Follow Up To ‘Wherever You Are’

Chapter 1

Nearly three months had passed since I had last seen or spoken to Teddy. I was starting to wonder if he was mad at me for still telling him a lie. It was kind of odd for him not to call and check up on me. Sure, we’ve sent a couple of emails…but that just isn’t the same.

“Kourtni…there’s someone here to see you,” my mom said as she poked her head in my bedroom door.

“It’s probably my teacher,” I sighed as I got up off of my bed.

You see, ever since I found out about this whole situation I haven’t gone back to school. My mom hired someone to be my teacher for the rest of the year. It was just going to be too much work if I went back to school.

“If your teacher is a boy…then yes,” my mom laughed as I waddled down the stairs.

As I waddled into the living room, I saw the back of Teddy’s head. He was sitting in my mom’s recliner playing with Deson. This was random of him to be here. It was even more random that he showed up on a day in which I had to go to the doctor.

“Hello,” I said as I put my hand on his shoulder. “It’s nice to see you after these three months.”

“It’s nice to see you too,” Teddy said as he got up and hugged me. “Aw, you look so cute. You have a little baby bump.”

“Cute…ha, right now I am far from cute. I don’t know if I will ever be cute again. You came back on the right day though.”

“What do you mean I came on the right day?”

“I have a doctor’s appointment today. My doctor is probably going to ask me if I want to know what the baby is or not. Do you want to go? You don’t have to if you don’t want to. It would be really nice if you went. My doctor has been asking about you a lot. She wants to meet you because she says you seem like a pretty nice guy.”

“I don’t mind going with you, that is if you really want me to go with you.”

“Of course I really want you to go with me. I mean, this little thing is ours in case you are forgetting.”

“I was just making sure. What time is your appointment?”

“It’s in about twenty minutes. I guess we had better be leaving now. We can take my car.”

“Alright…sounds fine with me,” Teddy said as we headed for the front door.

“So…would you two like to know what you are having?” the doctor asked me and Teddy as we all sat staring at the sonogram machine.

“What do you think?” I asked as I looked over at Teddy.

“It is totally up to you,” Teddy said as he held my hand.

“We would like to know what the baby is…yes,” I replied with a smile as I looked back at the machine.

“Alright,” the doctor said as she took a close look at the machine. “Congratulations…you are going to be having a little girl.”

“Amazing,” I sighed as I looked back at Teddy and smiled.

“I cannot believe it’s a little girl,” I exclaimed as Teddy and I walked into the mall. “What are we going to name her? Oh my gosh, I don’t know what to name her.”

“We have at least three more good months before we have to start worrying about that,” Teddy laughed as a girl ran up to him with a napkin and Sharpie in her hand.

“I know we have several months, but I like to plan ahead. You should know that. What do you think of the name Sophia?”

“I honestly don’t know. You choose a name and I will decide whether I like it or not. I’m leaving this name thing all up to you.”

“I was thinking Sophia McKenzie, Brooklyn Leigh, or Mikayla Grace. It is going to be between the three of those names. If you had to choose right now, which would be your choice?”

“If I had to pick a name right now, I would probably go with Sophia McKenzie. We could call her Sophie.”

“That is exactly what I was thinking. It is as if you just read my mind,” I replied with a smile as we walked into Carter’s.

“I am pretty good at that,” Teddy laughed.

“I did not know you could spend that much money on buying baby clothes,” Teddy said as we walked out of Carter’s.

“It isn’t as hard as you think it is,” I said as I looked bag at Teddy who was almost on the ground from all of the bags he was carrying. “Don’t you think you are taking this a little too far?”

“No, I’m not taking this a little too far. These bags are extremely heavy. You don’t realize how heavy they are because you aren’t carrying all ten of them.”

“I may not be carrying those bags right now, but I can guarantee you that I will be carrying more weight than that in the future,” I said as I pointed to my stomach.

“I know, but could you please just take like two of the bags? My arms are really starting to hurt. And, don’t call me a baby or something like that for not carrying all of the bags.”

“I won’t call you a baby or anything like that. I was just testing you out.”

“That was one test I know I really didn’t do good on.”

