Living the Dream Teddy Geiger Fan Fiction
Chapter 1:
Summer camps are supposed to be fun, but this year was different. I just graduated high school, and my parents are sending me to some stupid music camp. They seem to think I want to be some famous pop star, which isn’t true. So, while my friends are getting ready for college, I’m stuck at this stupid camp up on the lake for three weeks with a bunch of strangers I don’t know.
“I can’t believe you’re making me do this. Can’t you see I’m the oldest one here?” I scoffed as I leaned against my mom’s SUV. “And what’s REALLY embarrassing is the fact that my parents have to DRIVE me when I’m EIGHTEEN years old!”
“Calm down Kourtni. I’m sure this camp isn’t going to be as bad as you think it’s going to be,” my mom said, trying to calm me down.
“I don’t even want to BE here! You know that!”
“Let’s just go get you signed in,” my dad said as he pushed me towards the sign-in tents they had set up outside of one of the cabins.
----------------------
Two hours passed since my parents left me at this crappy camp. Luckily I had a room to myself in the cabin. I wasn’t stuck with one the bratty younger campers. However, I was getting myself ready to go put up with them.
When I was getting signed in one of the counselors said something about a show tonight. It was supposed to be like a concert put on by all of the counselors. They were all going to be singing, dancing, and playing instruments. I didn’t want to go, but the girl told me it was required of all campers.
“This is as good as it’s going to get,” I sighed while looking at myself in the bathroom mirror. “It’s not like I’ve got anyone to impress anyways. None of the male counselors I saw were cute.”
----------------------
Thirty minutes into this little “show” and I was ready to get out of the camp. I wanted to pack up my things and go back home to my comfortable bed.
“Now, campers, we have a special treat for you! This year we have managed to score a celebrity camp counselor. He’s going to be helping a selected few of you campers,” Alexa, the counselor who helped sign me in, said. “Everyone, please help me in welcoming Columbia Recording artist...Teddy Geiger!”
It couldn’t be him. Could it? No, it couldn’t. Why would Teddy Geiger come to some crummy little camp and tutor a bunch of little brats?
“It is him,” I whispered to myself when I looked up and saw Teddy walking onto the stage, guitar in hand.
He stood behind the mic stand and waved to everyone. Then he caught my eye and smiled at me. Sitting towards the front was a good idea on my part. Maybe this camp wasn’t going to be as bad as I thought it was going to be.
“Evening everyone,” Teddy said. “Tonight I’m going to be playing a new song of mine. It’s called ‘Fast Girl’, and I hope all of you like it.”
You say it all Maybe too much information Is such that it means nothing Well boots to her thighs I thought I was down A disposable crown Such a sweet deception, yeah
Mama said that girl She goes too fast for me ‘Cause she goes too fast for me That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me
Kill the intrigue Cancel the band I got things on my band Everything needs attention We get the thought Don’t speak, I’ll get caught ‘Cause this ticket I bought Only leads to questions here
My mama said That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me
That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me That girl
‘Cause I barely trust myself And I know that speed can kill Speed can kill Mothers always know Little boys wanna crash Little boys wanna crash
That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me
That girl she goes too fast for me She goes too fast for me That girl she goes too fast
As soon as Teddy finished the song everyone stood up and applauded him. Girls rushed towards the stage, hoping he’d reach out and touch their precious little hands. I laughed at them as I turned around and headed back to my cabin.
----------------------
I was fixing to get in my bed and turn on a movie when I had a sudden craving for something to drink. I drug myself out of bed and to the kitchen to see if there was anything in the community fridge. Luckily there were some bottles of water and some Diet Cokes, two of my favorites.
“Hello...is anyone here?” a voice called out.
Then it hit me. I hadn’t seen anyone else moving their things into this cabin. I was the only person occupying the cabin, until now.
“Um, yeah? I’m in the kitchen,” I responded as the front door was pushed to a close before footsteps started making their way to the kitchen.
When the person rounded the corner I almost spit water out everywhere. I couldn’t believe my eyes.
