Just as Teddy had said, he left the next week. He was gone straight through the rest of the year; Although he did get to come home for Christmas, but there was no time for him to visit with his friends.
Becca had decided to get a job at the ice cream place she and Teddy visited often so she could go to school half a day and then go to work for the rest. She found that it helped keep her mind off Teddy and how much she missed him.
"Oh my gosh, there's Chase!" She heard a couple of girls whisper from behind their cups of ice cream. She rolled her eyes and shook her head as they continued to gush about how cute they thought he was. "She is SO lucky. He's fine!"
She almost snorted from trying to keep her laughter in. "Hey you," he smiled at her and she smiled back. She was happy with him, but she always had the feeling that she was just settling.
But prom was just around the corner, and she made a promise with Amie to not break his heart before prom or too soon after. She didn't want to look like she was using him or anything.
"Hey yourself."
"So have you decided what color prom dress you're going to wear?" He asked curiously.
"Yes, but it doesn't matter because you're not matching your vest to it!" She laughed. "I thought we agreed you were going to just wear black and white?"
"I know, I know. I just really want to know what color you're wearing." He laughed. "I can't help it."
"Fine," she laughed at him. "I'm going to wear pink."
"What shade of pink?" He asked curiously.
"I told you no corsage!" She laughed, knowing what he was thinking.
"OK, OK. Geez." He laughed as she playfully smacked his shoulder. "So can a guy get a scoop of strawberry ice cream?"
She sighed. "I guess if I
have to give it to you."
He smiled and laughed at her. "Of course. Because I'm your boyfriend."
She handed the paper cup to him before taking his money. "There ya go. I'll see you tomorrow at four with your sister and Jake for pictures. K? Don't be late."
"Or what?" He laughed.
"I'll figure it out when I get there. Now get back to school." she smirked and gave him a quick kiss before sending him on his way.
She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket and after seeing that there was more than enough help to handle the two customers in the store, she took a break.
"Hello?"
"Hey." She heard him whisper into the phone.
"Teddy?" She hadn't even looked at the caller ID before picking it up. "Is that you? Why are you whispering?"
"I'm hiding behind a bunch of cardboard boxes in this venue in... Heck I don't even know where I am. I think its Ohio. Or maybe its Kansas."
She let out a small laugh. "Well I'm glad to know that it hasn't totally fried your brains."
"Oh geez, don't even go there. I haven't slept properly in... four days? I'm exhausted."
"Only a month to go."
"28 days, six hours, 49 minutes, and two seconds," he informed her and she laughed.
"Are you just picking random numbers?"
He laughed. "Only after the six hours and forty-nine minutes."
"So my parents totally got me a lap top for graduation." She told him.
"Nice."
"Yeah, they were like. It's so you can keep in touch with us while you're in Europe and California." She mocked their voices.
"Ohh, I see." He laughed and they could hear someone calling his name in the background. "Be quiet."
It sounded like the line had gone dead, but Teddy had just covered the earpiece on the phone. She could hear a door creak open, and for the sake of their conversation she hoped they didn't find him.
"There you are Teddy! Let's go! Soundcheck!" She heard someone say. "Odd place to try to sleep," the guy mumbled and she let out a laugh.
"I'm sorry," he said, and he sounded genuinely depressed over it.
"It's ok. Go do what you do and have fun."
"I'll try. It gets hard after a while." He paused. "I miss you."
She paused too, enjoying the silence. "I miss you too."
"I'll see you in twenty-eight days, six hours and forty minutes." He told her. "Bye Becks."

Prom went surprisingly well. They had so much fun dancing together and acting like complete goofballs in the middle of the dance floor.
After a rather fast rap song that Becca couldn't even figure out the name of, the junior class president announced it was time to crown king and queen as well and prince and princess.
The prince and princess spots were filled with the most popular eleventh grade cheerleader and football player. Needless to say, the junior class was shallower than shallow.
The king went to Chase, who wasn't at all shocked, and neither was anyone else. He was pretty much - for the lack of better words - the class hottie. The queen went to a girl named Kourtni, who was in Becca's music appreciation class. She was one of those people that everyone loved and new, no matter what "clique" they belonged to.
Amie and Jake decided they were ready to go after the king and queen had their dance. Becca made sure to congratulate Kourtni before the left.
"Thanks, see you in class Monday. Oh and I can't wait to hear that song you were telling me about." She smiled at her.
"Don't let me forget." Becca said her goodbyes and they were gone.

"Chase, stop, seriously." He had been trying to get her to sleep with him ever since they left prom earlier that night.
"Come on. We've been going out for months now."
"So? Months? That's nothing compared to what it takes for me to get that far with someone." She told him.
"You did it with that Tim guy."
"It was a mistake. We were both drunk off our a**es! I'm not that girl who parties hard and gets drunk anymore, and I won't have sex with someone until I feel its right." She told him.
"So when is it going to be right for you? Because I'm not going anywhere." he told her and she shook her head.
"Maybe you should just go home." She told him.
"I'm not going anywhere." He told her. "I don't want you to be mad at me."
"I'm not mad, I just... I don't want sex."
"Ok." He nodded and gave her a kiss on her forehead. "I'm sorry."
If he hadn't just apologized, she would have broken it off with him right there, but for some reason after his apology, she felt like she had to drag their relationship out even further.
She hated feeling like she was playing him or stringing him along, because she didn't want to hurt him. She still wanted Chase as a friend, and thats all they would ever be... Once she managed to end the boyfriend-girlfriend relationship they had going on.
