Chapter 10
Running into the emergency room I spotted my ex-boyfriend sitting down in a chair. I quickly ran up to him to see if any news had come about.
"Is she okay?" I asked once I had reached him.
"They are doing some more x-rays on her now. All they know now is it's just a few broken bones. There isn't anything life threatening," Lucas replied as the door to the x-ray room opened.
Seconds later Melissa was wheeled out of the room in a wheelchair. She had a cast on her left arm, and she had some sort of brace on her neck. Cuts and bruises were all on her leg. Seeing her like this made me cry again.
"I am so glad to see you are still alive," I cried as I walked over and gave her a big hug. "Teddy and I got here as fast as we could."
"Thanks for coming Kourt. I am so glad to see you here. I love you," Melissa replied as she got up out of the wheelchair. "I doubt I will be at school the beginning of next week. Is there anyway you could get my work?"
"Of course I could get your work. That would be no problem at all. I will do anything I can to help you out."
"You might want to get back to Teddy. He looks a little bit alone."
"Could we not worry about him now? You are hurting. Seeing my best friend after an accident is more important than him."
"I insist that you two leave and go back to wherever you were at. I know how much he means to you. He really likes you."
"You think?"
"No, I know."
"How?"
"It is just obvious."
"It may be obvious to you, but it doesn't feel like he likes me. I wish there was something more I could do to help you. Are you sure you don't want me to crash at your house?"
"Luke will help me manage. Thanks though. Call me sometime tomorrow, okay?"
"Got it," I smiled as Melissa and I headed towards the boys.
-Confidence-
Minutes had passed since Teddy and I had left the Emergency Room. We were just now getting back to his house. He said he was going to finish whatever he had started to cook.
"First you were in the ER and now Melissa just got out. Man, this day has to have been one of the worst days of my life. I just hope the coming up week is better than this past week," I replied as I took a seat in one of the stools at the bar in Teddy's kitchen.
"This week hasn't been the best. I agree with you there," Teddy replied as he put a pizza into the oven. "Are you sure you don't want me to take you to Melissa's? I don't mind doing so if you need me to."
"No, I am sure. She told me to stay here with you. Anyways, I think Luke can keep her company. He seems to enjoy that kind of thing. He really likes her, and she really likes him. The two seem perfect for each other. I just think Luke is scared to ask her out."
"If he likes her, why would he be scared? It isn't that hard."
"Well, I know...but that's just how Luke is. It took him forever, almost three weeks, before he asked me out. If he wouldn't have asked me when he did, I probably would have ended up asking him."
"I couldn't see Luke being scared to ask someone out. He's a jock. They aren't supposed to be afraid of anything."
"Luke isn't your typical jock. He has feelings."
"I just don't see how he is afraid. If he likes her then he should ask her out."
"You can't say ANYTHING," I yelled running towards the stairs.
-Confidence-
As I gathered my things, I saw Teddy's shadow enter the room. He had the pizza and some drinks in his hands.
"What are you doing?" he asked placing the pizza on his dresser.
"I am leaving," I replied heading for the door. "Night," I said walking past him.
"Why are you leaving? Did I do something to make you mad?"
"Yes. You have done something to make me mad. You should know what the thing is too."
"I don't ever recall doing anything to make you mad. Please tell me what it is."
"No. If you can't remember then it's not worth me explaining."
"Please?"
"I will see you at school tomorrow," I sighed as I walked down the stairs shaking my head.
-Confidence-
"Melissa, I just don't know what to do. I don't think I can take this any longer," I cried into my phone as I laid on my bed, looking up at the ceiling.
"Ask him," Melissa said. "It will be worth it, I promise."
"No. It wouldn't feel right for me to ask him. Guys are supposed to ask the girls. You know that."
"There is nothing wrong with a girl asking the guy. Heck, I asked Luke just a few minutes ago. He said yes. If Luke would say yes to me then I'm sure Teddy would say yes to you. It never hurts to ask Kourtni."
"I would never have the guts to ask him. Are you kidding? He is Teddy Geiger. He is famous."
"So? Luke's a star football player and I asked him."
"That's different Melissa. He isn't famous like Teddy is. I mean sure, Luke is famous around school...but he isn't famous all over the United States."
"I say go for it. It never hurts to try."
"Who is at your house? I hear a bunch of people in the background."
"It is Lucas and Malcolm. Why do you ask?"
"I was just wondering. They are being awfully loud."
"They cannot help it."
"Yes they can. They have no manners. They should know better than to talk that loud when someone is on the phone."
"It isn't bothering me."
"Well, it is bothering me. I can barely hear myself think."
"Whatever. I have to go."
"Fine. Bye," I said hanging up my phone.

Chapter 11
Walking into school I noticed a crowd of boys around the area where Teddy's locker was. It looked like it was a few members of the football team. Seconds later I saw Malcolm come up from the ground, and shortly after I saw him go back down to the ground. Was he fighting someone? I decided to go and see.
As I got closer to the boys, I started to become nervous. What if it was Lucas? What if it was Melissa? Finally approaching them, I stood on my tip-toes to see who it was that was getting beat up. I saw it was Teddy who was getting punched in the face.
"Malcolm! Stop it," I yelled busting through a few of the guys.
"Grab her," Malcolm yelled as a few of the guys picked me up and held a tight grip on my arms. "She deserves this."
"Malcolm, NO! Someone HELP," I yelled as I tried to get away from the two boys that were holding me back. "HELP!" I continued to yell hoping someone would come help.
Looking behind me I saw Lucas and Melissa running my way.
"Lucas...help!" I yelled. "You have got to stop him."
