"Wow. I'm totally digging the 'I-totally-got-no-sleep-last-night-look'." Tallie smiled at me as I walked up to my locker and let out a yawn the size of an elephant. "Is this because of what happened last night?"
"What about last night?" I asked curiously and she gave me a confused look. "I mean, which part."
"The part I don't know about?"
"So Ted leaves, right, and I go back to my room to get ready for bed and Shay is waiting on me and she's all like bouncing on my bed and like 'Omigod Teddy's so cute and we're going on a date'." I said mocking her high-pitched voice as I flailed my arms around.
"Taking flight anytime soon?" Teddy joked as he came up to us.
I smirked. "No, but I wish."
He gave Tallie an inquistive glance and she rolled her eyes and shrugged her shoulders. "So what are your plans for tonight Tedman?" She asked curiously and winked at me.
"Oh. Um.. I have a date." He stuttered and I could tell he was watching me out of the corner of his eye. "With Shayla, her cousin."
I shut my locker loudly and then turned to face them.
"Whoa, are you feeling ok?" Teddy asked and gave me a concerned look.
I smiled sarcastically. "Just fine."
"Wowee. Who is that fine piece of..." Tallie trailed off and I followed her gaze to another familiar face. "And why does he look at you like he knows you."
"Hey Bailey," He smiled and wrapped his arms around me. "I didn't get to see you last night 'cause Matt made me stay at the house. Said I had to go to bed because I had to get to school early." He said and made a goofy looking face.
"Tallie... This is Spencer. He's Matt's step-brother." I informed her.
"This is my best friend, Tallie," I smiled at her and then pointed at Teddy. "And that's Ted."
They greeted each other as we all made our way to homeroom. I could tell Tallie had tons of questions for me, but I didn't feel like answering them at the moment.
----------
"So you two were friends back in Colorado?" Tallie asked curiously.
"Well we were a little more than friends for a while," He admitted and I felt my cheeks getting warm. I had never told Tallie, or anyone that I had sort of had a relationship with someone.
"Oh really?" Tallie asked with a hint of shock in her voice. "Bailey Rae here never talks about Colorado... It's some sort of secret, I think."
I started feeling really nervous, because honestly, if people new my past they'd think I was a redneck loser destined for the trailer park. Not that I didn't have fun when I lived there... It just wasn't who I was anymore. Then they'd feel sorry for me when I told them about it... What happened... And that was the last thing I wanted, for someone to feel sorry for me... Again.
"Yeah. Why is that, Bai?" Spencer smiled and turned to me. He had always drug everything out of me, even when I hadn't wanted to talk.
"Yeah... why is that?" Teddy asked as he looked up at me.
I looked down at my hands. "I'm... I'm sorry guys. I just don't want to." I told them as I stood up and grabbed my bag. "You wouldn't like me if I told you."
"Bailey, don't go." Tallie said, trying to stop me. But I shook my head and made my way to somewhere quiet; The library sounded good to me.
----------
I sat in a comfy chair by the window so I could look out at the cloudly sky and watch the wind blow. I secretly wished I was out there in it with my camera so I could take a picture.
"It's a pretty picture, isn't it?" I heard Spencer's voice from behind me and turned to look at him.
He sat in the chair across from me and stared me down. "So you've made a new name for yourself here? The cheerleader following in her sister's footsteps? Or is it the cheerleader who is forced to do everything she doesn't want to because she's afraid of what her friends would think of her?"
I sighed. "I don't want people feeling sorry for me all the time anymore. I don't want them to think I was a complete redneck."
"Bailey, you were far from redneck." He laughed at me and leaned closer. "I've got a secret."
"What's that?" I smiled.
"You're probably the only girl from Colorado who's not a drunken mess right now. You're the only girl from Colorado worth knowing." He smiled. "And you're the only girl from Colorado who's always been beautiful."
I felt myself blush again and I looked down at my hands. "Thanks."
"So what do you say we rejoin our friends and then I take you out after school?" He asked curiously.
"Back the truck up, Big Ego," I laughed. "I have practice. And what makes you think I'm still willing to go on a date with you?"
"Because I'm very charming." He smiled and shook my head as I let out a laugh.
"I can't." I raised my hands in the air. "Sorry."
"Oh come on," He begged as we headed back to the cafeteria, and I kept turning him down.
"What are you two arguing about?" Tallie laughed.
"She won't go out with me."
"Oh really? In town for a day and already asking girls out?" Tallie laughed, but Teddy kept quiet.
He grinned, and I playfully punched him in the stomach. "What was that for?"
"I think you should go with him."
We all looked at Teddy, who had the most serious look on his face that I had ever seen him give. I knew Tallie would be the next person to say something. "Um.. yeah. Go."
I shook my head. "No. I have to study. Maybe some other time."
He nodded and held his hands in the air. "Last offer."
I shook my head. "I have to study. Big test in History tomorrow."
"Ok."
I looked at Teddy, who was looking down at the table again. The bell rang, and I knew that I wouldn't be able to talk to him for the rest of the day.
