Chapter 4
The last time I had seen Teddy was when we were having dinner with his parents. That was nearly three months ago. He was supposed to be home for a good month, but the following morning he was whisked off to LA for some kind of television taping. Since that taping he hadn’t made it back to Alabama. He was off in the middle of nowhere.
“He needs to come back so we can talk,” I said as I paced around my living room talking to Jamie.
“Chill…” Jamie said. “He will be here whenever he gets here.”
“I want him here now! We have to talk about certain THINGS, if you know what I mean.”
“I know what you are talking about, yes. Did you ever take that test that you promised him you’d take?”
“Yeah, I did.”
“Well?”
“It came out positive.”
“Are you prepared to tell Teddy the truth?”
“I’m prepared to tell him, even though I don’t want to. I am too scared to tell him. He’s going to freak out when he hears. I mean, both of our moms have freaked out enough for the both of us combined.”
“You’ve already told his mom?”
“Yeah, I figured I’d tell her first. There were chances that Teddy would avoid telling his mom. She promised she wouldn’t tell him. I did tell her that it was okay if she told his dad though. Thankfully his dad wasn’t that upset about it. I thought he was going to be the worst, but he wasn’t.”
“I guess that’s pretty good news.”
“I guess,” I sighed as the doorbell sounded. “I bet that is Teddy.”
“This means I had better get going, I’m pretty sure. You can go answer the front door and I’ll sneak out the back. If he asks, just tell him I was already fixing to leave or something. Don’t make it seem like I was leaving just because you had to tell him something or whatever.”
“Right,” I somewhat laughed as Jamie got up and headed towards the back door.
-When It Comes-
“Let’s cut to the chase,” I said as I opened the door, grabbed Teddy’s hand, and pulled him inside the house. “We have to talk about something.”
“Alright then,” Teddy said as he followed me into the living room. “What is it that we must talk about now?”
“I am going to be having a baby…not just any ordinary baby…your baby.”
“I kind of had a feeling you were going to tell me this. I was hoping I wouldn’t hear this, but I knew that’s probably what it was going to be.”
“You don’t sound too excited or upset. What are you feeling right now?”
“I don’t really know what I’m feeling right now.”
“Well, what are you thinking right now?”
“I’m thinking about how much this is going to ruin my career. People are going to lose interest in me when they find this out…especially the girls.”
“I cannot believe you just said that Teddy! How could you?” I scoffed as I got up off of the couch and stormed up the stairs headed for my bedroom.
-When It Comes- -Teddy’s POV-
Kourtni had been in her room for a good five minutes. I’d try to get her to come out, but she wouldn’t…of course. I had no other choice but to pick up the phone and call her good friend Jamie. I would’ve called Alyssa, but we weren’t really on speaking terms again.
“Jamie’s advice hotline…how may I help you?” Jamie answered on her cell phone.
“How did you know I was calling for advice?” I replied in question to Jamie’s first statement.
“Um, let’s see. You normally don’t call me unless you and Kourt are having problems. Secondly, I’ve already talked to Kourtni. She filled me in on what happened. How could you say something like that to her when you knew it was going to hurt her feelings?”
“I didn’t mean to say it, honestly. I take it back. It was just one of those things that slipped off my tongue when it wasn’t supposed to.”
“Have you tried apologizing to her?”
“Yes, plenty of times. I’ve knocked on her door and told her I was sorry. I’ve even sent her text messages saying I was sorry. She wouldn’t answer me at her door and is apparently not reading my text messages.”
“She’s read them, or so she said. She just doesn’t feel like replying to them because she doesn’t think you’re being serious.”
“But I AM being serious! Can you please tell her that?”
“Why should I tell her?”
“Because she won’t listen to me! She won’t take me seriously, DUH! You are the one who told me she wouldn’t listen to me! What else am I supposed to do? She won’t talk or listen to anyone else but YOU right now. You’re the only person who can help get me out of this rut.”
“Why should I help you out? You just hurt my best friend’s feelings!”
“NEVER MIND,” I yelled as I hung up my phone.
-When It Comes-
I walked into the living room and saw Teddy was still seated on the couch. He was putting his phone back on the coffee table. He looked upset. I guessed that he had just finished talking to Jamie.
“Talk to Jamie I’m assuming?” I questioned as I sat in the recliner that was adjacent to the couch Teddy was sitting on.
“Yeah,” Teddy scoffed. “Sorry about what I said earlier. I want you to know that I really didn’t mean it. It just slipped out of my mouth. I didn’t mean to say it and am beyond sorry for hurting your feelings like I know I did.”
“I guess I can forgive you for it. I’d hate for us to go months without speaking to one another. That wouldn’t be good for us…”
“Or the little one,” Teddy sighed as he muted the TV channel.
“Nope…it definitely wouldn’t be good for him or her.”
“So, do you really forgive me or were you just feeling bad when you saw me upset like I was and still am?”
“I really forgive you. You being upset about the conversation with Jamie didn’t sway my decision at all.”
“Glad to know,” Teddy said as he bent over and kissed my forehead. “I’m going to head to my house for a little while. I’ll be back later.”
“Okay.”
“Love you.”
“You too!” I said as Teddy walked out of the living room.

Chapter 5
The next few hours between me and Teddy went well. We spent a few hours apart, but were now headed out to dinner. Teddy figured we’d better get all the good dinner dates in before it was too late. This time next year we wouldn’t be able to do this as much as we wanted.
