"And I don't see how you could ever be anything but mine..." -- Kenny Chesney 'Anything But Mine'

The next day, Becca slept straight through breakfast, as well as her parents and siblings leaving for the mall. They had decided to brave the massive crowds of people for those after Thanksgiving sales, which wasn't exactly what Becca called a good time. She was glad she over slept. She wasn't much of a crowd person.
She had just finished putting the last curl in her hair when there was a knock on the door. She ran down the stairs to see who it was.
"Hey," she said awkwardly as she faced Teddy, who was clad in toboggan and scarf. It was still awkward between the two of them, despite the snow war that had taken place in her front yard.
"Hey yourself, sunshine. Word is you slept right through hurricane Mercer," he referred to the massive amount of noise her family had to have made as they got ready at four in the moring.
"Eh, its a learned ability. Austen talks in his sleep, so I've learned to tune that out, as well as the neighbors who like their loud rap music at two in the morning," she laughed awkwardly. "You want to come in?"
He shrugged as he stepped through the door and began taking his coat off. "Actually, I want to go for ice cream," he told her as he began to button his coat.
"Really?"
He nodded, "Come on."
She grabbed her coat and a purple striped scarf and threw them on as the two of them headed out the door.

They sat, awkwardly silent at a table in Cold Stone Creamery, eating their favorite flavors.
She stabbed her ice cream with her s.thingy and looked up at him. "So... Blue Eyes?"
"You were there?" He asked, referring to the last gig he played. She nodded. "Austen too?"
She nodded again.
"Sorry, I really didn't think you'd be there. The bar scene doesn't seem like your thing."
"My friend Laynie works there. Plus, I don't drink, I just go for Laynie and the music." She confessed. "And Austen, he likes the music too. He's actually performed there before."
"Ahhh, what is it with you and musicians?" He laughed and she stuck her tongue out at him.
"I performed too. His band backed me up on a couple songs." She told him.
"Oh really? Little Becca's gonna be a big star some day," he joked and she rolled her eyes.
"Not hardly. I've had my fill of all things Hollywood." She laughed and he nodded as he kept looking at her. He looked as if he would say something, but suddenly laughed awkwardly and shook his head before returning to his ice cream.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket and she pulled it out to see who it was. "Hey sweetie," Teddy noticed she smiled as she talked to Austen, and it made him feel a twinge of jealousy in the pit of his stomach. "Oh I'm sorry. When is the funeral? Oh, ok. I'll see you when I get back then. Love you too."
She sat her phone on the counter, took a bite of ice cream, then looked at Teddy. "I take it things aren't so good?"
She shook her head. "He died. They're not having a funeral though. Just cremation."
"Oh." He still held those jealous feelings, and Becca noticed them in his voice.
"So, it looks like the snow is melting," she changed the subject as she looked out the window at the patchy ground.
He nodded. "Yeah it does. But its still cloudy... And freezing. Maybe we'll get some more."
She nodded as she finished her dessert and threw away the cup. "So how come you never called me back?"
"You were so angry, and I just figured I would follow your wishes. At first, I thought you would call me back, but then after the first week, I knew I wasn't going to hear from you anytime soon." He told her and shrugged. "Plus I couldn't get over my silly pride and apologize for bugging the hell out of you and being such a... Wimp."
"Wimp is a little strong, don't you think?"
He shook his head. "No, wimp is just right. I guess, I thought that you would just... get over me like you did Tim and Chase and then I would be just Teddy, you're friend. Of course, there's nothing wrong with being your friend, I'd rather be that than nothing at all, but after having a relationship with someone that you care about so much, its hard to see you as anything but mine."
She wondered if he knew he said you instead of them. His cheeks were red. "I take it you practiced that one for a while?"
He laughed. "Well, I had it all planned out for when you eventually called."
She felt bad about never calling him, but she knew if she did, she wouldn't have a chance with Austen, and she honestly loved him just as much as she loved Teddy.
He shook his head and took a deep breath. "Anyway... You ready to go?"
She smiled and nodded. "Yeah. I'm thinking about hitting up the mall now. I have a few Christmas presents I need to buy."
He smiled and laughed. "Ok. I think we can still find our families running around in there somewhere."
She laughed as the two of them headed to his SUV and made their way towards the chaos of the mall.