“Oh no, you did just fine. I would say you passed it. I honestly didn’t expect you to even make it this long. You’re a trooper.”

“Only because I heart you,” Teddy smiled.

“Aw…how cute. I heart you too.”

“It feels like we are in middle school all over again.”

“I know. Just think, back then we weren’t the best of friends and now look at us. I don’t think this would have ever happened if you and I were friends.”

“I wasn’t expecting this kind of thing to happen for several more years, but I’m just glad it’s with you and nobody else.”

“That was sweet of you,” I replied with a smile as Teddy and I approached my car. “It is as if you took the words right from my mouth. I’ve been thinking this for a while now.”

“It’s glad to know I am not the only one,” Teddy replied as he hit a button that popped the trunk of my car open.

“Thanks,” I said with a smile as I placed my two bags into the trunk.

Walking up the stairs towards my bedroom, I looked up and saw both mine and Teddy’s mom walking out of what was soon going to be the little one’s room. It was kind of puzzling to see them somewhat ‘sneak’ out of the room. It was also very obvious that they were up to something.

“What’s going on?” Teddy asked as we met our moms in the hallway.

“Oh…we were just organizing a couple of things we had ordered,” Teddy’s mom shrugged as we approached the bedroom.

“I am kind of worried to know what was truly happening in there,” I replied as I slowly began to open the bedroom door to Sophia’s room.

As I entered the bedroom, I noticed the room had changed a lot. There was a ton of new furniture in the room, and it all happened to be lavender…the color I wanted to paint the room.

“This is really nice,” Teddy replied as he dropped the bags and began to look around. “Hey, they even put a picture of us on this dresser. Isn’t that cool?”

“This is exactly what I wanted. My mom must have remembered when I said I wanted to paint the room lavender. This furniture is going to go perfect with the color of the paint,” I replied as I too started to gaze around the room.

“Now that I see all of this stuff, there’s something I got that I want to give to you now,” Teddy said as he walked towards the closet.

“What is it?”

“This,” Teddy said as he pulled a stroller with a matching car seat out of the closet.

“Aw, it’s really cute. I am sure it will get a lot of use eventually.”

-Love You Enough-

“So…what’s for supper?” I asked Teddy as I snuck up behind him in the kitchen.

“I have no idea,” Teddy laughed. “Were you thinking I was cooking something? I am the worst at cooking, believe me. The only thing I can cook is a frozen pizza. Other than that I cannot cook anything, unless you count microwaving something as cooking.”

“I was expecting you to cook, yes.”

“Well, I’m not going to be cooking. You wouldn’t want to touch anything I cooked.”

“If you aren’t cooking, then what are we eating for supper?”

“I have no idea what we were eating for supper. I was actually expecting you to come up with something for supper.”

“I think we were both wrong because I’m not feeling up to cooking anything.”

“Do you want to go out and pick something up?”

“I am glad you brought that up because I am actually having a craving for McDonald’s. Will you PLEASE take me?”

“If that is what you truly want, I will take you.”

“Yes, it’s what I really want.”

“Are you positive?”

“Yes! I want to go get something to eat at McDonald’s.”

“Who is the…” Teddy started to say but stopped when I put my hand across his mouth.

“Don’t even finish asking the question. The answer is…well, it’s you. If you didn’t know that by now then you were stupid.”

“Of course I knew the answer to that question. I was just trying to see if you would fall for it.”

“That joke is so old Teddy. I’m practically the one who invented it.”

“Right…” Teddy laughed as he kissed me on the cheek.

“Thanks again for taking me to get something to eat. It was very nice of you,” I said to Teddy as we walked inside my bedroom. “I hate to say it, but you are the worst at going through the Play Place. I did better than you, and look at me!”

“Hey, I did my best. I couldn’t help that some little kid was trying to beat me up. I couldn’t sit there and fight back. It wouldn’t be nice of me,” Teddy laughed as I threw my purse onto my bed.

“You did the right thing, but still lost.”

“Let’s hope Sophie doesn’t take after me when it comes to going through the Play Place.”

“I know,” I laughed as we sat down on my bed.