“Oh, hey,” I smiled.
“How’s it going? I’m Teddy,” he said, extending his hand. “Wait a minute. I know that face. You were in the crowd...third row back?”
“Yeah, that was me. Is this where you are staying?” I asked before I spotted his bags. “Oh, I guess so...considering you have bags.”
“The head counselor told me it was just two people living here. She said something about an older girl living in here so she wouldn’t have to live with the younger campers.”
“Yep, that’s me. I put in a special request. I didn’t want to live with any brats,” I chuckled. “Well, it was nice meeting you. I’m going to head to bed...got to get up early for my first lesson in the morning,” I told him as I waved and started to my room.
“Wait...I didn’t catch your name.”
“Kourtni...” I turned around and smiled at him.
“Nice to meet you...Kourtni,” he smiled back at me.
“Night,” I smiled as I walked into my bedroom and closed the door behind me.
Maybe this camp wasn’t going to be bad after all.

Chapter 2:
I’m gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have and cannonball into the water.
My ringtone was sounding off, meaning it was time for me to wake up. I did just that. I got out of bed and walked into my bathroom, turning on the shower. From inside my bathroom I could hear noises coming from the kitchen. Pots were being banged together, and drawers were being opened and closed. I ignored it and went on about my business of taking a shower.
------------------
I walked out of my room and smelled something yummy coming from the kitchen. When I walked into the kitchen I found Teddy cooking.
“Wow, I’m impressed. I didn’t know you cooked,” I told him as I opened the fridge and grabbed a Diet Coke. “Mind if I have one? I know you’re a big fan of Diet Coke.”
“Help yourself...they’re for both of us,” he smiled. “As for cooking, it happens on occasion. And I only cook for special people...myself included.”
“So, do you cook for your girlfriend?”
“Um, yeah...about her...I don’t have one.”
“But...”
“We broke up, which is why I’m here now. I needed to get away for a while. When my mom presented me with this opportunity I couldn’t pass it up. Besides, I love teaching people things related to music.”
“Ohh, I understand.”
“But to answer your question, when I do have girlfriends I enjoy cooking for them. It earns me brownie points too,” he laughed.
“Yeah, I really like a guy who can cook. That’s less work I have to do.”
“What about you? What does your boyfriend think about you coming off to camp for part of the summer?”
“Let’s see, I haven’t had a boyfriend in four years...so I don’t have to worry about what he thinks.”
“Four years?”
“Almost.”
“I bet it’s nice being single for that long.”
“Not really...considering all of my friends had boyfriends. They were always out with them, or when we’d hang out together they’d be on the phone with them...or they’d be all over them. Plus, it’s nice having a boyfriend during the holidays. But, unfortunately, I haven’t had the fun of spoiling a guy during the holidays...not in the past four years.”
“I’m sorry to hear about that.”
“It’s okay. I’ll find a nice guy one day. I’m tired of jackasses.”
“That’s the spirit,” Teddy laughed as he took a sip of his Diet Coke. “Well, I’m off to teach my first class of the day. Guess I’ll see you later?”
“Possibly,” I laughed as he started piling his dirty dishes in the dishwasher.
------------------
Since I was new to the camp I had to ask for directions to the building my class was going to be in. As one of the counselors was walking me to the building she was looking at my papers and told me I had a private class...just me and my teacher. I was shocked when I walked in and saw Teddy sitting in a chair.
“Well, hey...couldn’t stay away from me that long?” he asked with a laugh.
“Ha...in your dreams; I’m here for a class. You better teach me something, or I’ll be pissed,” I said as I sat my bags on the floor, next to Teddy’s chair.
“So, what exactly do you want me to teach you?”
“I don’t know. To be honest I don’t even want to be here. I didn’t want to come to this stupid camp. My parents forced me into coming. I’d much rather be getting ready to move into my apartment.”
“Apartment? You must be getting ready to start college.”
“Someone’s feeling smart today,” I chuckled.
“Why don’t you want to be here?”
