Chapter 27
Teddy quickly let go of my hand as we walked down the basement stairs. We didn’t want to spoil our surprise right away… although the first thought that went through my mind was that he was embarrassed. I instantly stopped thinking that and remembered that it was Teddy’s idea to tell Chris in the first place… and that he wasn’t embarrassed of his feelings for me. After all, he had told an entire coffee shop how he felt about me… what more could a girl ask for? Chris looked at me, as we walked up, with a questioning look on his face. I just smiled as Teddy started to talk.
“Hey Chris, how’s it going?”
“I’m alright… what’s new with you guys?” he said slowly.
“Funny you should ask,” I said with a grin.
“Hey congrats… you don’t even have to say it… I already know what you came down here to tell me. I’m only gonna say two things and leave it at that… one… it’s about time…”
“What’s that supposed to mean?”
“Exactly what I said, it’s about time you two got together… I hated being stuck in the middle.”
“Okay fine… well we just wanted to tell someone… and Teddy thought you should be the first to know, since apparently you’ve known about mine and Teddy’s feelings for awhile now.”
“Wait, you knew she liked me and you didn’t say anything when I was confessing to you how much I liked her? You made me think she didn’t feel that way about me at all,” Teddy added.
“Yeah, well you’ve gotta let things happen… I didn’t want to meddle. Plus, when something’s meant to be, it’ll happen no matter what. And if I’d told you how she felt, you wouldn’t have written those two amazing songs you did… so it looks like I did you guys a favor,” Chris replied.
“Is that so?” I said laughing.
“Sure is,” he said with a grin. “Now for my other point… Teddy, it seems to me you’ve got yourself, to quote the amazing lyrics of Something Corporate, a punk rock princess… so you’d better not mess up and be good to my little sister. If you hurt her, I hurt you,” he said with a grin.
Teddy and I just looked at each other, then I broke the silence.
“Did you tell him?”
“It wasn’t me… it had to be you.”
“Hey, it was definitely not me...”
“What are you guys talking about? Care to clue me in?” Chris replied.
“Well, Something Corporate songs are what finally brought us together for the first time,” Teddy replied.
“Yeah, and punk rock princess is the first song he ever sang for me,” I said looking at Teddy and smiling.
“You’re just too cute,” Teddy said as he leaned in and kissed my nose again.
“Okay, enough mushy stuff for me… you two are just weird,” Chris interjected.
Teddy looked away from me and realized Chris was sitting there staring at us. He laughed and shrugged his shoulders. I couldn’t help but laugh at the situation… I didn’t want my brother seeing me interact with my boyfriend… that was just weird… plus he’ll get the overprotective thing going again.
“Well, we just wanted to tell you that, but I’ve really gotta get back home and shut off my light. Jess is coming over with me… then we’ll probably just stay over there for awhile… since it’s already getting kinda late,” Teddy said quickly.
“That’s cool man… well have fun and I guess I’ll see you guys later. Don’t do anything I wouldn’t,” he winked.
“Come on, you know we’re responsible adults,” I added with a laugh.
“Yep, we sure are… so we’ll uh, see you later then buddy,” Teddy agreed.
“Alright, have fun you two,” Chris said with a wave.
“That’s our signal to leave,” I said, winking.
“Let’s go then ma lady,” Teddy replied in that cute British accent he likes to fake.
We walked back up the stairs hand in hand, and I had never felt so comfortable and content with anyone in my life. I only hoped that his family would be okay with us being together.
