Chapter 2:“
Let our eyes say words we’ll leave unspoken.” - Teddy Geiger “Our Eyes”
Waking up earlier this morning wasn’t something I wanted to do. I had barely gotten any sleep last night due to the fact that I was thinking about Teddy...and our date tonight. I’m sure most people in America were thinking no one in my family was able to sleep because of the whole inauguration day, but not me. My mind was on other important things.
After who knows how long, the inauguration was over. Dad and mom had some luncheon type thing to go to, but I decided to get settled into my room...in THE WHITE HOUSE! I was glad dad and mom weren’t there because I was running up and down the halls like a little kid. Living in this place for four years was going to be SO much fun!
As I was in the middle of unpacking a box, my cell phone began ringing. When I looked at the screen, I saw Jamie’s name.
“Hello,” I cheerfully picked up the phone.
“Wow, someone’s happy. You looked beautiful at the inauguration,” she told me.
“Oh, that...thanks.”
“You don’t sound happy about that though.”
“No, I don’t. Well, I’m happy, but my mind’s on other things.”
“Other things? Please tell me the other things mean Teddy.”
“How did you know?”
“I don’t know. I just guessed.”
“He’s coming over tonight while mom and dad are at the many inaugural balls. Last night, after you left, we started arguing a bit. Then I had to beg him to give me a ride back to the Blair House. I asked him what he wanted, and before he answered I offered a free tour of The White House and a place to stay in the house...whenever he was in town.”
“So, what’d you give him?”
“Um, Jamie...he’s coming over tonight. Al l the guy wanted was a date,” I smiled, even though Jamie couldn’t see me.
“Aw, so, you’re going on a date with Teddy Geiger?”
“Yeah...did I tell you he almost kissed me last night?”
“Whaaaaaa? How did I MISS that?”
“I was just rambling on and on, and he just kissed me. I think he was going to kiss me last night, but my dad walked out and kind of...ruined the moment.”
“Oh my gosh! You’re so lucky! Your dad’s the President, and Teddy Geiger almost kissed you. What more could you ask for?”
“A really nice and amazing boyfriend...haven’t had one of those in four years.”
“Maybe Teddy’s the one!”
“I don’t know,” I sighed. “Jamie, I don’t know what to wear!”
“If it’s just inside the White House, just wear something casual. Maybe a cute top and some dress pants.”
“You told me to wear something casual, but you’re suggesting dress pants?”
“I don’t know!” she laughed. “Pick out something cute. I KNOW you’ve got something in that big closet of yours!”
“You’re right...I’ve got something. Listen, I better get off this phone. I’m going to shower and re-do my hair and makeup before he gets here, but before I do any of that I HAVE to pick out my outfit. I’ll call you after he leaves...to let you know how things went.”
“Good! I can’t wait. BYE!” Jamie exclaimed, quickly hanging up her phone.
I tossed my cell phone onto my bed before sauntering over to my new, and HUGE, closet. When I pushed open the door, my eyes went straight to this one outfit. It was a gray and black top and charcoal gray pants with the perfect pumps, earrings, and ring to match. The longer I stood there and looked at the articles of clothing, the dressier I thought it looked, but I didn’t care. It was cute, and I like how it looked on me.
“This will do,” I smiled as I pulled the clothes off the rack and lay them out on my bed. “Off to take yet another shower,” I said to myself as I grabbed the appropriate under garments and headed into my bathroom.
********
Twenty minutes later I got out of the shower and started getting ready. Just as I was finishing up my hair and makeup, there was a knock on my door. I wrapped up in a towel and shuffled to the door, only to find one of my dad’s assistants on the other side.
“Mr. Geiger is here to see you,” she informed me.
“Tell him I’ll be down in just a few minutes. I just have to put the rest of my clothes on,” I smiled as I shut the door, dropped my towel, and ran to put my clothes on. “Let’s have one last look at things,” I said as I turned around and looked at myself in the mirror. “I hope he likes this...”
I took a deep breath before opening the door and starting down the hall. I could hear Teddy’s voice as he talked to my dad’s assistant. He even said something about being nervous, which was a shock to me. You wouldn’t think he’d be nervous.
“Thanks Becca, but I can take it from here,” I said with a smile upon entering the room.
Teddy was quick to hop up out of the chair he was sitting in and kiss my cheek. I took one good look at him and immediately felt overdressed.
“I didn’t know tonight was such a fancy occasion,” Teddy laughed.
“Well, I had no idea what to wear. If it’s too much I can go change.”
“Oh no, don’t change...I like it. You look amazing, just like you did this morning.”
“You watched?”
“Only to see you.”
********
Two and a half hours later, and I found myself waking up in Teddy’s arms. My moving around caused Teddy to wake up, and I laughed at the sight of his hair...what a bed head.
“That movie must’ve been really boring to make you fall asleep,” I giggled as I sat up straight and stretched. “I feel like us falling asleep kind of ruined everything. I feel like we haven’t gotten to talk.”