“Have you been to the doctor since you found out that you were expecting?” Teddy questioned as we squeezed into the booth that the hostess had led us to.
“I went the day after…which was like your birthday,” I replied as the hostess put our menus down onto the table.
“Oh really, what’d the doctor say?”
“She said everything looked fine so far. She also told me that I was almost two and a half months along, which adds up to when it all happened. That means I’m now about three and a half months.”
“Yep, that sounds about right. I’m guessing she couldn’t tell what the baby was yet. It’s probably too early for her to know.”
“Yeah, it was too early. It’s the middle of October now, so I go back the last week of this month…around Halloween. I doubt she’ll be able to tell then either.”
“That’s cool. I will be happy with whatever, as long as he or she is healthy.”
“I am agreeing with you on that.”
“So, have you thought about any names yet?”
“OF COURSE I’ve thought about names,” I somewhat laughed as the waitress approached our table. “I’ll tell you later.”
“Alright then,” Teddy laughed as we proceeded to give the waitress our order.
-When It Comes-
Dinner had ended. Everything was great. Teddy and I enjoyed our time out together. We were just glad we were able to get out on a date before it was too late. In a few months we wouldn’t be able to do this anymore.
“Alright…let’s cover the names,” Teddy said as we walked back inside my house.
“For the girls there is Kaleigh Rachel, Landon Kate, and Sophia McKenzie. And for the boys there is Addison James, Landon James, Morgan Atwood or Theodore Atwood,” I simply replied as I threw myself onto the couch.
“Landon for a girl? That’s a little odd, never heard of it before.”
“I’m all about being different when it comes to baby names,” I simply replied as I grabbed the remote control and hit the power button.
“It is a cute name though, and different. I like it.”
“Me too,” I smiled as Teddy leaned over and kissed my cheek. “I love you so much, you know?”
“If I didn’t know that then we probably wouldn’t be in this situation together. Am I right or what?”
“I guess you are right.”
“Duh, I am always right. You should have figured that out by now.”
“I have always known that, ever since the day I met you. You always find a way to be right about EVERYTHING, no matter what it is. Let’s see if you can be right about the baby. What do you think it is going to be?”
“Um, I don’t really know. If I had to take a guess then I would say boy.” “Hm, that’s odd because I’m feeling girl.”
“I guess we shall see at your next doctor’s appointment. When is it by the way?”
“The doctor apparently called my mom’s office earlier today. I think she wants me to go in sometime tomorrow morning so she can do another ultrasound. Hopefully she’ll be able to tell then.”
“Hm, I hope so. Can I go with you? I’ve always wanted to go with you. I think it would be an interesting experience.”
“Of course you can come with me. You are only the father of this little boy or girl.”
“True,” Teddy laughed. “This time you are right. You beat me for once.”
“You knew this day was going to come. Let’s just hope you aren’t wrong tomorrow,” I laughed. “I am getting a little sleepy. I think it’s time for me to head up to bed. Care to join me?”
“I think I will. My day has been pretty exhausting as well. Flights always make me sleepy for some reason.”
“They tire me out too, don’t worry. Now…come on,” I said as I headed up the stairs.
-When It Comes-
I was in my bathroom putting on my pajamas while Teddy was out in my room supposedly pulling back the covers on my bed.
“I feel so fat in these,” I whined as I walked out of the bathroom and sat on my bed next to Teddy. “Do I look fat in these?” I said as I got up off of the bed and stood with my hands on my hips. “Well, do I?”
“No…not at all,” Teddy replied quickly. “You look pretty hot if I do say so myself. That little baby bump is adorable. It’s the perfect accessory for you.”
“Oh quit sucking up Ted! I know that’s all you are doing right now. You are not being honest with me, AT ALL.”
“Kourt, I’m being one hundred percent honest with you. I would never lie to you about anything like that. You don’t look fat! This is just what you have to go through when having a baby. It’ll all go away in a few months.”
“More like years,” I said in a grumpy voice as I got back onto my bed.
“You don’t know that, do you?”
“No,” I said as I started to frown. “WHY do you always have to be right? I hate it when you are always right! You know you could be nice and let me be right once in a while.”
“I’ve tried, but you’re never right…on most things. I bet you’ll be right about the baby though. Don’t you?”
“I don’t know. I don’t really care if I’m right about that, just as long as we have a healthy baby. And that should be your main concern too.”
“It is. That’s all I am asking for in this baby. I only want him or her to be the healthiest baby in the world.”
“Well then, I’m glad we agree on that manner. Now, about the names. We need to decide between the names that I mentioned earlier. What about the girl names? Which is your favorite?”
“My favorite for the girl is Landon Kate.”
“Okay, that was my favorite too. What about the boy? Which do you like best?”
“For the boy I like the name Morgan Atwood. It’s different, well…Atwood is.”
“Aw, yay…we agreed on the same names! I am so happy you like my favorite names. We don’t have to argue over it, which is really good.”
“Yeah, that’s very good because you know you’d win the arguments. Arguing is something you are beyond good at.”
“Yep, that is the truth and I’m not afraid to admit it. Sometimes I love arguing with people…especially you.”
“Oh ha, you are so funny! You must think you are so funny right now, don’t you?”
“Um, not really. I wasn’t trying to be funny Teddy.”
“Sureeeeeeeeeee you weren’t,” Teddy laughed.
“I wasn’t!” I laughed back as I lightly punched Teddy’s shoulder. “I love you, but I’m going to TRY and get to sleep now…good night hun!”