"I can't do that," Lucas said when he saw who it was that was getting beaten up.
"Fine then," I said as I somehow managed to break free. "I will settle this."
-Confidence-
"Let go of him right now," I yelled as I went and slapped Malcolm on his face. "NOW!"
"You do not tell me what to do," Malcolm said as he looked up at me.
"Kourtni, back off. I can handle this by myself," Teddy said.
"Shut up Teddy. I'll deal with you later," I yelled as I kicked Malcolm's leg. "Malcolm, let him go RIGHT now. Why are you doing this to him? Why are you doing this to me?"
"You know good and well we had something, but no...this stupid a**hole had to get himself in the middle of it. He had to get close to you."
"Malcolm, what in the h*** are you talking about? You and I never had anything. You wanted me, but I NEVER wanted you back. If I wanted anyone it would be Teddy," I said as Malcolm's hands started to slip off of Teddy's jacket.
"Excuse me?" Malcolm asked as he pushed me into the lockers. "Repeat that one more time, if you don't mind."
"I never have and never will want you. You are the only one that wants around here. Ever since Melissa turned you down you have been gunning for me hoping to break our friendship up. I know how you work. I'm not a fool."
"That's it," Malcolm said as he raised his hand back.
"Hit her and you die," I heard someone say. Looking over I saw Lucas walking into the circle of boys. "Get your hands off of her. Bro, get over it. She doesn't like you. The only one she's interested in is him. He's just that much better than you."
-Confidence-
The school day was almost to a close. My day hadn't been the best. Ever since I broke up the fight between Teddy and Malcolm, I hadn't even seen or spoken to Teddy. I was starting to get worried.
"Why did you do that?" Teddy asked when he walked up next to me.
"Do you want the truth?" I asked pushing open the doors, heading towards the football bleachers.
"Yes. The truth would be very nice."
"I care about you. That's why I got involved in it. When someone you deeply care for is getting hurt, you can't help but to get involved. I was the only one who could've stopped it."
"Thanks, even though I could have taken care of him."
"Whatever," I sighed as I threw my stuff onto the first row of the bleachers.
"Since we are somewhat being honest with each other, there is something I need to tell you. It's kind of depressing."
"Can I take a guess? You have to leave for New York again. Am I right? I thought I was. Just go to New York, and forget about me. I don't care."
"Woah, whoever said I would forget about you?"
"I did. It's obvious I care for you more than you care for me."
"That's not true."
"There is no way you can prove that I am wrong, now is there? Exactly. That is what I thought. I am always right."
"Just let me explain things. I have to go to New York and record some tracks for my album. I will email you the address of the studio so you can come anytime you want. I will even mail you my schedule of when I am supposed to be there."
"I won't come."
"Well, I am still going to email it to you. I think I know what is bothering you, and I have an answer for you."
"What is bothering me?"
"My mom won't let me."
"Your mom won't let you do what Teddy?"
"She won't let me ask you to be my girlfriend. She says I don't need one right now."
"I am sure. If you really wanted me to be your girlfriend then you would have talked things over with her. Good bye," I said as I got up and headed for the parking lot.
"I will see you around."
"No, you won't be seeing me around."
"Kourtni, don't do this. This isn't worth it, I promise."
"I don't feel like listening to a mama's boy right now."
-Confidence-
"Mom, it's over. Stop bugging me to get his autograph," I said as I tore down all of my pictures of Teddy. "He is leaving for New York tomorrow. I probably won't ever see him again. I could care less about even speaking to him again."
"You cannot just give up like that Kourtni. I taught you better than that. Give things a chance," my mom said as the doorbell rang. "I will go get that."
"Whatever," I sighed as my mom headed to get the door.
-Confidence-
I had heard the door open and close, but still I couldn't figure out if whoever it was had stayed or left. Seconds later there was a knock at my door. Why was my mom knocking?
"It's open," I said as I began to tear down the final pictures from my wall. "Come on in."
The door slowly opened and a shadowy figure entered my room. Who was it? It obviously wasn't my mom.
"I brought you something...but you don't have to take it," Teddy said as I saw him place something on my bed. "I will leave now seeing that you are busy."
"What is it?" I asked as I walked towards my bed.
"It's just a tape of an interview I did at a radio station here in town a few weeks ago. You might enjoy it. I don't know if you will anymore. I also left something else. Well, bye," Teddy sighed as he walked towards my bedroom door.
"Wait," I called out. "Do not leave yet."
"Why would you want a mama's boy like me to stay?"
"Forget I ever said that. I wasn't thinking," I said as I shut the door and locked it before Teddy could leave. "You are stuck here until I unlock it," I said pushing Teddy back towards my bed.
"Whatever," Teddy sighed.
"Here," I said handing Teddy an early birthday present that I had brought him. "I knew your birthday was coming up. I went on and got you something. It isn't that great."
"It is..."
"It is us," I said with a smile as I sat next to Teddy on the floor. "I didn't know if you wanted anything more from me, especially after the way I treated you earlier today. Will you forgive me for the way I acted?" I said as I hit a button that turned on my CD player.
"Yeah...sure," Teddy replied as Aly & AJ's song 'Something More' started to play.
"This song reminds me of you...well, us as friends."
"That reminds me. There is something I need to ask you."
"Okay. The floor is yours."
"Will you go out with me?"
"I will have to think on it. Give me a few weeks, and I'll let you know."
"Sure...of course," Teddy replied as he got up and walked towards the door.
"Before you go..." I said as I pulled on his arm to get him to turn around. I leaned in and kissed him. "Bye," I smiled with a sigh of relief as Teddy unlocked the door and walked out of my room.
THE END!
