I Will Not Take My Love Away
FF Sequel to ‘In Love with a Memory’

Chapter 1

It was now October, almost four months had passed since I had last seen or spoken to Teddy. I was a senior in high school and preparing for my senior homecoming dance. So far my senior year was going okay, but was a little weird since I didn’t have Katie to chat with about my many problems with teachers. But now I had my other good friend, Jamie, to chat with about my problems. We could chat with each other about the same problems with the same teachers because we had all the same classes.

Now we were at my house getting ready for tonight’s football game and dance. Tonight was a very special game because it was homecoming and I was nominated for queen, so was Jamie. The students had voted the day before on who would be crowned tonight. Jamie and I were both nervous about it, but we knew we would be happy with whoever won.

“So…who is your date to the dance? You never told me,” I said as Jamie and I stood in my bathroom fixing our hair and doing our makeup.

“My date is Landon,” Jamie replied.

“You mean Landon James the quarterback for Monroe?”

“Yep, that is the Landon I’m going with to the dance.”

“How is he going to get away from the game and make it to the dance?”

“Oh, he faked sick for school today…so he won’t be playing. He will be coming here instead,” Jamie said with a smile. “Gah…I love him sometimes. Anyways, who is your date? Did you ever find one?”

“I decided to go by myself. If I went with someone else I’d be crushed because I would feel like I was hurting Teddy’s feelings.”

“Understandable,” Jamie said as she nodded her head.

-Take My Love Away-

A good two hours had passed since Jamie and I had left my house heading for the school. We were now standing on the football field waiting for the announcer to announce who had won the crown for queen…Jamie or me.

I took a deep breath, looked over at Jamie, and smiled. I was going to be happy with whoever won. If Jamie won I would be ecstatic because I knew she deserved it. If I won I would be happy because it would possibly be the biggest thing that had ever happened to me in my life.

“Your 2007-2008 homecoming queen is,” the announcer started but then made the dreaded pause, which he dragged on for what seemed like forever, “Kourtni Cooper!”

My mouth dropped. After realizing that it was all true, my escort and I walked forward to where I was supposed to be crowned at. This was turning out to be the best homecoming ever.

-Take My Love Away-

“Congratulations Kourtni,” Jamie said as she ran over to me on the sidelines.

“Thanks Jamie,” I said with a huge smile as Jamie and I exchanged hugs. “Can you believe it? I can’t believe it! This is absolutely amazing. My night so far is amazing and only one thing could make it the best night of my life, but I won’t get into that.”

“I already know what it is. You would have the best night of your life if Teddy magically appeared somewhere.”

“Correct,” I said with a simple nod.

“Let’s not talk about that because I don’t want to make you sad. How about we go sit in our reserved seats in the stands and enjoy the rest of the game?”

“Let’s go,” I said as Jamie and I walked arm-in-arm off the field, with smiles across our faces.

We were going to enjoy our senior homecoming no matter what. I wasn’t going to start crying about Teddy not being here. I’d cried enough over him not being here. I was still sad, of course, but I wasn’t going to let it keep me from having the best homecoming of my life.

-Take My Love Away-

“So it’s half-time…should we go change into our dresses for the dance?” I asked Jamie as we headed towards the bathrooms where our bags were.

“Sure…I guess so,” Jamie replied with a shrug of her shoulders. “Who’s performing?” Jamie asked as she pointed to a van where three guys were unloading equipment from the back of the van.

“I don’t know,” I replied with a shrug of my shoulders. “I didn’t even know we were going to have a performer. I thought we were sticking with the usual DJ.”

“That’s what I thought too. Maybe it’s a surprise performer?”

“It is obviously a surprise performer, but I wonder who it is. Who do you think it is?”

“I hope it’s Matt Wertz!”

“I shouldn’t have even asked that question,” I replied with a laugh as Jamie and I walked into the bathroom.

-Take My Love Away-

The homecoming football game had ended. Mine and Jamie’s school, Wilcox, had defeated the EMCA Wildcats. The score was 49-14. We were now headed into the gym for the dance and to find out who the secret performer was.