“It just isn’t my thing. I’m the oldest camper here. There are counselors that are younger than me. That’s sad. You see, my parents want me to be some famous popstar, singer person. I, on the other hand, don’t want to pursue a career in music. They made me try it when I was younger, and I hated it. I’d much rather go to college and get a degree in education. Teaching little kids is a passion of mine.”
“You sing?”
“I try,” I shrugged.
“Can I hear you sing...just to see where you’re at? That’d give me something to work with. Then maybe I could figure out what you need to learn or something.”
“If I must...”
“I’m no Simon Cowell...in case you were wondering.”
“You’re in luck. I have a good CD in my purse. My friends and I jam out to this one song. We even have our own little routine type thing. We sometimes like to act like we’re famous singers playing a sold out arena in Birmingham,” I laughed.
“Sounds exciting...you going to do the routine for me?”
“Wait and see...Mr. Impatient,” I laughed as I grabbed the CD and walked over to the CD player.
I had a feeling Teddy was going to love the song I was going to be singing for him.
“About the routine...no, you won’t get to see it. Sorry. I don’t have my fellow dancers around to help me out. Besides, I didn’t really do anything.”
“Then let’s hear your song. I’m anxious.”
You’re the boy in the back of the room My wallflower that’s in bloom You’re so oblivious to those But I could fall into those eyes Pretty circles that I try to escape into
Well hallelujah when you look at me And hallelujah you’re the halo over me And you’re all that I need
With you every day is Saturday With you every word you say is like a song With you, well, everything is obvious Hallelujah, hallelujah, well I found you I found you I found you, hallelujah
I never thought I’d take that jump A nervous laugh around someone I’m sleeping in the palm of your hand The way you whisper on the phone I ehar your voice when I’m alone ‘Cause you always understand Just who I am
And hallelujah Your love is free And hallelujah You’re the halo over me And you’re all that I need
With you every day is Saturday With you every word you say is like a song With you, well, everything is obvious Hallelujah, hallelujah I found you I found you, hallelujah
The best things are unexpected just like Like a billboard in the sky you just can’t miss And I’m never letting this love go
Hallelujah Hallelujah
With you every day is Saturday With you every word you say is like a song With you everything is obvious Hallelujah Hallelujah ‘Cause I found you Yeah, I found you Yeah, I found you Hallelujah Hallelujah
Hallelujah
“One of my songs...nice,” Teddy smiled.
“It’s my favorite,” I shrugged. “The first time I heard it I fell in love.”
“I’m glad someone likes my old stuff. Everyone is pressuring me to put out new songs and a new album. All of this pressure makes me feel like my old stuff isn’t worth anything.”
“Your old stuff is what got you this far. If people don’t like it, they aren’t your true fans.”
“So, you’re calling yourself a true fan?”
“I guess you could say that. I know a lot about you,” I told him. “That was probably the wrong thing to say.”
“How come you’re not like the other girls?”
“Excuse me?”
“How come you aren’t like those girls who rushed the stage last night?”
“Number one...I’m not thirteen. Number two...I like doing things on a more personal level, like this,” I giggled as I plopped down on the floor. “So, teacher, I’m ready for my first lesson.”
“Oh boy at the things I’d like to teach you...”
“Excuse me?”
“Nothing,” Teddy said, shaking his head. “So, I hear they are having this date night thing tonight. I think it’s like a movie night and people are required to bring dates or something. Are you going?”
“Um, no; there’s no camper here I’d even consider going with. And to top that off, none of the counselors are cute either...except this one. His dark hair and his blue eyes are to DIE for.”
“Hm...I wonder who that could be?”
“I don’t know. I heard he’s single. Think you could talk to him for me?”
“I’ll see what I can do. Want me to get him to ask you to go to the movie thing tonight?”
“If he has free time on his schedule, it’d be nice.”
“Someone’s quite flirtatious. I’m just going to be straight forward with you.”
“How so?”
“Look, we both know if you go to the movie tonight you have to have a date. I hear they are showing the new Batman movie, so I really want to go, but it’d be weird if I took another camper...one of the younger girls. So, want to be my date?”
