Chapter 12
It had been two months since I had decided to move in with Teddy, and I was just now getting settled into the apartment Teddy and I were now sharing. By the looks of the place, you would think I had just gotten here the day before, but that wasn’t the case. I had been here for a good month and still wasn’t completely moved in.
“Man…I never realized how much crap I had until now,” I said as I unpacked some of my clothes and put them into my new dresser. “And you…you’re already finished with your unpacking,” I said as I pointed back at Teddy who was giving Landon her bottle.
“I’m sorry,” Teddy said with a laugh.
“It isn’t funny Ted. I’m sick and tired of packing. I am beyond cranky at this point. I’ve been up since six this morning with our daughter, and you’re just now rolling out of bed…FIVE HOURS LATER.”
“If you needed my help, you should’ve woken me up. It isn’t that hard.”
“Don’t even pull that excuse out of the hat Ted. We all know you get super cranky when you don’t get your full however many hours of sleep.”
“I’m not like that all the time…am I?” Teddy questioned.
“Sometimes you are…yes.”
“Oh, really? I’m sorry about that then.”
“It’s okay…I guess. Now if you could get her down for a nap, that would be great because then you could come help me unpack.”
“Sure thing,” Teddy said as he walked out of our room and headed towards the living room so he could sit in the recliner and rock Landon to sleep.
-When It Comes-
Thirty minutes had passed, and Teddy still hadn’t come back to our bedroom to help me with my unpacking. I was starting to worry about him and Landon, so I walked into the living room and found both of them asleep on the couch. It was the cutest thing I had ever seen, Landon laying sound asleep on Teddy’s chest. I wanted to take a picture, but didn’t feel like waking them up. I decided to go outside for a breath of fresh air and call Jamie and Alyssa to see how they were each doing.
“Hello,” Jamie answered after about the third ring.
“HI!” I said excitedly.
“Kourtni, how are you? It has been what, two months now? I still cannot believe you are living in New York now. That’s crazy.”
“Yeah, it’s a little crazy. I’ve been here for a month and am still not finished unpacking, while Teddy got finished like two weeks ago. But anyways, how are you? Is there any news on the baby yet?”
“We found out a week ago that we were having a little boy, and I’m about seven months along. Are you and Ted going to be able to fly down here when the little one is born?”
“I hate to say it, but I don’t think we will be able to make it. We’re still trying to get adjusted to the new place. I really wish we could, but I just don’t think we will be able to. BUT you have to promise that you or Drake or someone will call us soon after he is born and let us know his name and that kind of thing, okay?”
“Will do,” Jamie replied.
“I had better be going. I’m going to call Alyssa then go back inside and make sure Landon hasn’t fallen off of Teddy’s chest…since the two of them took a snooze break while I was unpacking.”
“Aw, haha,” Jamie laughed. “I will let you go then. It was good talking to you!”
“Same here…bye,” I said.
“Bye!” Jamie said as she hung up her phone.
-When It Comes-
After talking with Jamie, I took a minute to catch a breath of air before calling and talking to Alyssa. Before I could dial her number, my phone was ringing.
“Hello,” I answered.
“HI!” Alyssa said on the other end.
“I was just fixing to call you. How are you?”
“I am doing just GREAT. And what about you, how is life in New York?”
“You seem really excited. Let me guess, you just talked to Tyler? And life in New York is something to get used to.”
“Yep, I just talked to Tyler.”
“Is there something you have to tell me?” I asked with a laugh.
“Tyler and I decided to move in together. I’m moving out to California in like two weeks!”
“Really, that is so awesome Alyssa. I’m happy for you. It’s about time something exciting happened with the two of you.”
“I know. Our relationship was on the verge of being called boring, but Tyler has once again made it super exciting. It just sucks because after I move Jamie’s going to be the only one left in Alabama. Everyone is moving away. It’s almost like AJK is breaking up.”
“I wouldn’t say we were breaking up, just growing up and moving forward with our life. And I’m sure Jamie and Drake will end up moving in together whenever they get married and have the baby.”
“Maybe,” Alyssa sighed on her end of the phone.
“I hate to cut the conversation short, but I need to be getting back inside to check on Teddy and Landon. They took a snooze break on the couch.”
“Alright…I will talk to you later. Bye.”
“Bye,” I said as I hung up my phone.
-When It Comes-
I walked back into my apartment and found Teddy and Landon had now woken up from their short cat nap. The two were now on the floor. It appeared like Teddy was trying to teach Landon how to crawl.
