Chapter 3
It was six thirty in the morning, and I was already up making breakfast in the kitchen. If it weren’t for my stomach, I probably could’ve been sleeping still. Teddy had better like resting while he can. In a matter of months he’d never be the same again.
“Something smells good,” Teddy said as he began to drag himself into the kitchen. “How long have you been up?”
“Oh…about an hour,” I replied as I put my hand on my stomach. “My stomach started bothering me and I got up. I couldn’t get to sleep after that so I just came down here and started breakfast. I had to get an early start anyways. Kaylie and I have plans.”
“Oh really? What are you two doing today?”
“We are going shopping for clothes and stuff.”
“I think you have plenty of clothes.”
“They aren’t for me or for you. The clothes are going to be for the baby…duh. Please don’t tell me you forgot about him already.”
“No, I haven’t forgotten about him…and I won’t ever forget about him. I just didn’t expect you to go shopping for his stuff this soon.”
“Well, we need to start now since you’ll probably have to go off touring again soon. You should probably come with us so we can look at cribs and that kind of thing for his room.”
“We are going to need two of everything…aren’t we?”
“I didn’t think we were making him a room at your house. I thought we were just going to keep him here.”
“I think we need to have him one at my house in case he stays with my mom one night or something. Besides, when I’m home you may decide to come stay at my house or something.”
“Do you realize how much that’s going to cost us? I hope you know I don’t have that much money in my bank account.”
“Well, I’ve got plenty of money…and I have a few friends that are going to give us some money as well.”
“Who would that be?”
“I’m not going to reveal these friends right now. You’ll get to find out eventually.”
“Alright…I’ll take your word for it.”
-Just So You Know-
After breakfast, Teddy and I each took turns hogging up the bathroom space. We were now headed down to the mall to meet up with Kaylie to do some shopping for the baby.
“I know it’s a good three months, maybe even longer, before the baby gets here and all…but I was just thinking about things. Have you thought of any godparents yet?” Teddy asked as we pulled into the mall parking lot.
“No…I haven’t really given it any thought. Why are you asking? Have you thought about it or something?” I asked as the two of us began to get out of my car and walk towards the front of the mall.
“I have thought about a few possibilities, yes.”
“Could you share the possibilities with me then?”
“As far as a godmother goes, I had thought about Kaylie. Then Jesse said he’d like to be the godfather, that is if we wanted him to be in return or whatever.”
“Jesse?”
“I’m talking about Jesse McCartney, yes.”
“But…I don’t even know him.”
“I know, but he’s a good friend and said it would be pretty cool.”
“I say he’s got the job and so does Kaylie. There is no way I could leave my best friend out of this deal. Let’s just try not to have them in the same room at once. Kaylie might get a little crazy.”
“We’ll try to keep that from happening,” Teddy laughed as he held the door open for me.
“Thank you,” I said with a smile as I walked into the mall.
-Just So You Know-
Minutes had passed, and Teddy decided to ditch me for a while. He was heading to the music store to look at guitars and who knows what else. I was in one of the baby clothing stores waiting on Kaylie to show up.
“Kourtni…you’ve got to come quick,” Kaylie said as she ran into the store.
“What is it Kaylie?” I asked as Kaylie grabbed my hand and began to drag me out of the store.
“Someone passed out up by the music store and they are taking them off in an ambulance. I heard people shouting Teddy’s name so I ran back here to find you. We need to hurry up there in case it is him. You’ll need to ride in the back.”
“I cannot run though,” I said as I started to walk as fast as I could. “I’m doing my best to get there as quick as possible.”
“When I passed by the store the EMTs were just getting inside with the little rolling thingy and stretcher.”
“Maybe we will get up there before they ride off with him in the back.”
-Just So You Know-
After about a two minute walk, Kaylie and I were at the front of the mall as we watched the EMTs get ready to load the person on the stretcher into the back of the ambulance. Sure enough, the person on the stretcher was Teddy. The poor guy hadn’t gotten much rest since he’d been home. He must have been stressed out about something.
“Oh Teddy…” I said as I tried to push through the crowd.
“Excuse me ma’am,” an EMT, whose name was Eric, said to me as he stopped me. “You cannot go past this line unless you know this man.”
