Yeah Her parents could invite her since they probably don't know they aren't speaking to each other and then they would be forced to bump into each other! LOL ...but its your story, so I will be excited to read whatever you write! But I'm always open to suggestions. Ha...I just realized that is SO a line in a Billy Currington song. LOL!

Chapter 12:
“This is real, this is me. I’m exactly where I’m supposed to be now.” - Demi Lovato ‘This is Me’ (Acoustic).
Of course I got absolutely NO sleep the night before I was supposed to be going back to Washington, D.C. Teddy, on the other hand, slept like a little baby...didn’t wake up even once. I was slightly jealous.
“So, you ready babe?” Teddy asked, poking his head in our bathroom.
“Ready as I’ll ever be,” I shrugged with a sigh as I stuffed my straightener into my suitcase. “Do you have everything else loaded in the car?”
“Yep, everything’s all packed and ready to do. All we’re waiting on is you,” he smiled.
“I’m glad someone’s excited.”
“Babe, you don’t need to be upset or nervous or anything. Everything’s going to be just fine,” Teddy said, kissing my forehead gently. “I’ll be there with you too, so that’ll make it even better.”
“Ted, I haven’t spoken to my family in gosh, I don’t know, almost a YEAR! And to top it all off, I’m marrying someone they didn’t even want me seeing at first. Remember? They didn’t want me going on tour with you, which basically meant they didn’t want me seeing you at all. Yeah, don’t forget,” I was stopped midsentence by Teddy’s lips crashing down onto mine.
“I get the point sweetheart,” he giggled. “Now get your stuff and let’s get on the road. We have a long drive ahead of us.”
“Coming honey,” I giggled back at Teddy as he picked up my suitcase and carried it out to the car. “I’m grabbing my purse and keys so I can lock the door, and then I’ll be headed out. Just wait for me in the car.”
“Will do,” Teddy nodded as I went into the living room to grab my purse and keys.
*****
Hours quickly passed, and Teddy and I found ourselves pulling up to the White House. The place hadn’t changed a bit since the last time I’d been here, but then again it really hadn’t changed in several years...way before I ever moved in.
“I can’t do this Ted,” I said as Teddy and I stood outside our car, looking towards the open doors.
“You CAN do this baby,” Teddy whispered softly in my ear as I turned around to face the car, only to have Teddy wrap his arms around my waist. “Hey, your dad and mom are walking outside now. We should go greet them so they wouldn’t have to walk all the way out here.”
“If you say so,” I sighed, mumbling a few thoughts under my breath, as Teddy and I started towards the doors where my mom and dad were now standing right outside of them.
“Kourtni, sweetie,” my mom said as she ran up and gave me a big hug.
“Mom,” I whispered as my gaze turned to my father. “Dad,” I sighed, looking away.
“My baby girl,” he said softly as he wrapped his arms around me in the tightest of tight hugs. “Oh how I’ve missed hugging you like this these past couple of months. I appreciate you coming back to visit mom and me.”
“Yeah...thank Teddy because he’s the one that talked me into it. If it weren’t for him I probably wouldn’t have come,” I was quick to tell my dad.
“Teddy, thank you,” my dad said, looking Teddy dead in the eye.
“It was my pleasure, sir,” Teddy said with a surprising smile on his face.
“Why don’t you two come on inside and grab a bite to eat? You must be hungry after that car ride from...” my mom began but stopped because she didn’t know exactly where we’d come from.
“Rochester...New York,” I finished her sentence.
“Oh, wow...yes...that’s quite the ride. Come on,” my mom said as she took my hand, pulling me from Teddy’s grip, and led me down the halls of the White House.
“Teddy, son, can we have a talk...a man-to-man talk? That’ll allow the girls some catching up time,” I overheard my dad saying to Teddy.
“Sure,” Teddy answered, his voice a little shaky.
*****
Two hours later, and I still wasn’t pleased about being back in D.C. Sure, my mom and I had a nice, long talk about mine and Teddy’s relationship, and she apologized for my dad’s reactions (as well as her own), but I still hadn’t forgiven them...not fully at least. She’s not the one that needs to be apologizing. It’s dad. He’s the one that caused this riff in the family.
“Kourtni, sweetie...it’s dinner time. Are you and Teddy ready?” my mom asked as she knocked on my bedroom door.
“Almost,” I sighed as I brushed out the few wrinkles that were in my pants.
“Oh, I meant to tell you, we’re having another guest at dinner. We hope you don’t mind,” mom continued.
“No, I don’t mind. Ted doesn’t either.”
“Okay, well, I’ll see you in a few.”
“Okay, see you then mom.”
“What was that about?” Teddy asked, walking out of the bathroom and straightening his tie. “Is there something wrong?”
“No, nothing’s wrong. She was just coming to tell us it was time for dinner...and to tell us we were having another guest at dinner,” I sighed as I smoothed out my dress pants while standing in front of my full length mirror.
“Don’t you think we’re a little too dressed up?”
“I guarantee my dad’s going to be wearing a suit. The least you and I could do is dress it up a little...you wear nice pants, a button up, and a tie...and me wearing some nice pants and a nice dressy top. Plus, my mom was all decked out.”
