviously Teddy on the other side of the roses. I wasn’t that stupid. His mom doesn’t care how long he stays on his phone since she isn’t the one paying the bill.
“You aren’t good at lying,” I laughed as Teddy sat the roses down on the porch and hugged me.
“I try,” Teddy laughed as he kissed my cheek. “You have to admit you are surprised to see me right now. Well, I have the next two days off. Then I have to go up to Virginia to do a couple of shows around there.”
“Where were you coming from? I thought you were in New York all this time?”
“No, I’ve been in Florida and Georgia these past couple of weeks. I meant to tell you that my schedule had suddenly been changed. You could’ve come with us after all.”
“I wish I could’ve gone, but it probably would have pained me too much if I would have gone though. My feet are beginning to swell up a little.”
“Is Jesse still here?”
“No. He left while I was on the phone with you. He had to get back to his hotel so he could meet his girlfriend or something like that. While you are here, do you want to give me a foot massage? You know you want to.”
“It wouldn’t hurt if I did. Let’s go sit down in your living room and watch some movies I brought with me.”
“Okay,” I smiled as I walked towards the living room.
-Just So You Know-
An hour had passed, and Teddy and I were still seated in my living room watching some movies that he had brought with him. We were currently watching ‘The Notebook’ and were planning on watching ‘Dude, Where’s My Car’ next.
“Are you crying?” Teddy asked as he looked over at me.
“No…of course not,” I said as I wiped the tears off of my face. “Why are you asking? Were you crying?”
“Do you honestly think this movie made me cry?”
“Hey, it made me cry! And you’re almost as big of a baby as I am when it comes to watching movies!”
“I am not! I’ve never cried in a movie before.”
“JOHN THEO…”
“Don’t even start with the name calling Kourtni F….”
“Hey, let’s not go there! I don’t like my middle name, okay? Speaking of middle names…I kind of wanted to change the baby’s name to something different. I want it to have Addison and Theodore in it, but I also like the name James.”
“Well…what about the name Addison Theodore James?”
“HEY, that’s a good one! I love it.”
“I’m sure that’s the name you were thinking of. You just want to give me some credit when it comes to this baby, huh?”
“No. I was thinking something like James Addison Theodore, something that didn’t go well.”
“How many more weeks are there until the baby’s due?”
“Ted, it’s more than weeks. It’s more like three or four MONTHS before this baby gets here. I don’t know exactly how long, but I sure as heck hope it’s soon. I’m tired of my feet swelling up. Speaking of that…what happened to my foot massage?”
“I was hoping you forgot about it,” Teddy joked as I turned around and put my feet up on the couch.
“I want my foot massage! Look at my feet! They are HUGE.”
“Okay. Geez…” Teddy laughed as he began to massage my feet.
-Just So You Know-
It was late in the afternoon, and I was up on my feet cooking supper while Teddy was still sleeping on the living room couch. He had fallen asleep during the middle of ‘A Walk to Remember’.
Out of nowhere the house phone began to ring, so I picked it up.
“Hello,” I answered.
“What are you doing?” Kaylie asked.
“Well, I’m getting ready to fix supper for Teddy and me. What about you?”
“What’s Teddy doing? Shouldn’t he be up helping you?”
“He fell asleep when we were watching ‘A Walk to Remember’,” I laughed. “If you don’t have any plans, would you like to come over for dinner?”
“What are you cooking?”
“I’m leaning towards steak and baked potatoes with some rolls. For dessert we’ll probably end up eating ice cream or something.”
“Do you have enough if I come over?”
“Of course I have enough for you Kaylie! I always cook extra food because someone extra ends up showing up whenever I cook something like steak.”
“Cool,” Kaylie said as my cell phone started to ring. “What time should I be there?”
“You can come whenever…now if you want. I’ve got to go. My cell is starting to ring and I have no idea who it is.”
“Alright…I’ll head over there shortly.”