“I’m his girlfriend…and I’m carrying his child. If you don’t let me in the back of that ambulance, I’m going to hurt someone…probably you!”
“We need some information on the guy first.”
“His name is John Theodore Geiger II, and he was born on September 16, 1988. He will be eighteen in about four months. Is there anything else you nosy people need to know?”
“Yeah…what size shoe does he wear?”
“Heck if I know! LET ME IN THERE…NOW! I’m five months pregnant, don’t make me too upset or I promise I’m going to hit you.”
“If you hit me then you’ll be sent to jail.”
“Let me in that ambulance then! I’ve told you the basic information on him.”
“Geez lady,” the man said as he stepped aside and helped me get into the back of the ambulance.
It was about time that man came around. I was seriously about to hurt him if he hadn’t let me back here.
“Hang tight,” another EMT said as the doors were shut and seconds later the ambulance started to move.
-Just So You Know-
I was sitting out in the waiting room while the doctors ran tests to see why Teddy fainted earlier at the mall. Kaylie had been sitting with me for a few minutes, but got a call from her mom and had to leave to run some errands.
“Miss…you may come back and see him now,” a nurse said as she came and stood in front of me.
“Thanks,” I said as I stood up and began to follow behind the lady.
We approached the draped off area where Teddy’s bed was apparently at. The nurse pushed the curtains back and then stepped away so I could walk over to his bedside and talk to him.
“Hey,” Teddy said in a low whisper as I stood next to his bed.
“Hey,” I replied with a small smile as I took Teddy’s hand. “How are you feeling?”
“I could always be better. But…I’m good since I get to see you now. Man, this place is weird. I don’t like hospitals.”
“Me either.”
“I shouldn’t have ditched you. I’m sorry.”
“We may have still ended up here, but don’t worry about anything. Everything is going to be okay.”
“Did you get anything for the baby?”
“I didn’t have time to get anything, but it is okay. I can go online and order most of the stuff.”
“We have some good news Mr. Geiger,” a tall man dressed in white said as he walked into Teddy’s somewhat small room.
“I’m listening,” Teddy said as he shut his eyes.
“You are free to leave the hospital for now. The tests came back and showed that you either had some kind of stress attack. A word of advice…you should really lay off the touring for a couple of weeks before something more serious happens. Rest is well needed right now.”
“Yes sir,” Teddy said as he attempted to not his head.
“We’ll send some nurses in to get you unhooked and ready to go.”
“Thanks doc,” Teddy said as the doctor headed out to talk to some nurses.
-Just So You Know-
“You don’t know how good it feels to be at home…well, at your house,” Teddy replied as he threw himself onto the living room couch.
“I can drive you down to your house if you want me to. It won’t be any trouble at all,” I said as I sat down next to Teddy.
“No. I’ve made you run around enough today. You probably shouldn’t be on your feet for that long.”
“My feet are swelling a little, but it’s okay. It was worth it. I couldn’t stand seeing you in that hospital bed though. You don’t know how much that pained me. For a minute, I thought it was going to be days before you got out of that place.”
“Let’s just hope I don’t have to go back until the baby’s born.”
“I hope we don’t have to go back until then either. Hospitals just freak me out. I don’t like going there unless I’m seriously sick or…well, having a baby.”
“You aren’t the only one who is freaked out by them. I just hate being hooked up to like thirty different machines.”
“You haven’t seen someone hooked up to as many machines as I will be when I have the baby. I’m going to be in tears because of it, more than likely. You had better be there!”
“You know I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”
“But if you take a lot of time off now, won’t you have to do a lot of shows right before the baby’s born?”
“No, well…I don’t know. When’s the actual due date?”
“The actual due date is the fourteenth of September, two days before your birthday. They should let you off the week of your birthday…right?”
“I would hope so, but I’m not so sure. I’ll have to talk to my mom and let her talk to whoever needs to be talked to so we can make sure I’m here when the baby is born.”
“Okay.”
“For now…I’m going to take me a nap. I’ve got to follow doctor’s orders. He said I should rest and I’m going to,” Teddy said as he closed his eyes.
“Well, I’ll be upstairs,” I said as I headed for the stairs and continued to look back at Teddy who was trying to sleep.