“A teacher going on a date with a student is kind of weird, don’t you think?”
“You’re eighteen. I’m twenty. I’m not REALLY a teacher. So no, I don’t think it’d be weird.”
“I don’t really want to go see Batman. Movies like that aren’t my cup of tea.”
“Fine, don’t go,” Teddy said as he got up out of his chair and stormed out of the building.
What a baby! Couldn’t he just see I was playing hard to get?

Chapter 3:
My first day of classes went alright. I still wanted to get out of this place. The younger campers were driving me insane. So, I was relieved when I got the chance to go back to my cabin. When I walked in I could hear Teddy playing his guitar from inside his room.
“I didn’t ask for solitude. I just wanna be with you. I’m just staring at these walls wondering did you even care. Did you even care? Did you even care? Did you even care? Did you even care? Did you even care?” he sang.
I stopped in front of his bedroom door when I saw it was cracked. My fast was now balled up, and it was lightly tapping on his door.
“It’s open,” he called out as I pushed the door wide open and walked in. “Oh...it’s you; hey,” he sighed when he looked up and realized who it was walking into his room.
“Another new song you’re working on?” I asked him.
“Yeah.”
“It sounds nice. I like it.”
“Thanks.”
“How was the rest of your day? Were your classes good?”
“They were alright.”
“That’s good.”
“Yeah.”
“I can obviously tell I’m not wanted here, so I’m going to retire to my room for a couple of hours. I guess I’ll see you in a few so we can go to the movie. You know where I am. Just come get me whenever you’re ready,” I sighed as I spun around on my heels and started out of Teddy’s room.
“Wait,” Teddy called out as he grabbed hold of my hand. He spun me around so quickly that I practically fell into his arms. “You don’t have to go,” he whispered as his beautiful blue eyes looked deep into mine.
“It’s okay. I want to,” I smiled at him as I let go of his hand and walked out of the room, biting on my lip.
-----------------------
An hour and a half later, and there was a knock on my bedroom door. I slowly opened it and found Teddy on the other side. He was in dark blue jeans and a white button down. It looked like he took the time to clean himself up too. I liked this look on him.
“You look nice,” I smiled at him.
“So do you,” he smiled as he looked at me, scanning my outfit, which consisted of a blue dress and cowboy boots. “I’ve never seen a girl wear cowboy boots with a dress. This is a first.”
“Good,” I continued to smile as I flipped off my light and pulled my door shut. “Oh...shoot, we’re supposed to bring blankets aren’t we?”
“I’ve already got that stuff on the kitchen counter. I’ll get it on our way out.”
“I’m glad one of us is prepared,” I laughed as we started walking towards the kitchen.
-----------------------
Nearly two and a half hours had passed since we left our cabin. Teddy and I were just now getting up and leaving the movie before it was over. I couldn’t take any more of seeing Heath Ledger on the screen. The movie wasn’t supposed to be sad, but I left crying.
“You okay?” Teddy asked in a whisper as we snuck past all of the campers.
“I’m fine,” I sniffled as I wiped the tears from my eyes.
Things were quiet until I felt myself reach out and grab Teddy’s hand. He made some kind of cute noise that words can’t really describe.
“I’m scared,” I told him.
“Of what?”
“Bears.”
“Seriously? There’s no bears around here.”
“You don’t know that...”
“I’ve been informed by the director of the camp that there aren’t any bears,” he laughed.
“I know there aren’t any bears,” I giggled as I let go of his hand and ran ahead of him.
“In case you forgot you are wearing a dress.”
“Your point is...”
“Well, I didn’t really have a point.”
“So you’re saying you didn’t mind it?”
“Mind what?”
“Come on. I know you were looking. You’re a guy.”
“What was I supposed to be looking at?”
“Teddy!”
A moment of silence fell over us as we approached the back door of our cabin.
“Okay, fine...you caught me,” Teddy laughed.
“And...?”
“You were too far ahead of me, so I couldn’t get that good of a look.”