“Aw…is Mr. Teddy trying to teach his little girl how to crawl?” I said as I sat on the floor next to where Teddy was stretching out at.
“Trying is the key word here,” Teddy replied. “I don’t think Landon is listening to me quite yet. She will get there though.”
“It’s so funny to see you crawl. I wish I had my camera unpacked so I could get pictures of this. Ten years from now you’re going to laugh at yourself,” I said with a laugh as someone knocked on the door.
“I think I know who that is.”
“And who do you think it is?” I asked as I headed towards the door.
“It is my mom. She said she was going to come by and get Landon for the day. She wants to show her off to her friends.”
I opened the door to our apartment and sure enough found Teddy’s mom on the other side of the door.
“Hi,” I said as I hugged his mom.
“It’s nice to see you again. Now…let me see that ring that my son got you. He wouldn’t let me see it when he bought it. I wasn’t allowed to go with him,” his mom replied.
“This is it,” I said as I held up my hand and let her look at the ring.
“That is gorgeous. Now, where’s my little granddaughter at?”
“She is on the floor with her father, who is trying to give her crawling lessons.”
“Aw,” she said with a laugh as she entered the living room and saw Teddy and Landon sitting on the floor trying to crawl.
“Hey mom,” he said as he continued to stretch out on the floor. “Landon’s things are on the couch if you want to grab them. I’ll get up off of the floor and hand her over to you.”
“Okay son.”
“Here you are,” Teddy said as he handed Landon over to his mom.
“Thank you very much. I will bring her back to you later tonight.”
“Bye mom,” Teddy said as he put his arm around my waist and watched his mom walk out of the apartment, shutting the door behind her. “Finally we get some time to ourselves.”
-When It Comes-
“I’m sorry your training lesson with Landon didn’t work out. It was still so cute to see the two of you crawling around like that. Ten years from now you will be laughing about it,” I said as I once again sat in mine and Teddy’s bedroom unpacking the last of my clothes and accessories. “Thank goodness I’m almost done with this.”
“Ten years from now I won’t be laughing about it because I’ll probably be doing it again,” Teddy said as he shot me a funny look.
“I don’t like that look Ted. It scares me a little bit.”
“It shouldn’t scare you at all. I was just being honest. I’ll only be like twenty nine or so. And you told me you wanted five kids so I figured that I would be in the same place in ten years.”
“You don’t KNOW that you will be there in ten years,” I said as I got up off of the floor and went to stand next to Teddy.
“Are you saying you would divorce me or something?”
“Nope, I don’t think I could ever do that,” I said as I gave Teddy a kiss. “We should really start planning this wedding Ted.”
“What about getting married on Valentine’s Day next year, 2008?”
“That sounds like a good date to me. It won’t be too cold but it won’t be too hot. The only thing is it’s in like four months. Could we really get a wedding planned in that short amount of time?”
“You don’t know it, but I’ve already got the location and everything. I’ve got people to do the catering and everything. I planned ahead of time.”
“Well, aren’t you the surprising one? Where is it going to be then?”
“It’s going to be at your old church back in Alabama.”
“REALLY?” I said excitedly. “That is so awesome. I love you so much,” I said as I kissed Teddy again.
“Yep, I’m being serious. And I have the entertainment all lined up as well.”
“Who is it going to be?”
“Drake.”
“That is so awesome. I’m glad you did all of this. That lifts a little weight off of my shoulders. Now all I have to do is get my dress, flowers, shoes, bridesmaids, and bridesmaids’ gowns.”
“And I have to get my tux, groomsmen, and groomsmen’s tuxedos.”
“You have an easy job,” I laughed.
“I bet your job won’t be as hard as you think it’s going to be.”
“We will see about that,” I laughed. “I think I may have a dress already picked out, but I don’t know. I haven’t decided yet.”
“Well, don’t tell me about it now. That will ruin the wedding day.”
“I wasn’t going to tell you, silly. I’m not that stupid.”
“I never said you were,” Teddy laughed.
“I cannot believe I’m marrying you. Just think, two years ago I never knew about you. Well, I knew about you but didn’t really care for your music. Two years later, I’ve had your child and am your fiancée. Doesn’t it seem a little weird to you?”
“It seems a little weird, but ever since I met you I knew that I was going to marry you.”
“Did you really feel like that?”
“Yep, I sure did.”
“That’s awesome because I did too.”
“I love you,” Teddy said as he kissed my forehead. “How about we take a short nap? I know you are really tired.”
“Sure,” I shrugged as I walked over to our bed.