“I’m nervous,” Jamie said as she walked ahead of me as she held Landon’s hand.

“I just hope it’s someone good,” I said with a shrug of my shoulders as I sat down in the first available chair I saw. “This is our table. Let’s put our stuff here so nobody else gets it.”

Before Jamie could reply, our principal walked onto the stage.

“Hold on…I have to use the bathroom. I will be right back,” I said as I hurried off to the bathroom.

-Take My Love Away-
-Jamie’s Point of View-

“Students…are you ready to kick of the 2007 Homecoming Dance with our special performer?” our principal said.

All of the students, including myself, screamed ‘yes’ very loudly.

“Here he is. Come on out…,” the principal said as he took a short pause, “TEDDY GEIGER!”

My mouth dropped. Kourtni was going to DIE when she walked back out here and heard Teddy’s voice. I had to run to the bathroom and drag her back out here.

“Landon…I’ll be right back. I HAVE to go get Kourtni,” I said as I kicked off my heels and ran for the bathroom.

-Take My Love Away-

As I sat on the counter looking into the mirror, the door flew open and in ran Jamie. She was almost out of breath when she finally reached the counter.

“Why Jamie, you’re practically out of breath. What is it? Why have you been running?” I asked.

“The performer…amazing, must see,” Jamie replied as she grabbed my hand and pulled me off of the counter, dragging me out of the bathroom and back towards the dance floor.

-Take My Love Away-

I walked out of the bathroom and heard the music begin to play. Seconds later I managed to figure out what the person was saying.

“You love to run into the arms of anyone. Take off your shoes and socks and stay a while. You like the adrenaline rush just a little too much. You go from day to day, hand to mouth, and wonder why you’re unsatisfied,” the very familiar voice sang.

I walked back onto the dance floor and saw Teddy sitting on the stage, playing his guitar.

“You think still. You’ll find a soul behind a thrill. You’re just a cat chasing your tail round and round, but if you relax something might last. ‘Cause love is a marathon, that’s why you get tired so fast of everyone. Slow down and pace yourself, because when it’s good it’s a long, open road,” Teddy sang the second verse and chorus.

Teddy looked my direction, spotted me, and smiled. I couldn’t do anything more but flash a smile back at Teddy. My 2007 Homecoming night was complete. Teddy was back.

Teddy ended ‘Love is a Marathon’ and got up to take a sip of water from his water bottle. Seconds later he was seated back on the stool with his guitar still in hand. He was ready for the next song.

“This song that I’m fixing to sing goes out to a special girl who is here in the crowd right now. Matter of fact, I hear she is your 2007-2008 Homecoming Queen,” Teddy said as he looked right at me. “This one’s for you.”

I smiled as Teddy started to play. I could tell by the opening notes that it was my favorite Teddy song of all time, ‘For You I Will’.

“Wandering the streets in a world underneath it all. Nothing seems to be, nothing tastes as sweet as what I can’t have…like you and the way that you’re twisting your hair around your fingers. Tonight I’m not afraid to tell you what I feel about you,” Teddy began.

Jamie looked at me and started for the front row in front of the stage. I followed behind her.

“I’m gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have and cannonball into the water. I’m gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have. For you I will, for you I will. Forgive me if I st-stutter from all of the clutter in my head because I could fall asleep in those eyes, like a water bed. Do I seem familiar? I’ve crossed you in hallways a thousand times. No more camouflage, I wanna be exposed and not be afraid to fall,” Teddy continued to sing.

Teddy continued singing and Jamie and I continue dancing and singing along. It was now time for my favorite part of the song.

“If I could dim the lights in the mall and create a mood, I would…shout out your name so it echoes in every room, that’s what I’d do. That’s what I’d do to get through to you, yeah. Oh, I’m gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have and cannonball into the water. I’m gonna muster every ounce of confidence I have. For you I will. You always want what you can’t have, but I’ve got to try…must every ounce of confidence I have, for you I will. For you I will. For you I will,” Teddy finished as everyone clapped.