“Bye,” I said as I quickly hung up the house phone and grabbed my cell phone before the ringer woke Teddy up.
Seconds later I heard Teddy yell ‘crap’ after he apparently stumbled over something.
“Hello,” I answered my cell phone as I noticed Teddy walking towards the kitchen.
“I hate to bother you,” Jesse said on the other end of the phone as I heard a vehicle door slam.
“I can tell you are a little upset about something. What is it? You aren’t bothering me either. I have nothing better to do.”
“Katie and I just broke up. Is it okay if I crash at your place for the night? She locked me out of my hotel room. Mom tried to get me another one, but the place is booked…and I’m not staying in a room with my mom.”
“Isn’t Katie leaving today?”
“No. She is leaving early tomorrow morning, I think…but then again I don’t really want to talk about her right now. Can I crash at your place or not? I can stop and eat supper before I get there if I need to.”
“Yeah, you can crash here for as long as you need to. Don’t worry about stopping to get you something for supper; I’m already in the process of getting supper fixed. Teddy and I would be glad to have you. My friend Kaylie’s coming too.”
“Okay…I should be there in a few minutes.”
“Alright…bye,” I said as I hung up my phone.
“Who was that?” Teddy asked as he leaned up against the kitchen counter.
“That was Jesse. He’s going to crash here for the night. He and Katie broke up and he doesn’t have a room in the hotel. I’ve got to pay him back for all that he’s done for the baby,” I shrugged as I handed Teddy the pan of steaks. “Since you are up you can cook those out back on the grill.”
“I don’t know how to cook steaks.”
“Are you that stupid?” I joked. “I act like a blonde sometimes, but I still know how to cook steaks. It isn’t that hard.”
“Do I look that stupid? I hope you know I was just joking. Of course I know how to cook steaks. It isn’t the complicated, like you said.”
“Get to it then,” I laughed as I pushed Teddy out of the kitchen right as the doorbell rang. “That should be Kaylie. I’ll get it,” I said as I headed towards the front door.
-Just So You Know-
“I am here,” Kaylie laughed as I opened the door and hugged her. “Thanks for inviting me over,” she said as she stepped inside and took her jacket off.
“No problem,” I replied as I shut the door behind her. “You aren’t the only guest that we are having tonight.”
“Who else is coming?”
“Jesse is coming. He’s going to crash at my place for the night.”
“I thought he was staying at some hotel.”
“He was until he and Katie broke up.”
“Oh,” Kaylie said as I noticed a taxi pulling up in the driveway.
“Okay, it looks like Jesse is here. You can go on out back and see how Teddy’s doing with those steaks. I should be out there shortly.”
-Just So You Know-
“Kaylie…this is Jesse. Jesse…this is Kaylie,” I said as Jesse and I stepped onto the back porch.
“Nice to meet you,” Jesse smiled as he and Kaylie shook hands.
“Same here,” Kaylie replied.
“Why don’t the two of you stay out here and get to know each other better?” Teddy said. “Kourtni, let’s go inside and fix the potatoes. You two keep an eye on the steaks…okay?”
“Sure…whatever,” Jesse laughed as Teddy and I walked back into the house.
-Just So You Know-
“They’ve been out there talking for a good little while. I hope the steaks aren’t burnt to a crisp,” Teddy laughed as he took the baked potatoes out of the oven. “What’s next?”
“That is all we have to cook inside. I’ve got the rolls in the toaster oven,” I replied as I took the rolls out of the toaster oven.
“Should we go out there and check on them and the steaks?”
“I think it’d be safer if you went out there. I need to be setting the table anyways.”
“Okay. Wait…I have a question, and this is total off the subject of what we were talking about.”
“What is it?”
“When exactly is the baby due? I don’t think you ever got around to telling me that.”
“He is due on September 14th…only days before your birthday. Wouldn’t it be neat if he was actually born on your birthday?”
“It would be cool. Then he would definitely be my twin,” Teddy smiled as he left the kitchen.