“I’m wondering if some major political figure is going to be joining us at dinner.”
“Like who? The Vice President?”
“That’s a possibility.”
“Come on, it’s probably someone from my family or something.”
“We’ll see,” Teddy smiled as he opened my bedroom door, stepping back and allowing me to walk out ahead of him. “After you, beautiful.”
*****
When Teddy and I rounded the corner my eyes immediately scanned the room for our dinner guest. To my surprise I found my old ‘friend’ Jamie sitting next to David.
“I cannot believe them!” I whispered as Teddy pulled my chair out for me.
“We figured we’d invite Jamie for dinner because I’m sure it’s been a while since you’ve seen her too,” my dad cheerfully said as Teddy took his seat next to me.
“You two look very nice, such a cute couple!” my mom exclaimed.
Stop lying! I couldn’t believe my mom was telling such a lie in front of all of these people. I know here and dad weren’t 100% supportive of mine and Teddy’s relationship. She was just putting on a front for Jamie and David, two people I’d hoped to never EVER see again.
“Jamie, David...nice seeing you two again,” Teddy says, forcing a smile on his face.
“It’s nice to see you again too,” Jamie said, followed by David.
“Kourtni, are you not going to speak?” my mom questioned, looking me dead in the eye.
“Teddy, you can tell my mom I’m not speaking to anyone when she’s in the room,” I whispered in Teddy’s ear.
“See, there’s just one problem here. A few weeks ago Jamie and David came to visit Kourtni and me at our house, and well, let’s just say it didn’t end well. Kourt and Jamie got into a huge argument and are really mad at each other,” Teddy spoke up for me.
“Oh, I see,” my dad sighed as our servers brought in a tray of drinks along with the main course...steak and baked potatoes, my dad’s favorites.
“Eat up!” my mom said in an attempt to ease the conversation.
*****
After dinner Jamie and I had a girl-to-girl talk about what had gone down the last time we’d been in the same room. She apologized for what she’d done, and I too apologized. Following that I decided I needed to go have a sit-down talk with my parents, a talk about mine and Teddy’s relationship.
“Mom, dad...can we talk?” I asked upon entering my parents’ bedroom.
“Of course,” my dad was quick to answer as he sat in a leather chair that was placed in the far corner of the bedroom, right next to one of the many windows in the White House.
“What is it sweetie?” my mom asked.
“I came to talk to both of you about my relationship with Teddy. Now, I know neither of you are very fond of Teddy, and I’m here to tell you that I don’t care. Teddy makes ME happy, and that’s all that matters to me. This thing we have is real. It’s meant to be. I’m the real me when I’m with him, and if you can’t see that then...”
“Darlin’, it’s not that we don’t like Teddy. To begin with your mother and I thought you two were rushing into a relationship. But today, seeing the two of you together, I’ve noticed he’s the missing piece in your life. He’s the guy you’ve been looking for,” by now my dad was starting to get a little teary-eyed. “And the most important thing...he makes my baby girl the happiest she’s been in a while. For that, I approve of your wanting to marry Teddy.”
“I agree with your father. He makes you happy, and we’ve both noticed that...so I more than approve of him,” my mom smiles wide.
“You guys mean it?” I asked as I found my own self tearing up a little.
“Of course,” they answered in unison, dad and mom both wiping tears from their eyes.
“Then there’s no better time than now to ask this...” I began, pausing momentarily to take in a deep breath. “Daddy, will you walk me down the aisle?”
“You bet,” my dad smiles as he gets up out of his chair, walking over and giving me the biggest and best hug he’d ever given.
*****
Talking with my mom and dad made me feel a LOT better. So much better than I skipped, in heels, back to my bedroom. There I found Teddy already in his PJs. When he saw me skipping like a little school girl, he laughed. He’d be this excited too once I told him the news.
“Someone’s extra chipper tonight, aren’t we?” he chuckles as I push my door shut, locking it behind me.
“I have a good reason to be this chipper and happy,” I smiled as I draped my arms around Teddy’s neck.
“What is your reason?”
“Mom, dad, and I just had a talk...a talk about the two of us, our relationship. I started telling them that I didn’t care what they thought, and that I was going to marry you regardless. Then mom and dad both told me they approve of us getting married. Dad was even crying! It...I can’t believe it! They finally see how happy the two of us really are.”
“Aw, baby, that’s great!” Teddy exclaims, kissing my cheek softly.
“I know! I even asked dad to walk me down the aisle.”
“He said yes, right?”
“YES!”
“I’m so happy for you honey,” Teddy smiles again, pushing a small strand of hair out of my face. “What do you say we celebrate this great news?”
“How are we going to celebrate? It’s not like we can go have sex or anything.”
“No, we can’t, but we CAN go bowling,” Teddy’s smile had now turned into a grin, a devilish grin. “We can finish off our bowling match by coming back here and take another bubble bath.”
“Hm, I like the sound of that,” I giggle as Teddy picks me up off of my feet and begins the walk to the bowling lanes.