“I’ve got all the time in the world to spend talking to you. My schedule is completely empty. Performing at the part for you was the first performance I’ve done in months,” Teddy informed me.
“Before we move any further, I’m changing out of this outfit. I’m ready to throw on a t-shirt and Soffe shorts. It’s been days since I’ve been able to wear my favorite kind of clothes,” I told Teddy as I hopped up off the couch and walked to my bedroom.
About halfway down the hall, I stopped and turned around. I could still see Teddy seated on the couch. He was such a gentleman, waiting like that, but in all honesty I didn’t care if he came.
“Are you coming or what?” I called out to him.
“I was just going to wait here until you were dressed,” he was quick to answer.
“Thanks for being considerate of me. I really appreciate it, but I don’t care if you come in my room. I have a bathroom you know,” I giggled as I took off my heels and ran back to where Teddy was seated. “Come on...you’re coming with me. You never know, I may need some help.”
“Help?” Teddy asked, a loud gulp emerging from his mouth.
“You alright there, buddy?”
“Yeah...I’m good.”
“Good.”
********
Five minutes later, and I was already feeling twenty times better. I loved being in my t-shirt and Soffe shorts. They were so comfortable, and I was definitely one who liked to be comfortable all the time.
“So, what now?” I asked Teddy upon walking out of my bathroom.
“Whatever you want to do is fine with me,” he answered.
“Bowling! I keep forgetting I have a bowling alley in my house now! Come on!” I exclaimed as I grabbed Teddy’s hand and ran out of the room, letting go of Teddy’s hand long enough to open the doors that we had to go through.
It wasn’t long before we were in the bowling alley. At first I wasn’t sure of where it was, but then I bumped into one of the maids and asked. She pointed me right to it. My mouth dropped when we walked in. I still couldn’t get over the fact that there was a bowling alley in MY house. Heck, it was still hard for me to believe I was living in The White House.
“Loser has to kiss the winner,” Teddy spoke up.
“Hm...a betting man, are we?” I asked as I picked up the only pink bowling ball.
“What? Are you scared you’re going to lose?”
“No...of course not. I’m just asking.”
“Typically I’m not, but when it comes to stuff like this I am.”
“You just want a kiss. You don’t care how you get it...right?” I asked as I sat the bowling ball down and went to punch in mine and Teddy’s name.
“That’s not completely-,” he started.
“Don’t lie to me!”
“It’s not completely true...honest.”
“You know something...you’re a pretty bad liar,” I giggled as I stood back up just as Teddy was putting his ball down. “Look at me.”
“Bossy...aren’t we?” Teddy chuckled as he looked up at me.
For a few seconds I stood there and stared at Teddy. He was really on my case tonight, but at the same time I was on his case too. I guess you could say this was our way of flirting with one another.
Then it happened. I pulled Teddy in close to me and kissed his lips softly. This was one of those kisses that felt right. My eyes were closed, and when I opened mine I noticed Teddy was just opening his too. That meant he felt some kind of connection too.
“Wow...I liked that, a lot,” Teddy smiled. “You definitely know how to take charge and control, don’t you?”
“Oh, definitely,” I answered. “Now...let’s get this game started. Do you want to make a different bet or what?”
“Let’s keep the bet how it is.”
“Good idea.”
********
A few minutes later, and our game of bowling had come to an end. Teddy ended up kicking I disagree.
“So, Mr. Winner...are you ready to claim your prize?” I laughed as I sauntered over to Teddy’s side.
“If you’re ready to give it to me,” he smiled back while pulling me in close to him.
I was leaning in, ready to plant one on him, and then I heard someone yelling my name...
dad...AGAIN! Boy, did he know how to ruin the moment or what?
“Sh.t! I didn’t tell him you were coming. Um, crap...I don’t know what to do,” I said nervously. “Hide in that closet...maybe he won’t go looking in there,” I told Teddy as I pointed to the closet that was in the bowling alley...a closet where uniforms and bags were stored.
“Don’t forget me...okay?”
“I won’t,” I said as I began pushing Teddy towards the closet.
********
“Hi daddy,” I smiled as I walked out of the bowling alley.
“What were you doing in there, sweetie?” my dad asked as he turned around and looked back at me.
“Oh, I was just practicing my bowling skills. Now I’m ready to take on whoever wants to challenge me.”
Boy did I SUCK at telling lies. Luckily for me, my dad bought every single one of my little white lies.
“That’s nice,” he smiled. “I was just stopping in to see how you were doing. Mom and I are fixing to head off to yet another ball. We should be done in a few hours.”
“Okay. Have fun!” I said as I waved goodbye to my dad before running back into the bowling alley. “Teddy!”
“Here I am,” Teddy laughed as he popped out of the closet, knocking his head on the top of the door frame.
“I think I have something to give you.”
I walked towards Teddy, and he walked towards me. We stopped and held hands. When I looked up at Teddy, he began singing one of his song...
Our Eyes. Before I could give him his “prize”, he shocked me when he leaned in for a kiss.
This boy really knew how to make me happy, and I was looking forward to getting to know him better.