“You’re a bad liar...I hope you know that,” I chuckled as I pushed the door open.
-----------------------
It was about midnight, and I couldn’t get to sleep. My mind was on Teddy...go figure. After debating with myself for a couple of minutes, I finally decided to get up and go knock on Teddy’s door. He opened the door and I laughed. The boy had sex hair, minus the sex part, and he looked so hot.
“I’m sorry if I woke you up, but I just couldn’t sleep,” I sighed as he stepped aside and let me into his room.
“Have a bad dream or something?” he asked as he crawled back into his bed, pulling the covers tightly around him.
“No. I was just thinking about...”
“About what?”
“I couldn’t stop thinking about you,” I blurted out.
“This may sound stupid, but is that good or bad?”
“Good...except for the fact I can’t get to sleep.”
“What good is it going to do you if you’re in here? You’re going to go back to your room and think about me even more.”
“Of course you take the pessimistic attitude with things.”
“That was not taking sides. All I did was state the simple truth, and you know it.”
“I know, but still...you could’ve said you would sing me to sleep or something. I don’t know! Acoustic guitar usually puts me to sleep.”
“Look on my dresser. I’ve got a CD I recorded at my parents’ place before I moved out. It’s an all acoustic CD. Pop it in your CD player.”
“Ugh...you’re no help,” I scoffed as I yanked the CD off of his dresser and walked out of his room. -----------------------
Week two of camp had just begun, and I was actually having fun. My favorite part of the day was my first class with Teddy each morning. We’d pick out a song for me to sing, I’d sing it, and he’d give me tips on how to improve a certain part of the song. I’d try it again, and this cycle repeated itself until our hour was up. Today was a little different though. For some reason Teddy decided we were going to change it up and do a little dancing...dancing together that is.
“Okay...here’s the next song,” Teddy said as he hit play on the CD player.
“I know this!” I exclaimed like a little school girl.
“May I have this dance?” Teddy politely asked with a smile as he extended his hand towards me.
“You may,” I smiled back at him as I took his hand and followed him to the middle of the room where we began dancing.
My hands tremble My knees get weak Every time you are Close to me This don’t happen every day And I’d be a fool to let you walk away
And all these things make me believe That we were meant to be ‘Cause I don’t want to be lonely Just be my one and only ‘Cause I want you to see That
All I want is you To rock me through the night Tell me it’s okay When things don’t go so right I know I haven’t found you But I still believe That one day I’ll wake up And you’ll be next to me
Baby I’ve been looking And I just can’t find You, baby I’ve gotta have you I can’t get you off my mind
After that part Teddy pulled me in closer. He looked down so that his head was resting against mine, making our lips inches from one another’s. We’d never been this close until now. Could we get any closer? Before I could ask myself the question again I heard the door snatch open. Someone was clearing their throat.
“Oh, Mr. Lowery,” Teddy said.
“This can’t happen. Miss Cooper, you’re going to be dismissed from camp,” Mr. Lowery, the head of the camp, informed me.
“What? But, sir, you can’t do that to her. She wasn’t doing anything. This was all my idea.”
I grabbed what I had brought to class and bolted out of the classroom. Once I was outside the tears began pouring down the sides of my face. What made things even worse was the fact that I could hear Teddy yelling at Mr. Lowery. If he wasn’t careful he was going to get himself fired, and I’d hate that for him. He was doing so much for the campers here. He didn’t need to go and screw it up.
-----------------------
“Listen...I’m sorry I got you kicked out,” Teddy said as he walked into my bedroom.
“Save it Ted,” I cried as I zipped my bag shut. “My parents are here now. I’m going home.”
“I feel like sh.it now.”
“Don’t.”
My responses were short and not so sweet...definitely not the ones Teddy wanted to hear. I couldn’t think of anything else to say though. I was so upset that I couldn’t concentrate.
“Guess I’ll send you a MySpace comment or something...maybe tag you in some of our pictures together. Bye Teddy,” I said as I waved goodbye to Teddy.
